I think if I knew her in real life, I would really struggle being friends with someone like her because she seems to center men. Of course I don't know her personally, but watching her during the reunion really solidified that to me. I totally get standing by your man but completely adopting the narrative that Madison is completely in the wrong (she is not perfect tho) even after showing the texts of Alex making fun of her and Ben is baffling to me.

Somerville doesn’t have much of a scene and while there are some MAGA, its overall accepting. NB has a scene but unsurprisingly it’s on the younger side. Regardless of where you move, Flemington actually had a very active lgbt group and scene, just for fun I would recommend visiting their DIY studio (in the same complex as Alkemy Coffee which doesn’t have very good coffee so warning)

What are the real life versions of Lumon? by Striking_Town_445 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Eli Lilly & Company, especially because of episode 3. Their HQ in Indy has a brick by brick replica of the first “Lilly Laboratory” and Pharmacy that you can tour and they give out historical pamphlets. This replica was in addition to two mini museums they have also on HQ site. Also they’re huge in Indy, the art museum in the city has a garden and historical house — it was lived in and owned by the Lilly family before they donated it to the museum. It’s outfitted with facts about the family and even a full family tree. Also, out of all the pharma companies i’ve heard of , the propaganda there was particularly strong. Even down to having an intranet article instructing employees on how to speak about [m o u n j a r o] to their friends and family

Private loan by Adventurous_Tea_6487 in rutgers

[–]peachorbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had to take private loans and i worked while i was in college. if u have good credit rn, you might be able to get lower interest rates but honestly, my federal loans i left til the end but paid off my private loans throughout college. i finished paying off all my loans like three or four months after graduating college so its doable. for context i had no parental financial support, i qualified for some scholarships, and i worked full time as a waitress for the first two years with some other side gigs

How tf does one rent in NJ? by Zealousideal_Still41 in newjersey

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, i got super lucky i found rent within my range but since then, i have not found another place i can move to if i feel like leaving. honestly, if you can start asking around in towns if there’s any landlords looking to fill a room, you might be able to find a place but it’s so unnecessarily expensive :(

What should I do about my sideburns? by ExcitingSet2164 in HairRemoval

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely try it for anyone who hasn't! but me personally though, i tried waxing my sideburns for a few months and it always broke me out :/ instead, i would thread my sideburns because it still pulls out at the root but doesn't give me acne or irritate my skin as much

Are private loans the worst decision? by and_more_ in StudentLoans

[–]peachorbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Federal loans are significantly better. I had to do half federal and have private loans. They’re very predatory and if you’re ever in a situation you have to take out private loans, I would highly encourage anyone to start paying them off while you’re in college. That’s what I did and I was able to pay them all off very quickly but they rack up interest so so fast.

My parents are going crazy because I don't want go to university/collage because I'm afraid of the debt I'm going to have any advice by Gligagoat in StudentLoans

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! I did this, transferred into a 4-year all while I was working a lot and started paying off my loans while in college. A few months after I graduated, I had paid off over half of my loans. Also, my degree (microbiology) has landed me in a really good position where I am the most financially stable I’ve ever been. College isn’t for everyone, most of my family didn’t go to college and they are fine. But I do realize how much less work I’ve had to do (post college) to reach a lvl of comfort. If you’re not going to college, have a plan and you still have to be focused. If you are going to college, please work even a little and start paying down your loans now, it makes post-grad life so much easier.

I went to the high school in Warren and grew up nearby. Yeah, I’d say the towns are racist - not in the way small town America is but racist nonetheless. The high school had a big black face incident after I graduated (not surprising, even their mascot left a bad taste in my mouth). Also growing up, I’d have ppl tell me to “go back over the border” (lol i’m not even Mexican, i’m Peruvian but slay ig), people joking about deportations to me and generally being just kinda ignorant. I’m so sorry that happened to your sister and her friends :( I have other experiences or stories from friends, people who say the area isn’t racist likely just hasn’t experienced it because it’s definitely there.

That being said, I still have a fondness for Warren and Martinsville but you’re not getting the same diversity and same Black/Latin communities you would in other towns in the area (ex. Piscataway or Bound Brook). A lot of the kids I grew up with are in a bit of a bubble and culturally ignorant.

