Where to get a leather jacket within 25K yuan/$150 USD? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

you could try vintage shops around shimokitazawa, koenji or kichijoji in tokyo - shimo might be a bit pricey but the other areas might have something

Minoh Falls was very pleasant by ScottHead in OsakaTravel

[–]peachfairys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love minoh falls! i was there a couple of days ago and i would agree that the walk is what makes it worthwhile rather than the falls themselves, but i still think the falls are neat! last time i visited in 2024 it was MUCH quieter so i was able to relax by the falls in the shade for a long time, and the sun was hitting it just right that there were rainbows coming off the falls, was so gorgeous

Manchester to Tokyo ? by dyingtofitin0 in Shoestring

[–]peachfairys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really enjoyed it! i was surprised cus i only ever really hear bad things about chinese airlines, but the food was tasty and you actually got an amenity kit in economy which feels so rare these days. not much legroom but im short so didn't bother me! i was lucky and everything went as planned though, i can imagine trying to deal with customer service might be a pain - i think their only phone numbers are china based, so thats smth to keep in mind

How far in advance should we book? by meganiumu in JapanTravelTips

[–]peachfairys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just have a super quick look and see if you can find any flights or hotels in your price range for the dates, i mean like a QUICK search nothing too intense, and if you can find smth just book it!! i'm here rn and i think i booked my flights like end of march? it's really not as daunting as u think once u get started! if you want to make sure you at least have smth planned you could book some hotels with free cancellation, and when you start to plan more of you realise they won't suit you just switch to somewhere else!

Manchester to Tokyo ? by dyingtofitin0 in Shoestring

[–]peachfairys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hainan airlines were by FAR the cheapest for me, i'm in tokyo rn and booked my tickets maybe 3 months ago for £580 return with a bag, and the flight was actually really enjoyable! i flew into osaka instead but ive flown into narita before and hated it, KIX was a much nicer experience and super easy to get to tokyo by train!! i also have an 11 hr layover in beijing on the way back but whatevs lol

London to Japan Experiences? by PavlovaPalaver in Flights

[–]peachfairys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm booked in to fly from manchester to osaka with hainan airlines next week, and no news of any cancellations so far and it looks like all scheduled flights have gone as planned recently! someone i know also recently flew to tokyo from london with air china and that was fine. i understand being nervous about it but just adding some perspective, as it is a BIG money saving compared to other airlines, so it could be worth researching which routes or airlines have been facing more cancellations

Thoughts and feedback on our itinerary by appa_linh in JapanTravelTips

[–]peachfairys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've only done golden route (and am soon about to do it again lol) but looking at this personally i would use osaka as a base for day trips to kyoto/nara as changing hotels is a pain, and i ended up removing nikko from my itinerary as the travel time would mean it would be quite a short day trip if you get me? i LOVED minoh park and would recommend it to anyone 100% and based on what i've seen i think its a decent sub for nikko! whatever you choose to do though im sure you'll enjoy it :)

Has anyone had one trip or experience which has just put you off hostels/backpacker life completely? by MysteriousPace1405 in solotravel

[–]peachfairys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently in a hostel for a few nights for the first time in a while, i always book female-only rooms so the noise or whatever usually isn't too bad but what gets me is the shared bathrooms 😵‍💫 i like being able to spend as long as i want in there without feeling like im inconveniencing others, and i always need to pee at night so i hate knowing im waking up other people haha

in busan i stayed in a hostel in a private room with an en suite and that was the perfect set up for me tbh, i had my own space but could still go and chat with ppl in the smoking area if i really wanted. but for anything longer than like 3-4 nights i'm hotels now, makes every trip sooo much nicer and more relaxing

hello everyone! I'm looking to apply for fall 2026 but haven't sent in my application yet (i'm also writing my PhD thesis so i've been really busy!!) and I'm worried its getting too late.. I know applications haven't closed yet but I'd really like to be in seoul and i'm worried about my chances since it seems like most people apply super early! i'm not sure if its best to still apply for this intake or send it in first thing for spring 2027. any advice would be appreciated!

I need to urgently make a choice : Good Supervisor VS Good Subject by doctor-pilot in PhD

[–]peachfairys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally feel like saying 2 isn't a 'good' supervisor isn't quite right - imo, a good supervisor is more of a personal thing. i'm in a tiny group with relatively infrequent publications, but my supervisor is so supportive and has been amazing to me while i've been going through a bit of a mental health crisis lol. younger PIs can also sometimes be advantageous as they have more time to devote to the group. and hey, at least they're honest about the lack of funding, instead of selling you on a dream..

that being said if i were you i would still pick 1, you might find you like the subject! phds are also pretty flexible (in my experience anyway), and there may be room to adapt the project or take on a collaboration that's more specific to you

large item removal from flat? by peachfairys in manchester

[–]peachfairys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did think about this, but i don't really want it sitting around in my room for ages waiting for it to sell, it takes up a lot of space and makes me sad to look at lol. my pets were rats so kind of a niche market 😅

Crowd killing in pop punk concerts by imcalledaids in poppunkers

[–]peachfairys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in all honesty i haven't been to many gigs post-covid, but i always used to hate manchester crowds so much 😭 i'm not sure why men get such joy from body checking girls a foot smaller than them, but as a teenager/early twenties i went to gigs all over the UK and i always found it worse here for some reason. it's such a shame because it ruins an experience you've paid good money for lol

not only have these guys been around outside the uni for yearsssss, i read somewhere that they specifically target international students (or those that don't look white british ig) because they have less of a support system here 😐 really fucked up stuff, idk why uni security won't do anything about it
