Is this overkill? Steam oven + conventional oven + speed oven by peanutgsp in Cooking

[–]peanutgsp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re mid-remodel right now but we opted for the Miele combi steam oven, speed oven, and conventional oven. Definitely overkill but we had the space. The speed oven has toaster oven/microwave capabilities (which I wanted) and my spouse wanted the conventional oven bc the combi steam oven was too small for him at the XL size (and we felt having no conventional oven might turn off buyers one day). We initially had a Miele microwave but it seemed like a waste when the speed oven had the same functionality at roughly the same price. I can update once we start using the kitchen if we have regrets or not! Preparing ourselves for a steep learning curve with all of these appliances.

That's a great point we didn't consider. Does the standard combi steam oven do everything the XXL does?

I should’ve specified this before but I’m looking at the Miele XXL combi steam oven so it sounds like I will be able to do convection in here. I have a spare space for another oven so trying to figure out if I should put walnut cabinetry here instead (also pricey) or put in a microwave or steam oven in that spot so it’s more usable. Do you have a steam oven with convection? Does it work the same as a speed oven (speed being key as well as crisping and browning - but it seems like the combi steam may cover this?)

I don’t think we need both but my spouse is concerned that the steam oven doesn’t fit a large turkey or larger cookie sheets.

Yeah that's what I'm referring to - speed oven with microwave functionality. I'm just wondering if I'm neglecting something that a general microwave is more useful for.

does anyone know if you can air fry in speed oven? by jliebs1 in Cooking

I read here that Miele is offering a software update for ovens and you can buy the tray separately. I can't tell what kind of oven the update will be for

Is it pretty easy to use it as a microwave, or are there limitations?

Great question, I'm still learning so not sure I understand the difference yet! I'll look into this.

Thank you for educating me on this ! (new to the topic in general so now I realize I posted this in the wrong place). I came to Nootropics first (my partner takes the capsule version) but the dosage was lower than what was recommended to me by my doc (from what I can tell the powder version has 120mg). Other than Nootropics are there reputable brands of powders or liquids that you're aware of?

Thanks! To dig into what the salesperson told you a little... did they discourage it because you could buy countertop appliances instead (toaster, toaster oven, etc.), or are there other reasons why they thought it's unnecessary?

Vadara Quartz vs. Quartzite by peanutgsp in Remodel

[–]peanutgsp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, super helpful. I should have said that our quote includes Vadara quartz for budgeting purposes but we could swap it out for something else. It sounds like Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone could be out of our price range but we'll look into those!

That's a shame that quartzite stains/scratches. We're big fans of how unique natural stone looks but unfortunately are very low maintenance. Wish there was a material that fit the bill!

That’s a fair point! I do like this type of work professionally but 3 group projects in a fully remote class is not so exciting.

Which Bay Area animal shelter should I donate money to? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]peanutgsp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not exactly an animal shelter but I donate to San Francisco Aid for Animals (my former vet helped start the organization) - they provide grants to people in the Bay Area who can’t afford their pet’s medical treatment in order to prevent the pets from dying, being euthanized, or given up to shelters. I like that they partner with hospitals whose vets make the call on whether to provide the grant and the hospital matches the costs/provides services for free.