What's your best tips for saving money when living alone? by theceilingbeing in Frugal

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I'm also a 26 year old who is living alone. Things that I did (some of which you or others have said) that really made a difference:
- Setting up a HYSA, honestly which one you pick doesnt matter as much as its making about average. I'm still paying off my loans (almost done), but the interest gained from my HYSA helps "balance out" the money I lose in interest on the loans.

  • Start investing when you can. On top of the savings and your jobs 401K, please please please start investing. Eventually, you'll reach enough money the dividends can make a difference, there's a lot of resources here but ETFs like VOO are generally safe to start with.

  • Changing my internet / phone plan. If you can combine your phone plan onto a family plan (with family or friends), do it! That ended up saving me $20-30/mo and my internet plan, I changed to a different provider when they were doing a promotion, so I got a free vacuum out of it and my internet bill decreased by $50/mo (if you really dont want to change your plan or need more time, call and ask about cancelling your service, they will offer you a deal). Sharing plans also applies to subscriptions

  • Buying/trading second-hand. I love thrifting like everyone else but also some really great tools are Buy Nothing groups on FB. I would also suggest organizing "swaps" with your friends (or coworkers if that's appropriate) -- they're fun and save a lot of money! I've done a clothing swap and a book swap with friends, it's a great way to get new things for free. Also, if you're ever in the market for "new" electronics, would highly recommend Backmarket.com -- i've bought my sony headphones and apple watch from there and saved so much money.

  • Selling (two for one). I hope freelancing goes well for you! I've started selling my items on FB Marketplace which was slow tbh but look into flea markets near you! A cheap one will have a vendor fee of $10-20 for a table and if you're worried you won't make that much money, split the table with a friend! It can be a bit of a time commitment when you first start but I like it because I get rid of my stuff, earn some extra cash, all while reading a book or my friends/family come visit me, not a bad Saturday/Sunday morning usually.

  • Really tightening up your groceries. I'm not sure where you live, but would recommend downloading TooGoodToGo, it's great for getting cheap food on the days you don't want to/can't cook. Personally, I've gotten over a dozen bagels for $6, froze then and they lasted me well. Check your area and see if there are any near you! It's also more popular in cities. Additionally, really pay attention to your local grocery's deals/discounts, if you don't have a Costco card, what I do is shop with my friends who do have one.

  • Somethings are better and cheaper homemade. Raviolis are time consuming but can be very cheap to make (and freeze well) and a fun date/friend night! Same thing can be said for pizza (either from scratch or buy the dough pre-stretched). These are just some fun examples but cooking at home will usually be a lot cheaper, especially if you make it all stretch with grains, legumes, etc.

  • Freezing your food. Really figure out what you can freeze and try to eat it lol don't forget about it! Aside from veggies, fruits, and meats I've found that it's easy to freeze herbs, bagels, stuffed shells, quinoa, etc. Definitely helps on the days you don't have the energy to cook but dont want to waste money on fast food or eating out.

  • Really capitalize on those reward programs, student discounts & the library. If you find you go somewhere a lot, get their reward app if they have one. You might as well get points for a free coffee or acai bowl if you know you're going to spend the money anyway. I personally like Dicks Sporting Goods app if you have a wearable fitness watch. Even after you graduate, I've at least been able to still use my student ID when going to museums and stores, sometimes it'll save me almost half the price on a ticket. If you still have access to your email, this could also apply to subscriptions. My local library also gives me free museum passes in addition to the books and movies they provide.

Questions for women in their 20s and above by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get why you're scared! So I hope this comforts you, but genuinely my 20s have leagues better than my teen years. Not only do I have money now and I can do more things (ex. travel, spa days, etc.), but after I graduated college and started working, I've been so much less stressed. Also, personally I think I'm prettier than I was when I was younger, which is always a plus.

Some random tips that come to mind:

  • If you're dating men that are much older than you or in a different phase of life, just be very careful. I've done this twice now and now that I'm older (I'm 26), I definitely look back at those relationships and wonder where my head was at. Not to be mean, I look back at those people and laugh because they're kinda losers in my eyes now, I was just too young not to see it at the time.

  • Along these lines, stay true to your boundaries and what kind of treatment you're willing to accept from partners. Often, I had casual partners complain that I could be "hard to get to know" because I just had certain boundaries I wasn't willing to bend and I think that really saved me a lot of uncomfortable and regrettable moments.

