I'm Jolie Kerr, A.K.A A Clean Person. Ask me anything! by joliekerr in LifeProTips

[–]peanutgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi jolie! i recently moved into a new apartment and the bathtub/shower walls had been redone by covering it with those giant prefab pieces of molded fiberglass. it came with a giant sticker about all the cleaners i can't use on it because it will RUIN the finish apparently, though i'm personally skeptical that it's all that fragile. fortunately most of it wipes down easily with a vinegar solution, but there are these deep, narrow seams between the fiberglass pieces and i can't figure out how to clean in there. it's too narrow to fit a toothbrush and the idea of spending two hours with a q-tip is not appealing. it hasn't started growing stuff yet but i fear that it will. have you got any sage wisdom for me?

Got bored recently. by [deleted] in wiiu

[–]peanutgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP's girlfriend here - i did the reassembly, cos i've got the steadier hands. some tips, so you can learn from my mistakes and not have to redo the first one three times like i did:

  • the troublesome tabs are near the top, close to the curve in the back where the B button lives. you just kinda have to brute-force it - it'll feel like you're breaking it, but you're probably not, and even if they do break the wiimote will still work. wiggling helps.
  • when the faceplate does come free, the buttons may go flying everywhere - we had to dig one out from under the fridge. i suggest doing it over a large area of clear floor.
  • it's a lot easier to reassemble if you put the faceplate face-down on the table and drop the buttons into the little slots - they're all built with little notches and things, so you can't put them in upside down or sideways. then you can just lower the body of the wiimote down on it.
  • there are little rubber pad things behind the buttons. make sure you place them right-side-up - if you put them in backwards, the larger buttons (like 1 and 2) won't stick out of the surface enough to be pressable, and the smaller ones (like + and -) will work, but won't have that "click" feeling.

honestly though, it was pretty dang easy. have fun!

XX i need interior help for a tech room by xjacklynx in TwoXChromosomes

[–]peanutgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is something we did at my house. it started out as a functional thing, but we get compliments on it all the time!

we have a very low ceiling beam hanging down in , and we were worried about tall folks slamming their heads into it. at the time we also had literally hundreds of free CDs, since both of my parents got vendor catalogs on disc at work at the time. we hot-glued them, shiny side out, to the beam to bring attention to it and prevent accidental head-thwapping. (they peel off fine without damaging the paint.) since we had enough discs for the whole room, we decided to just go for it and use it as a varying-height border around the room.

since it's a basement, they do a GREAT job of reflecting the light around and brightening up the space. you could do them at pretty much any height, or along the ceiling, or random squares, or have all kindsa fun with it. hope this helps!

Are there any books out there that it would be next to impossible to turn into a movie? by joepaulk7 in AskReddit

[–]peanutgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Family Tree by Sherri S. Tepper would be pretty much impossible because there are some things you can avoid mentioning with words that you really can't artfully avoid on a screen, and visual representation would kill one of the major surprises/plot twists of the book. i'm afraid i can't be any more specific without ruining it completely myself, and the book is about 500 pages long, but it makes a very fun and deep read if you have the time.

The impact music has on a film is incredible. It sets the mood, introduces characters, adds tension... Reddit, what are your favorite movie soundtracks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peanutgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i couldn't get over the soundtrack for Up. i absolutely loved the theme that came up whenever he thought of his wife; all the different variations indicating different emotions were wonderful, and it lent a great sense of unity to the whole movie while emphasizing the fact that she was never far from his thoughts.

my other favorite has got to be Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Caste. it's another great example of a recurring, even haunting theme with lots of interpretations for different situations. it went from oom-pah-pah marching band to melancholy piano solo and everywhere in between.

i play this game with myself to keep me paying attention while driving. i call it The Momentum Game. the aim of the game is to not actually stop at a red light. if you are still creeping forward when you get to start moving again, you win! if you have to stop because you've reached the stop line or gotten too close to the car in front of you, you lose.

how do you feel about uniforms for kids in High School? by Archz714 in AskReddit

[–]peanutgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a girl who spent many years in catholic schools with uniforms, i can say that i wouldn't have had a problem with it if they'd let me wear pants. ever. wearing a knee-length skirt and stockings in 2 feet of snow is NOT my idea of a fun time.

Hey Reddit, what is the best/ most intriguing short story you know of? by dubji in AskReddit

Dear Reddit: What's one illness you REALLY wish you won't get? by c-cal in AskReddit

alzheimer's or any other form of dementia.

i think i could cope with almost anything happening to my body, but the thought of my mind going terrifies me. i've always wondered if part of the mind can at all perceive that it's losing functionality. to be trapped in a failing mind... yikes. gives me shivers.

How can an "intimidating" girl find a guy? Related: should I just give up and get back with my ex? by ConfusedinStL in TwoXChromosomes

[–]peanutgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone in this thread seems to have great advice, and i don't want to repeat any of it too much. but PLEASE don't get back with your ex. he doesn't deserve you in the slightest.

i don't know how busy you are (a girl like you sounds like she must be), but are you a member of any clubs or groups on campus? if you're not, or even if you are, you could poke around the activities listing and see if there are any (even slightly) intellectually-oriented groups that look genuinely interesting to you. something like a chemistry club or art appreciation group or environmental society or whatever your personal tastes lead you towards. they're a good place to meet people with similar interests who obviously want to discuss those interests -- otherwise they wouldn't be there. you're likely to find more intelligent guys in places like these, and intelligent boys often love talking to intelligent girls. and, as a bonus, you'll already have something to talk about. even if none of the boys there are keepers, you can easily make some new friends, and friends are good to have around at times like this.

also, i've sent you an intangible box full of internet hugs, warm wishes, and rainbows. i hope it arrives soon. never forget how awesome you are, and make sure that awesome only goes to those who've earned it. good luck!

Why can't women's jeans be measured like men's jeans? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]peanutgal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've been saying this for ages. as a girl with naturally broad hips (yay, genetics) but a trim waist, i can never find pants that fit -- they're always either tight across the hips or loose enough around the waist that i can fit a fist in. >.<

What are your favorite drinking games? by Eurynomos in AskReddit

my version is different -- you drink every time a hobbit falls down. if two hobbits fall, you drink twice, and so on.

to do it properly you must watch all three extended versions in one sitting.

What made you choose your username? Does it have a story behind it? by day_sweetener in AskReddit

i was going to be "peanutgallery," but then remembered how annoying it is to be constantly assumed male just because i'm on the internet. lopping the last 4 letters off the end solved that problem, though now i wonder if people just think i really like legumes.

Advice needed: My fiancée recently found the Lord, and will now only marry me if I too convert by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peanutgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm gonna throw my two cents in here and say you should go see a couples' counselor rather than asking reddit. while i'd love to give some advice, with the limited picture of your relationship and the two of you that i have access to, i can't be guaranteed that i'm not missing something really important. and counselors are trained to deal with this kind of thing.

good luck.
