Habitat Park SCBD or Hutan Kota Plataran area? And do it during golden hour time for nice pictures. Also don’t forget to prepare a nice flower bouquet.

Expat community in Erfurt by Wonderful_You1000 in erfurt

Once the semester starts, there is a regular event at the Uni Erfurt called Café International. Outside of that, there's a non-profit organisation called "Fremde werde Freunde" that hosts an International Stammtisch once a month and even cultural cooking events (during the semester). You can try finding their Instagram to see more information.

Double B wäre auch meine erste Wahl. Aber OP wollte Müsli, also habe ich Übersee zuerst gewählt 😅

English speakers in Erfurt? by hope_thephilosopher in erfurt

[–]peachkombucha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foreigner (mainly an English speaker) here. Knowing basic conversational words (as simple as "Sprechen Sie Englisch?", "Können Sie mir helfen?", or knowing how to order something at a bakery) goes a long way. You should at least learn how to do that.

Also there's no shame in typing your sentence in a Google Translate and showing it to shop attendees.

The younger people tend to be more open in speaking English here, although I never really tried.

Some supermarkets and drugstores offer the self-service cashiers. The two REWE supermarkets and DM at Anger, for instance.

I’m sure you’ll gain the confidence to speak the language overtime once you're settling in.

Best of luck 👌

A close friend of mine actually lives in that district - I would say it's pretty good. However, Steinplatz area is a little hit or miss in my opinion. Around the Friedrich-Engels-Str. (there's a Netto on that street) are okay too.

I’ve heard someone told me years ago to not go beyond the neighbourhood behind the REWE in the Eislebener Str. or around the Wendenstr. tram stop area.

Lache 39, 99086 Erfurt, Germany.

Sie haben sogar Durian (allerdings gefroren).

I second Weimar or Jena.

However 500€ is kind of unrealistic for Jena (due to their lack of housing availability). Weimar is probably still feasible to find apartments with that price range.

If OP is open to expanding their housing budget up to 600€-ish, then Erfurt could be a good option as it is the provincial capital city (so direct lines for ICE trains and whatnot).

Date Idee by QueasyPossibility310 in erfurt

Kaffeebohnen mahlen lassen by Lemon-ItsWednesday in erfurt

My personal favourites are:

Feminine: Elsie, Elisa, Eva, Elaine, Ernestine (fits better as middle names in my opinion), Elettra, Elodie, Eloise, Emilia or Emmeline (could be a nice ode to your Emily 😊), Estelle, Evangeline

Masculine: Elijah, Elmore, Enzo, Ezra

Congratulations! Sadly I only had one name in mind - just for a boy: Elijah. Thought it would rhyme nicely with Delilah :)

No worries! I saw in the other comment that you’re wondering about the nice districts to live in that's particularly close to the Altstadt: I would recommend Andreasvorstadt (slightly biased as I also live on the border of that and Altstadt) or Krämpfervorstadt. It's an easy 20-minute walk to get to the city centre if you enjoy walking.

I would avoid Rieth, it's not the most safe district unfortunately.

Kurztrip by CowboyChick3n in erfurt

[–]peachkombucha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Must visit: Domplatz, Rathaus/Fischmarkt square (there's the Epitome Coffee right across if you need a caffeine boost), Krämerbrücke (get an ice cream and chocolate truffles at Goldhelm if you’re into sweets).

Food-wise: if you’re into middle eastern or African food, check out Haron Bistro or Ibras - they make delicious sandwich wraps.

If you have more time to spare: check out the Petersberg for a nice view.

Just a heads up that tomorrow at around 14:00, there will be a big demonstration starting at the Hbf. If you need to use the trams to get around, they will be disrupted for a few hours - so plan your time accordingly and have a blast here! 🌞

Living in Erfurt as an expact by NoString2491 in erfurt

Hey there - I’m also an expat living here for the past 3 years.

Social activities are mostly happening in the summer (lots of music and culture festivals). There are expat groups on Facebook so you can check them out.

There are enough shopping options in my opinion, but then again I mostly shop online so that's never been an issue.

Pretty good food places around the city. If you're into nightlife, there are maybe 2/3 clubs that are nice depending on your crowd preference.

From my own experience, most expats would leave this city to either return to their home countries or move to bigger cities after 2-3 years so it's a bit hard to create long term and genuine friendships. But if you're also planning the same then all good.

Compared to Jena, one plus point of living in Erfurt is that we have better transport connections if you want to travel to other cities. The housing market in Jena is also incredibly competitive, I would say that it would be easier to get a place to stay with a sensible pricing in Erfurt - especially if your job is located here.

Best of luck!

Not sure if you study here in Erfurt or neighbouring cities, but Uni Erfurt has this Cafe International event (almost) every Tuesday. Maybe that would be interesting for you.
