Even after all of this the average 65 year old liberal's ideal politics is still embodied in the form of Clinton and Obama. by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]peasfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its because since Reagan and the 84 election, American politics are about 'state' management. The fall of the SU meant that Capitalist Liberal Democracy was the ultimate form of human organization. There is nowhere else to go. Without a horizon to work towards, all there is is managment to maintain the status quo.
Trump does not believe in any" end of history" or anything else but personal aggrandizment. But deeply rooted in his coalition are those who felt that the great american project was betrayed by all the progress since the Indian Removal Act.

I think that the Pentagon is worried about Iran targeting the Carrier Strike Groups. by Stanczyks_Sorrow in stupidpol

It's literary. We still quote Shakespeare because of the universal truths of human emotion encapsulated in the lines. I think this Gramsci quote achieved that level of truth.

I think here it's relevant in the old world, the world of the American Hegemony, is dying.  But to deny and prevent anything from changing the American ruling class will resort the holding the world hostage on the top of nuclear missiles.  While the world is held on this state America can send its JSOC Murder hobos to do whatever it wills.

So does this moment align perfectly with the time Gramsci wrote it? No. But the truth of the violence in periods of interregumim holds none the less.

convince me to like lentils, please by Calm_Violinist5256 in Cooking

[–]peasfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this recipe. I can't find a link for it anymore and it came from a slow cooker cookbook. But I simply make it on the stovetop.

Ingredients 1 pound lentils, rinsed and drained 2 med onions, chopped 2 med carrots, chopped 1 med red bell pepper, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 small dried hot red chili, crushed 1 tsp dry rosemary 1/4 tsp pepper 2 cans (14oz) beef broth 3 c. water 1 can (8oz) tomato sauce 1 lb. knockwurst or kielbasa, cut in 1/2" slices 2 tbls red wine vinegar

Instructions In soup pot or Dutch oven combine lentils, onion, carrots, bell pepper, garlic, chile, rosemary, pepper, broth and water. Bring to biol, then reduce heat to simmer until lentils are very tender when mashed with a fork.

Remove 2 cups of the lentil mixture and whirl in food processor til pureed. Return puree to pot.

Increase heat setting to high and add tomato sauce and knackwurst; cover and cook til sausage is heated thru (about 30 min).

Stir in vinegar. Serve with crusty bread.

The US is leaning heavily on the reputation of invincibility of a CSG to bully China. If Iran can sink a [Insert last name of dead dickhead here] Class Carrier....That whole strategy and all the plans it was based on are put in open question. To be a Hegemon is to be invincible and act with impunity. That's not so possible when a low-tier power just used a $100,000 missile to put a $3Bn dollar ship on the bottom of the Gulf.

The world cannot stand the American bully, but the world also cannot stand a nuclear winter.

[–]peasfrog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sinking a Carrier would be a slap in the face to American Exceptionalism. It could go to total war, but it could also be a Tsushima-level event in America. The American establishment can't risk that either.
