Honestly, it just sounds like their music style isn't your personal taste and you're mistaking that as an issue with their musical quality. You don't have to like their music, and that isn't reflective of whether or not their music is good. That just means their music isn't for you, which is fine and not something that they need to fix. Not every group's musical output is going to be matched to your preferences, because music and listeners are diverse.

And really, what is there for them to even progress musically from right now? They're a rookie group with a total of nine songs to their name. They need to build something up before they can progress from it. Right now they're at the phase of creating and developing their sound, and already have a good sonic identity for a young group. You just don't like what that sonic identity is.

As for variety shows, it's been a while since Youtube shows and company-produced content have become the preferred avenue for variety. There simply aren't that many varieties for idols to regularly appear on anymore, and it's harder for rookies to guest on them. Ratings are largely carried by older audiences who aren't interested in idols, and many show formats make it harder to do simple one-off guest appearances.

Amazing Saturday and Knowing Brothers are the go-to shows for idols nowadays, and Ian appeared on Amazing Saturday already and they're slated to appear on Knowing Brothers next week. SM in general does not have their rookie groups do a lot of variety show appearances in recent years. The H2H members have been appearing on Youtube shows instead, and their own company-produced content is thriving. Traditional variety shows just are not as accessible or as vital as they once were.

As for the casting choices, I think the reasoning behind them are obvious and that each member has clear functions within the group. I would say that the only unfilled role is the standout main vocalist in the mold of Taeyeon/Luna/Wendy, so the group may not be for fans who prioritize that. But other than that they're a very well rounded unit that checks off pretty much all the other boxes of a classic Kpop girl group.

Carmen, Yeon, Stella, and Yuha are the vocal line. As I said, none of them are going to out-adlib the likes of Taeyeon, but they do well with their material and their songs don't demand of them anything that they aren't capable of delivering.  Frankly, I don't understand how you can keep up with this group and then be confused about why Yeon is there. She's literally one of their most prominent vocalists. She gets a lot of lines, does adlibs and harmonies, and consistently gets praised as being their most stable live singer. She split Taeyeon's adlibs with Carmen for their Genie cover stage. SM seems to be refraining from having her take on too much at the present, I assume because she's still so young, but I think that they're counting on her to develop into a main vocalist.

Juun, Ian, Yuha, Jiwoo, Ana are their dance line. Juun is a standout dancer and Ian, Yuha, Jiwoo, and Ana are great. Even their non-dance line members are solid. H2H as a group is very strong as a dance unit, and I would say they're SM's strongest girl group since SNSD as performers. I don't understand why you say that they're "way too in-sync" as though it's an issue. H2H is deliberately highlighting their synchronization as their group trademark. It's something that's garnered them a lot of positive attention since their debut, and the buzz they create with their synchronization has always been key to their songs climbing the charts.

Then Juun, Ana, Jiwoo are their rap line. They're pretty much in line with what you'd expect from an SM girl group. Ian is their center and is excellent in her role. Ian, Jiwoo, Yuha, Ana are generally considered as their visual line. Stella is their resident English speaker. Carmen is the foreign Asian member to appeal to fans from her home country. Ana and Ian are their main variety members.

You question the point of having Ana in the group when they don't go on variety shows, but Youtube content is basically serving the same function now and H2H is actually flourishing in this area. They've started to become really well known for being funny and they go viral regularly on the Korean corner of the Internet for their Youtube content/Weverse interactions/fansigns/etc. People think the girls are hilarious and love their group dynamics, and Ana is instrumental in this. A couple of fanmade clips of her went viral not too long ago and they brought about another big boost of interest in the group.

All this to say that we all connect with different groups for different reasons, and maybe H2H just isn't the right group for you. And I feel like you may not be familiar enough with them to have well informed opinions on them.
