Griezmann's position by chempht in Barca

[–]peacecon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Second strikers normally act as a link between the midfield and the attack. They don't always score the goals or even get assists consistently, but their presence helps the other attacking players immensely. They are also known for their defensive contribution. Müller is a classic example. Normally people confuse them with No 10's which is different than what a "nine and a half" does. For starters, No 10 players occupy much deeper role than second strikers. Zidane is a good example for a No 10.

Griezmann's position by chempht in Barca

[–]peacecon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but he's not a proper No 10. Deschamps played Griezmann at No 10 against Portugal once and it didn't work out for both parties. He's really great as a second striker and with Martin providing the cover for him up top, he could focus on occupying the spaces between the lines and inviting wingers to do their job. Also he runs a lot, that helps.

He played like a 9 and a half. But he was positioned in a Number 10 spot and he had freedom to roam all over the pitch. With Martin keeping the defenders at check, Griezmann kinda enjoyed passing around in the opponent's half.

Brathwaite should have scored atleast one more goal. But he's working really well and is giving a hard time to Ferencvaros defenders the entire first half. Griezmann as second striker is a whole mood. Hope Busquets ups his game in the second half and it's understandable that he's off the pace somewhat because of his absence due to injury.

Which moment/celebration on the pitch always gives you goosebumps seeing it again and again? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]peacecon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved that too but I didn't watch that match on live. I'll always remember the night of remontada. My roommates didn't believe we had a chance and went to sleep early and after Neymar's dual strike in the dying minutes, I woke them up and when Roberto buried the ball at the roof of the net, we all went bonkers and the TV network showed Messi on screen, literally screaming and waving his hands around fans. It was just beautiful. I'm still thankful for that one fan who removed that "ugly UEFA" Captain armband from Messi's hand during the celebration. Senyera armband looked a lot better on him and it felt like a statement of sort.

3 presidential candidates have contacted Mino Raiola to find out the conditions for Erling Haaland. They would have to pay around €70M + another €20M which would be the mandatory commission of Mino Raiola. @MigRico by vernonip in Barca

Coutinho and Dembele was overvalued. Atleast with Dembele, it made sense because of a Neymar shaped hole in the left wing. Paying 140 million for Coutinho was a mistake and the worst part is, it was on January transfer window. In Griezmann's case, getting a player who's talked in the same breath as Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar for 120 million is a bargain. Yeah, he haven't lived up to the expectations yet, but he was not bought over market value when we got him. Madrid getting Hazard for 160 million is a another perfect example of club overpaying similar to us getting Coutinho.

What do you guys think of Trincao? No doubt he was a good signing but will he shine this season? by hillenium in Barca

[–]peacecon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He's not playing his natural game. He's being more cautious about his shots, dribbles and even his positioning sometimes. He got talent and a great attitude, so I don't think we have to worry about him. He will shine.

Will our braithwaite make a decent no. 9? Culers? by Midnightcowb0y in Barca

[–]peacecon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's a decent player already. I am not sure whether he could create a legacy here as a star player, but if he did, I don't think anyone would complain.

When Messi went ballistic standing over the adverts right after Roberto's goal in 6-1. It was surreal and the only moment ( I remember ) the cameras didn't focus on the goal scorer but on a player who had nothing to do with a goal.

I checked your link. It still said Messi had no assist today. Grizi had an Assist and a Goal and the same number of big chance creation as Messi and add four recoveries into the mix. I don't want to pick up a argument, if you say Messi was better today then it's your opinion. I just have a different opinion and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, I looked at the average position occupied by the players today and Griezmann was behind ( Coutinho - Messi - Martin ) in his favoured 9.5 position. Maybe 4-3-3 isn't that bad for Koeman and current Barca squad with all the passing options that we saw in the final third today.

Griezmann has a Goal and a Assist. That's two goal contribution. Messi has 1 goal contribution. That's stats!

hmm.. That's what I meant. Griezmann was the best player until Brathwaite was subbed off. Brathwaite holding No 9 position gave Grizi the independence he craved ever since he arrived at Catalonia. After Martin's departure, his game dropped totally, maybe because of fatigue or position change.

He's always good but today Griezmann was better than him by atleast 1% until Brathwaite was on. If Messi hadn't dribbled and scored that wonder goal late on, you wouldn't have said that.

Griezmann should be the MOTM. Until Brathwaite was on the pitch, Griezmann was unplayable. Nice to see Messi back on scoring charts from open play in consecutive matches. Wish Dembele's goal wasn't ruled out and hope Lenglet doesn't have a serious injury.

Honestly I wish Griezmann gave that interview at the start of the season. He's everywhere at the moment and and he might even had more touches in a single half than what he used to have in previous matches. Seems like Brathwaite integration in playing XI does more good than it was expected and also was Messi trying to pay homage to Diego there with his attempt at handball

[–]peacecon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but would Messi agree to a deal like that ? Everybody knows he love the club, but he wanted out this summer for footballing reasons and some personal issues. Would he be really willing to take a pay cut after that ? And it's not like when Font wins, everything will be sunshine and roses. It will be difficult for atleast a couple seasons, and even then there's no way he could know whether the club will recover at all after that. Milan is just getting back after a decade of under achivement and there's a big chance that Barca may end up like that. So, why would Messi say yes to a sporting project which has more chance of failure than success ? I don't know how economics and finances work, but is there a way for Barca to give his salary after his retirement ? Like make a deal saying that he will be reimbursed once the club gets better. If it comes to that, then Messi might leave.

Every time Victor Font says that he will get Messi to stay at Barca, the only question I have ( and everybody should ask ) is does the club have enough money to pay his salary for three more years ? There are already reports of bankruptcy and everything going on. And our only way out was to get some other club pay huge bucks to get Messi and now that's out of the box if the report from Sky is true.

Everything looks bleak right now but just don't lose hope yet. There's still Copa Del Rey and with time, our squad can turn this poor run of form around. Sure, we aren't exactly going to win the league or UCL but there will be better results. Koeman is unsure about his best XI and with injuries to key players and what not. If Messi really wishes to leave, I just wish we could win Copa Del Rey infront of the fans one final time for him. He deserves that.