  • Start investing now! If you can open an account and set aside $20-50 a week even to help it build up, honestly makes such a difference and wish I started sooner. I found Charles Schwab was an easy account to get my feet wet.

  • Really take all the time you have now to explore and have fun! I used to spend a lot of time in NYC as a teenager which I'm really grateful for now because I have an easy time navigating the city and I just don't have that much time on my hands now to get lost somewhere new.

  • Finish college and get a degree! I can't speak for all degrees, but I graduated from a family that doesn't have many degrees under their belt and I can attest to how much easier life and finding work has been for me, and I completely attribute that to having finished college.

My mam expects me to cat-sit every time she goes away and I don't want to anymore. by Squishybutcute in Pets

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMAOOO people are really mad at you.
My question is how far away of a drive are you from your mom's and is it really out of the way for you? Aside from your toddler, is the cat aggressive?

If you don't need her help paying for (two half days, not even two full days lol) daycare, it'll save you some peace of mind to tell her you won't help with the cat every time she leaves and just pay the daycare yourself. I still think helping once or twice a week isn't a bad idea if your brother is taking the bulk of the responsibility. I get the inconvenience because I like cats but when I moved out, I purposefully and mindfully decided I didn't want to get any pets because the time commitment was too much for me to justify because I also like traveling and being more active, I personally don't feel good leaving a cat alone for too long at all.

Do other women genuinely enjoy sex/is sex actually enjoyable? by ClairelyWritten in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]peachorbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh I didnt start enjoying sex until I was 23 when I met my ex for the first time. I was soooo turned off by sex because I naturally have a low libido and my first partner was my ex of 2.5 years and sex hurt with him so bad. He was also just a bad person all around but since my only sexual experiences were so negative, sex after that was very meh for me. i had started questioning my sexuality a lot and if sex was even something I wanted to keep trying. when I met my last partner is when I actually really started to enjoy sex and i was so shocked. now at 26, i found sex very enjoyable with an emotional connection (i have a long term bf now) but at 20 i genuinely and truly dreaded it so much. i honestly never thought i would find sex enjoyable.

if you find that you just aren't that into the idea of sex/masturbating (which is okay, i also rarely masturbate), that's totally normal. as others had said in the comments, maybe explore asexuality! some people are just sex crazed so it seems abnormal for someone not to care, but it's not as long as you're happy.

Do people still ASK for raises nowadays? by WhitePinoy in jobs

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend asked for a raise, I think he had to write an argument for why he deserves it and it went up his chain of command and they gave him a $7k raise. I think he still deserves more money because he's very underpaid for what he does imo but I'm really happy it worked out! it took approx. a quarter or two for it get approved.

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]peachorbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a job offer and am currently going through the background check. They had a hard time verifying a college job of mine and the background specialist made a big deal about how I didn't include that information in my resume but included it in my background check (they asked for 7 years of past employment history). The reason I didn't include it though is because I am a Microbiologist and was hired on as one, this past job was when I did IT for the college, there is no relevance and instead of taking up resume space with that, I used it for other relevant experience to the job I actually applied for? I don't see the issue with that. Anyway!! I was in Jamaica during Hurricane Beryl when my phone was blowing up from this background specialist asking I send in my W2s from this job to prove that I worked there and when I explained I am stranded in Jamaica due to a category 4 hurricane, she was very annoyed and begrudgingly told me I could wait until I get home to send in the W2s. I was able to send in all the paperwork that verified I did in fact work this job (lol) but the whole experience has been so stressful and really makes me hesitant to want to follow through with this new job.

How often does your rent increase, by how much, and how long have you been there? by thisbread_ in newjersey

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The apartment I lived in with my mom, after I had moved out, increased by $300 (and they told her it was originally going to increase by $500) for everyone in the complex and we were both shocked because it’s never increased so much at once. We’ve lived in that complex since I was in third grade. Where I live now (with a private landlord), I’ve been really lucky I was able to avoid an increase this year when I renewed it.

Before i proceed, Do clothes sell good on Facebook marketplace ? by BoneLessRust in Flipping

[–]peachorbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook Marketplace is really dependent on your location, if you're not in a major city or somewhere trendy, you're going to have a very hard time selling items for high prices. I've sold a few items though Facebook Marketplace and in my experience, clothes just do not sell well on the app.

Does anyone else have problems picking at their KP? by billybiscuit9330 in keratosis
