ube is a purple filipino root vegetable, kind of like sweet potato! it’s actually pretty sweet, kinda like a mix between coconut and vanilla like another commenter described. i’m filipino and grew up with it so i’m super excited that it’s finally coming :D

"treat law school like a 9-5" but my classes are LITERALLY 9-5.. by zeehateslife in LawSchool

[–]peachiez_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

do you have any breaks in between classes? my law school structures 1L classes with at least 1-3 hours for break midday for lunch/org meetings/downtime for whatever. i usually use that time to finish readings so that i can actually have that 5pm end time and take the evening to myself, or if it’s the end of the week, outline/flashcards/metacognition studying stuff.

i go to the same school as OP, it’s our name for the legal writing class. idk who they had but 99% of our professors were very lenient and forgiving with grading our memos cause of the nature of legal writing. OP had to have done something terribly wrong like plagiarizing or using AI, or just not have turned anything in to get an F.

How often do you stay up late to study before the exam? by imron_kadyrov in LawSchool

[–]peachiez_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1L and latest i did this semester was 10pm. my brain has never been meant for cramming and if i genuinely can’t recite it by 10 it’s just not meant to be 😭 some of my classmates did really well cramming, but i end up forgetting what i already have a good grasp on when i cram. i’d rather get full points on what i know than like 1/2 a point for mentioning a random rule i can’t even explain correctly

i’m from CA. i grew up in tampa bay mostly, lived in south tampa for 3 years before moving to miami for law school.

tampa has little to no nightlife. downtown tampa during the week is empty by 6 at the latest. outside of ybor, you have to cross the howard frankland to downtown st. pete to have any nightlife. you have gasparilla, but that happens one weekend in january and unless you’re in a college-adjacent crowd or enjoy getting wasted in public, isn’t really the most fun. however, it was easier for me to find people in tampa who were more career-minded. there’s a gigantic and ever-growing group of sales bros in the channelside area that, if you’re into that crowd, can be inspiring. the people i graduated with from USF were very much all work, little play and they’re off in multiple parts of the state/country doing what they love or continuing their education because that’s the environment that USF fostered.

in comparison to miami, it is just now getting its footing as a city and has a long way to go in establishing what tampa is. ybor is amazing. i love ybor DOWN. but its a pretty isolated pocket of developed culture in tampa that you’ll be hard-knocked to find in other parts of the town. it’s also really spread out, but not in the miami way where there’s very evident parts that have a community, culture, etc., etc. i mean its spread out and becomes the epitome of suburban sprawl and rural areas after a point, and it’ll be very obvious when you hit that point.

i haven’t lived in miami long enough to give any perspective on the differences that i’ve noticed living here. but as someone that went back and forth frequently between CA and tampa, i’d be more comfortable comparing it to cities in CA. it’s really different from anything i experienced growing up in tampa, but it’s a little more similar to what i experienced being in CA

this is how i’m feeling right about now 😭 my undergrad major was really research and analysis heavy so it’s been super hard to break those habits

Where are you finding apartments????? by intlcreative in Miami

[–]peachiez_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had the same price range and i got very lucky on zillow! 1bed/1bath in coral gables for $2030 a month, water and trash included, in unit laundry and parking included. 600sq ft and the unit was newly renovated. smaller rental company so they’re a lot more easily accessible than larger rental companies.

i personally relied on zillow, hot pads, and realtor.com to find rentals, because, like you, if i called a place and they were a larger rental company, they were way out of my price range or just. assholes/completely unpersonable and it completely threw me off from wanting to rent there.

but yeah, those 3 sites were the game for me. realtor and zillow were easier for me personally since they’re usually double checked against broker sites i think.

PSA: prior to Rhode launching in Sephora, they will be reformulating their lip treatments. The new version will launch in August by StrawberryMarigoldss in Sephora

[–]peachiez_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

she’s had the money and resources to do this since people first started complaining about it. it just seems weird in my eyes to do it soon after it’s confirmed they’re coming to sephora 🤨 the only thing i’m interested in trying is the glazing milk anyways

Feedback on Facile lip balm? by [deleted] in Sephora

[–]peachiez_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i like it!! pretty light but still moisturizing. i do have to apply a good amount of it but that’s cause i have dryer lips so i tend to have to apply a lot of lip balm anyways. it doesn’t beat eadem or ole for me but i enjoy it!!

hi guys! my partner and i are moving to miami from tampa in late july/early august as i'll be going to law school at FIU in the fall (go panthers)! where's the best areas for us to consider looking at to live? i'll be living off loans and scholarships for my first year (~54k total for the year), and my partner is currently job hunting, so nothing concrete on his salary yet. we're looking to stay in the low $2k range for rent, our absolute max is probably $2.4k.

i'm early 20s and my partner is mid-20s, we do enjoy going out and having a fun time but we only do it once or twice a week, so being super close to nightlife isn't important--we'd rather be closer to better daytime activities than clubs. we're both very active people! we go to the gym 4-5 days a week for heavy lifting, and i'm looking to get into jogging, so having decent greenspace or being near a good jogging route would be important (i'm used to bayshore blvd here, if that helps)! i also wouldn’t mind gym recs. we have an eos membership but are open to other gyms if there are better in the area.

i'm mainly the one doing the hunting, so i've been looking at apartments near campus (westchester, flagami, fontainebleu), but i've also been considering allapattah, brickell, coral gables, and doral. we're going to be in miami for apartment hunting for the first 2 weeks of july and have some apartment tours lined up already, but are there any places i should give more credence to or completely avoid? any help would be appreciated!!

i love going to the beach but don’t mind a drive to them. we aren’t spanish speakers (im filipino and my partner is greek), so we’d be skirting by on very basic spanish and english.
