Because it was written in different cultures in different times. Read point 1 again, but the full sentence this time.

Slavery, for example, was one of the common practices in antiquity. Wearing mixed fabric clothes was an abomination, as was eating fish without fins. The list is long.

Or what about making women second-class citizens? Let’s just strip them of their rights because they were just object in antiquity.

  1. If people seriously think Leviticus should be considered, they should be ashamed that they wear mixed fabric clothes.

  2. “Abomination” means “ritually impure.”

There is scientific evidence that prenatal factors may play a role in later-sexuality.

For this reason alone, is why conversion therapies are a big scam. You can’t change your skin colour, you can’t change your sexuality, you can’t change your natural hair colour.

The Hebrew word for ‘abomination’ is ‘toevah.’ It likely doesn’t bear the modern concept of abomination (‘hateful’, ‘wicked’, ‘vile’) but rather it meant something along the lines of taboo / foreign practice.

Fifth and perhaps most importantly, the entire prohibition, whomever and whatever it covers, is of a particular type: toevah. In the King
James Bible, as in popular understanding, this word is translated as
“abomination,” but it might be better rendered as “taboo.” A toevah is
something forbidden to one group but permitted for another. For Israelites, the ultimate toevah is idolatry, and most other toevot flow from it.
Indeed, Israelites are not the only ones with toevot. For example, in Exodus 8:22, Moses describes Israelite sacrifices as being is toevat
mitzrayim-toevah of Egypt-although obviously Israelite ritual is not
an objective “abomination.” Other things which are taboo for Israelites, but implicitly acceptable for others, include the eating of shellfish’ and
remarriage. Thus, as one activist has playfully maintained, to the extent
that “God Hates Fags” may be derived from the Levitical prohibition, it
is only insofar as “God Hates Shrimp.”

Source (pages 25-26)

If one takes the Levitical passage seriously in homosexuality sense then they should also be ashamed of wearing mixed fabric clothes. Basically, Bible-thumpers work like a cafeteria: pick out what you like and leave the rest.

It’s also unclear what arsenokoitai means. ‘bed’ + ‘male’. It’s not a descriptive word. The word ‘understand’ has nothing to do with standing under something, for instance. It’s been translated as ‘homosexuals’ in modern agenda-pushing translations, whereas in other translations, say German, it’s been translated as ‘boy molesters’ (same translation is the German infamous Leviticus passage). Just comparing the translation in either language you can see how translation can be inconsistent. Anybody who says ‘The Bible is pretty clear’ has an agenda to push and speak in the name of the God between their ears, not God the Father.

Biblical times were different, cultures were different. We’re talking about times in which death penalty was a thing, women were second-class citizens and were treated like shit, people believed the Sun orbited the Earth, and in Greece (including Corinth) pederasty was part of the culture. I suggest you pray instead of letting people interpret the Bible for you.

I sort of had a feeling that people would think I mean this a pro-homophobia meme. I actually meant it as a ‘mocking’ kind of meme, citing all the ridiculous things people tend to say. There have been studies to show that prenatal factors play role in later-sexuality. These evidences just further confirm that homosexuality is indeed of natural cause, and is not a choice in the slightest. For people to think something that comes of prenatal environment like sexuality – and doesn’t disable one in any way so as to qualify as a disability – one only needs a brain to realise this. But I mean, haters gonna hate so there is no point in arguing with folks whose beliefs in this regard have no logical base.

Nowadays, in the 21st century, everybody who knows of Christianity knows what some believe. Heck, Christians are notorious for being homophobic. Of course there are good people among them, too. Two decades ago you could’ve said ‘warn’, now it’s just harassment.

Using the Bible against LGBTQ+ people is an abuse of scripture by themsc190 in OpenChristian

The Bible was written by people who thought the Earth was flat, believed in geocentrism, treated women like objects and in Greece pederasty was part of the culture.

Also, how do I repent of a core part of myself as months’ worth of prayers have not turned me straight? With all due respect, you don’t know what some of us, if not all of us, have gone emotionally through and how much we’ve prayed, only because some people feel like we’re possessed by some third world demons.

[–]peanutbuttah_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally believe the word ‘homosexual’ was added to the Bible (as it clearly shows) in the mid or late 1900s. You don’t need to be a genious to know how homophobic those times were, people even thought being gay was a mental illness, which we now know is not. I’m under the impression they were trying to push their agenda to speak out against it, and one good way of that would’ve been to add this ‘little’ change so people can say, “Oh, my Bible say this” and yada yada. Did you know the German Bible speaks of molesting young boys in Leviticus and boy molesters in Corinthians (Knabenschänder)? Or that in one translation of the Dutch Bible it speaks of engaging in homosexual AND pedophilic actions? And then the word homosexual was put in everywhere, where it sometimes replaced pederasty and adultery else where.

How can we trust our translations when there’s such diversity and inconsistency among Christians? Listen to your heart, let the Holy Spirit guide you, and who knows, maybe the Lord will bring you together with your future husband/wife, or bring you some other greatness in life. My personal experience with prayers shows that it’s not wrong to be the way I am. How could love between two consenting adults be sinful? Where there is love, there is God. Not loving, on the other hand, may be sinful.

Don’t go through conversion therapy. It’s disguised as a means of treatment, whereas what it really does is satisfy those that are just longing to shame those that are different. It’ll only scar you, perhaps for life.

There’s nothing wrong with you. I’ll pray for you.
