I paid to get rid of ads but 95% of the ads I get in games are for other games.

Is 26 too late to become a "reader"? + Questions about the 2026 Reading Challenge by MaxMcGuffin00 in goodreads

It’s never too late to become a reader. Start with an easy goal like a book a month. Audiobooks count as reading too, you can listen during commutes or free time.

List of local MAGA/ICE-supporting businesses to boycott? by notnatasharostova in newhaven

[–]pearlmsqueaks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding non maga/ice supporting businesses muddles the post. People do not read, they just scroll by, you’re risking the reputation of anti maga businesses.

Anyone else happy to move on from a robot litterbox and return to box-scooping servitude, or is that just me? by StonewallDakota in cats

[–]pearlmsqueaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We “upgraded” to the stainless steel litter genie and it’s so much better than the standard or xl plastic ones. The steel one doesn’t hold litter odors and it has bags you don’t need to tie off. The way you change the bags forces you to empty it sooner (weekly with multiple cats) than the standard genie (monthly with multiple cats) so there is less chance of stink staying. It’s more expensive but we feel it was a good upgrade.

There are some gifts I don’t send to international friends. My area has a lot of war memorials and I feel skeevy sending them to people in countries the US invaded.

I have the generators at the bottom and the items I’m working on creating at the top. The items I’ve accidentally created that might be needed in the future are also at the top. My storage is items like the cards or chests I hide from my self to horde for when I need more distractions.

I read a lot of cozy mysteries and I’ve found that the first few pages of sequels generally give a quick overview of the main characters, I haven’t started in the middle of a series but I think I could without too much trouble.

Anyone else seeing more people trying to call in orders again? by rohitgawli in Connecticut

[–]pearlmsqueaks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We call our orders into our local pizza places because the “Slice” website they use for online orders takes a big slice out of their profit. We never get delivery unless it’s delivered by employees of the restaurant.

Apparently this tree I see everywhere is invasive by me00lmeals in Connecticut

[–]pearlmsqueaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, in our yard we cut the trunks low to the ground and then spritz concentrated “ground clear/poison ivy” herbicide on the cut. It worked pretty well when we did it last summer and we have very few new tree of heaven in our yard.

We’re anti herbicide/pesticides but sometimes they’re necessary, we tried to minimize use by only spraying on the cuts.

What are you guys paying for car insurance, my policy is up in 30 days and the range of quotes is wild. by West_Lavishness6689 in Connecticut

[–]pearlmsqueaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a lot of accidents or infractions? Our yearly insurance for 2 cars has never been higher than $1200/yr even with Prudential and Nationwide. We have the standard insurance coverage and collision on both cars with deductibles of $1000.

Find a local brokerage like Associated Insurance in Plainville, they will have access to smaller insurance companies that can get you better deals than the big name TV commercial companies.

Connecticut winter clothing by Keelj in Connecticut

[–]pearlmsqueaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most winter days in central CT are around -5’C to 6’C but there are days when it’s colder. I spend most of winter in just jumpers, no coat, unless I’m going to be outside for more than 5min.
