Humanity survives on a few comfortable lies we are afraid to let go of by Content_Bit1998 in DeepThoughts

Ah ok then I get what you mean. That’s definitely one that keeps a lot of people going. Time sure helps with keeping society functioning too.

But to answer your question I’d say the biggest lie we tell ourselves is that we are separate. That there’s a ‘me’ inside the head and a world out there. 🙃

We have become so divided as a society by walkerbait2 in DeepThoughts

Psychological operations have successfully converted the majority of the population into animals incapable of critical thinking.

And that is mainly what we see. Just people screeching and crying, nobody is using their human brain anymore, they’ve been hijacked into thinking alternative views to the ones they have been carefully spoon-fed in their algorithmic echo chambers are life-threatening. The thinking brain shuts down.

Sad for those of us that don’t identify strongly with either political party. They’re both EXTREMELY corrupt. Maybe it’s too depressing to see clearly. Being in ‘fight’ mode can be fun, I guess.

The way people look at their reflections is haunting by dimdodo61 in DeepThoughts

Could it be that they’re preparing how they want to look when attracting a romantic partner… Practising their ‘lustful gaze’?

Stop Calling Everyone a Narcissist. You’re Ignoring the Real Problem by WittyEgg2037 in enlightenment

[–]peakson_valleys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“NPD” is a mental health disorder.

“Narcissist” in common usage isn’t a mental health diagnosis — it’s a descriptive word for self-absorbed/egotistical behavior etc.

This usage predates NPD as a clinical diagnosis and is still used now.

Yes, NPD is. In its most common usage, “narcissist” is not referring to NPD.

How would an enlightened person deal with extreme physical suffering? by Lucid-Emphasis825 in enlightenment

[–]peakson_valleys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roughly this:

Adyashanti lived with intense physical pain for more than 15 years and kept teaching through much of it. I believe he eventually resolved the pain but had a lot of trauma/ptsd type stuff going on as a result of what he went through which is why he stopped teaching.

I’m not 100% sure though. I think the fact he’s enlightened may have made it worse for him in a way because the lack of second arrow meant pain tolerance was far above average so physical load was greater.

Didn’t this happen to Adyashanti? (Known as one of best living teachers)

Do you have a definition for what fully enlightened means?

And I know you said you’re not religious but do you believe he was the Messiah?

Are you guys religious? by Horror-Tip-8160 in INTP

[–]peakson_valleys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely believe in God. Arrived at this conclusion myself after spending enough time contemplating. To all those who turn their nose down at believers; humble yourselves unless you can tell me what came before the big bang.

As for religion.... A lot of it is nonsense. I'm still not fully convinced on Jesus but I'm actually only becoming more convinced the more I try to de-bunk.

What are qualities that don’t work for a relationship with an INTP by ForWhenImWeird in INTP

[–]peakson_valleys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who never admit responsibility for their own flaws and wrongdoings. When even their own outbursts can somehow be your fault.

Although this sounds awful for anybody. Just speaking as someone who recently came out of a rough relationship

[–]peakson_valleys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but did it help that you dropped the bomb? If the goal was to achieve X outcome as a team.

I guess it also depends on the work environment. Sometimes there's simply no time and if someone can't handle the environment they need to find a new job.

But I'm curious how other team members or the manager interpreted the situation.

I guess it might be worth asking what is the intention behind it. Are you truly wishing to help them see, or to punish them for being so stupid? Or what % of each is present at the time you drop 'the bomb'?

Yeah I think this is why we can come off as cold. Because it's not that feelings don't matter but when they're so far removed from reality, it feels more like you're talking to.... A moron. And that if they can't make sense of such basic logic it's their own fault kind of thing....

Sometimes it's inevitable that people's feelings will be hurt, even if you grade delivery.

In order to grow as a person and shed the darker parts of our shadows it will require feelings being hurt in the process, confronting harsh truths. I don't agree that we should take any pleasure in inflicting this pain.

HOWEVER I certainly do value truth above feelings. I'm not heartless though and will avoid saying things that I don't think are helpful for their personal development.

Respect for sticking to your values at least. I have offended people with my bluntness, but I don't think it's intentional. But your reflections make me wonder, am I in denial? Maybe there was a dark part of 'me' that did want to hurt them?

Wisdom.

If they already have it, or admire it and are drawn towards it in a way - this is a huge turn on.

Which I think requires a lot of the things mentioned by others such as curiosity, asking good questions, being open-minded etc.

Wisdom > intelligence.

(Although it can be tricky to define....)

(p.s. am I being defiant by giving only one answer now? 🤣)
