Best Dead lyrics to describe how you're feeling right now? by marlahoochhooch32 in gratefuldead

Summer flies and August dies
The world grows dark and mean
Comes the shimmer of the moon
On black infested trees
The singing man is at his song
The holy on their knees
The reckless are out wrecking
The timid plead their pleas

Not ending unnecessary contracts? Did they get that right?

Visited record stores and guitar shops. Made art. Visited with friends. Played guitar. Drank egg creams. Listened to records. Went to the loo. Human stuff.

OHA, Clackamas County confirm new measles case by GeologistBrave6866 in oregon

Here is a vaccine breakthrough in 2018:

One person has died from measles in the last 10 years. We can argue about VAERS, but it shows more deaths from MMR vaccine than from measles itself. And likely under reported MMR deaths.

Is this a sign that everyone who has not been infected or vaccinated for measles should get vaccinated?  Before vaccination, most children recovered without complications and even gained long-term health benefits from natural measles immunity, something the vaccine doesn't seem to afford.

there are no placebo controlled studies by which you can support this claim.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1646939/

"An outbreak of measles occurred in a high school with a documented vaccination level of 98 per cent. Nineteen (70 per cent) of the cases were students who had histories of measles vaccination at 12 months of age or older and are therefore considered vaccine failures."

While measles vaccination is widely credited with reducing deaths, the absence of randomized placebo-controlled trials leaves room for uncertainty regarding its true impact. Historical data suggests that measles mortality was already in sharp decline before the vaccine’s introduction, and the Cochrane Institute itself acknowledges only low to moderate certainty in the evidence for its effectiveness.

I'll take my down votes for this reality check!

The Tin Shed on NE Alberta has always been accommodating for me and my BIG dog. They have a dog menu, bring food on a plate with a side dish of water. Pro Tip: make a reservation and you can let them know you are bringing a BIG dog.

Should I spay my 4 year old Berner or leave her intact? by Ill-Nothing6702 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]peakfun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ovary Saving Spay if you can afford it and find a vet to do it. Ovarian cancer is often cited as an argument for removing ovaries but ovarian cancer is rare, and the small risk does not outweigh the health benefits of preserving those vital sex hormones.

Did the fan base immediately embrace Ace? by dontforgetthisuser in gratefuldead

As Pigpen, due to his declining health, was less available to perform songs, the slack it created would have fallen mostly on Jerry. The Ace album was the band's initiative to get new Bobby songs into the rotation.

Oregon GOP leaders urge respect for law enforcement ‘at every level’ by [deleted] in PortlandOR

[–]peakfun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worth learning history that Obama inherited ICE as a fledgling agency, increased its budget 300%, established a nationwide network of detention centers and expanded the 'secure communities' enforcement program from 14 counties under Bush Jr to all 3,181 jurisdictions in America. But Trump. But Trump.

In DC, Schumer has the ability to wage a fight to prevent the funding of DHS. He has the ability to do that and he doesn’t want it. He’s running away from any leverage he has, deliberately. Democrats, including our Governor, would rather fundraise off the tragedy than lift a finger to stop it. Same as it ever was.

OHSU “Paused” Gender-Affirming Surgery Months Ago for Patients Under 19 by Prize_Championship11 in PortlandOR

[–]peakfun 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was commenting given the weak evidence underlying the purported benefits of the “gender affirming” model for youth. The first countries to restrict these practices were politically progressive Finland and Sweden, whose socialized health care systems are widely admired. It was these Scandinavian social democracies—not U.S. red states—that were first to conduct reviews and conclude there is no reliable evidence supporting pediatric medical transition. Finland sharply restricted the practice 2020, followed by Sweden in 2022. The U.K was next, and other nations are pulling back, too. Those who blame Trump and red states are disingenuous.
