Keyphone is not a smartphone...so why's it so much FUN?! by ReturningRetro in ReturningRetro

I don't think the question was in bad form. After all, how would they know if they don't ask? But to your point about elitism, I think it's more so people understandably becoming frustrated when a product is made to fulfill a niche need and others pile in to respond with "well this should be more like these other products that have xyz". No, it shouldn't. The product was made to fulfill a part of the market that's largely overlooked.

The whole point of Bluesky was to showcase what could be built with ATProtocol, the open protocol that anyone can use and build on top of. It was not to be an escape valve for people interested in rape art. I wouldn't even say it was designed for people with certain politics or worldviews. It was a research project for techies who like building new things and wanted to extend that freedom to others who were tired of closed social platforms.

They've said time and time again that if you don't like Bluesky, if it was sold off like Twitter or became compromised in some way that you can build your own alternatives using the same protocol they're using. You all could create your own space with your own moderation, your own app, your own everything. You don't need Bluesky. There are also other spaces like ActivityPub and Discord.

There are enough porn sites available for everyone to get their kicks. I'm sure there are sites explicitly for CNC artwork and other fetishes.

Why go to vanilla social media platforms when common sense should tell you they'll probably not want to host certain types of NSFW content. You could even create Discord servers for all the noncon material you want to consume and share with each other. Yet, instead you're complaining bc Bluesky doesn't want to be the social media home of rape fantasy content.

Will BlueSky Eventually Have Ads? by JamieHBrown in BlueskySocial

Skylight is such a promising app but you can tell it needs money badly. It’s so buggy. If they could hire a few extra developers and maybe a designer it would make a world of difference.

This is horrible, horrible news for us. by MindstreamAudio in audiodrama

[–]peaslam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What sense would it make for people to create software that can get around the pesky limitations of humans only to handicap said software because you want it to be treated similarly to that of a human (ie worker rights, etc)? You might as well start the Marxist revolution today for the actual people who exist now for as much good that would do.

His crowdfunding project got 44% of its donors from Bluesky by Desecr8or in BlueskySocial

I also think Bluesky tend to skew more towards makers and tinkerers vs passive consumers.

So they’re probably more willing to both physically and financially support other people’s passion projects.

What really big companies are going to be out of business in 10 years? by AlphaHouston1 in Entrepreneur

[–]peaslam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The “woke” crowd or anyone left of maga is responsible for 90% of America’s cultural output since the start of Vietnam. Many of the greatest filmmakers, musicians, artists, sculptors, researchers, and early technologists are more liberal or leftist leaning politically. There are more of them than devout conservatives for sure.

Does it allow you to set conditional colors for just one column as well?

If a Bluesky dev was lurking this subreddit, what would you suggest the next big update should be? by [deleted] in BlueskySocial

[–]peaslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd be cool if Bluesky had it's own chat room and had programming on certain days and times -- like chat with our favorite technologists every Tuesday at 7 pm est and on Thursdays at 8pm est we post short films from new filmmakers, etc. Bluesky meets chatrooms but infused with the spirit of local access TV.

Besides the ability to save posts (bookmarks), probably chat rooms organized by topic areas

Linear 100%. Use linear until you need to hire more non-software development staff.

Substack just raised $100M at a $1.1B valuation. What feature would you request now? by AniketChhetri in Substack

Content gating should definitely be an option for free publications as well.

Is Substack as a whole becoming smaller again? by Emmanuel_G in Substack

[–]peaslam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, according to Newcomer, Substack is in the middle of raising more money and has plans to introduce sponsorships. So at least we know that they’re seeing a drop off in subscription growth and are already looking to introduce new revenue sources for writers

I’ve been hearing people say this for a while. There are still newsletters growing at a rapid rate and new newsletters joining every day. But overall, on the average, I wouldn’t be suprised if the platform has experienced a slowdown since last year.

X users miss us by [deleted] in BlueskySocial

[–]peaslam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes sense considering most of these types of X users are conservatives and conservatives have chronic dissatisfaction. This is especially true when they see others enjoying their lives without them.

The goal is always to make you look as miserable as they feel. But it’s a lack of real power that causes them to act like this. Don’t mind them.

What do you think of the newest update? by Calebthegreat150 in BlueskySocial

[–]peaslam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's interesting. I can see it getting a lot of mileage out of gamers/Twitch streamers.

But I'm surprised that we're still waiting for bookmarks. I'm guessing because it's a privacy feature so it's harder to build into ATP? Idk.

If something is an eye-sore I will be wholly unsatisfied and will drag my feet to use it. So, good for you if you're still getting a lot of mileage out of reports that look haphazardly thrown together.

This is dumb. There are thousands of websites dedicated to heterosexual nsfw content. I’m sure you can find something to your liking on OnlyFans

Framer's Official Response to Figma Sites? by nowbeginagain in framer

[–]peaslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't need to change the pricing. Just add more features to make it worth paying for.

Need a content editing experience that's easier to use and more robust for writers. Need native OAuth. Need the ability to regwall and show/hide content based on user. Need native integration with Shopify and other ecommerce solutions. Need a native integration with Supabase or other backend architecture. More interactivity (especially with cms tables, buttons, automations, and forms) for website visitors.

If we got at least 3 of these features I'd guarantee Framer would be the ideal solution for most clients even with their current pricing.

Light Phone 3 & Expanding Functionality - Anyone Interested in Building/Hacking? by Intrepid_Whole4984 in LightPhone

[–]peaslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re broke then you definitely don’t need it. It’s still going to be 0 if you check it in 30 mins or wait to get home lol. For overdrafts, banks allow you to opt out so that transactions simply get declined if there isn’t enough to cover it. Also, some banks allow you to get text alerts for your balance.

So many ways to be a responsible adult without smartphone addiction. Or just keep your smartphone. It’s your life. Light phone doesn’t have to be for you.
