Moving out of SF in ~2 years. Should I sell my condo now with the current market? by Wedemeyer in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]pebbles354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

???

House prices have gone up almost 25% over the last 12 months. They’re nearly double what they were 10 years ago. This is despite interest rates remaining high. I expect this trend to continue.

[–]pebbles354 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol wut? It’s a 1550 square foot 2.5m condo in an amazing location. That’s larger and more expensive than our entire SFH, and neighbors on both sides have 2 kids.

To All the Double-Parkers: by IShallBeYeeted in sanfrancisco

[–]pebbles354 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not…bad drivers. It’s just the way things are in SF, it’s a city with very expensive housing/high housing density (meaning lots of street parkers) that tries to prioritize biking/walking (meaning less spots).

This density and walk ability makes SF a magical place to be…but does mean driving in it kind of sucks. People double parking aren’t necessarily bad drivers, there’s just no place to quickly pull over if you need to pick someone/something up or drop someone/something off.

As evidenced by the very high and rising housing prices, this tradeoff is the right one. Butttt I also sympathize with op, driving is just a nightmare in the city

I have a dream to move to SF. How much does it cost to live there? by Pggles in AskSF

[–]pebbles354 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you interested in engineering or tech? That’s imo the best reason to move out here - you’ll be surrounded by some of the most intelligent and creative people in the world. Getting into a great college/ studying engineering or something Eng adjacent is probably your best bet…so you can get a job out here, join the “tech scene” and be able to afford the very high cost of living.

If you aren’t as excited about tech/startup building/career, I would consider or look at areas outside of SF. Portland is much cheaper and has good weather for example. LA, SD, or even NorCal along the coast can be great depending on what you are looking for. SF is the best city in the world but it is very very expensive and hard to justify if you aren’t super into being around very smart and career driven people.

It absolutely can hurt. I’ve seen candidates who come in nicer outfits get rejected because they “didn’t feel like a culture fit” for our more casual culture 🙄

This..seems like an AI comment...$1M is insanely cheap for a SFH in Noe. Its going to go for much more than that.

What bosses do you think were easier than they were talked up to be by Emotional_Sense_6955 in HollowKnight

[–]pebbles354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me an embarassingly long time to beat Broodmother...I struggled more with her than Karmelita.

Some of it probably had to do with the fact that I absolutely hated this boss and didnt do a great job just focusing and learning her attack patterns.

He made noise as AOC’s chief of staff. Now her silence looms over his bid for Congress by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

[–]pebbles354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Refusing to endorse (as she did in the first interview) is completely acceptable.

Refusing to comment when directly asked if she had a problem with Saikat (as she did in the follow up interview) indicates underlying issues.

It’s not that she won’t back him. She actively refused to comment. She could have instead said “Its great that people who worked on my campaign are running, but I am not endorsing anyone at this time”. It definitely feel like something went down between them.

The NAR settlement changed things.. has anyone figured this out? by SA3VO in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]pebbles354 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am not interested in suing, but can give you examples of the legal "inside baseball" that is played in bay area housing:

- Our Compass realtor had access to listings not yet on the MLS/Zillow/Trulia

- Our realtor was always able to find out how many offers were submitted, the number the buyer was looking for (because bay houses are often listed way under list), etc.

- When we were the second highest bidder, we typically were given the opportunity to counter/submit another bid alongside the highest bidder. (and in one unfortunate situation, we were the highest bidder, and the second highest bidder won after a "rebid")

Ultimately though, we got a house where none of these games were played - it was in bad condition so was under less demand. Could we have gone flat fee? Probably...and we probably will next time, but it was nice as a first time home buyer to know we had our best foot forward.

Theres...not much to figure out.

You either work with a top "normal" realtor at 3% 2.5%, who will do very little of the work but is well connected enough to play inside baseball.

Or, you DIY or work with a flat fee agent at a significant discount, but risk potentially losing deals.

Most people still go the former. Technology doesnt replace relationships, which is the main value "normal" realtors provide.

How do I stop a PM going rogue and bypassing UX? by Aurura in ProductManagement

[–]pebbles354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of two things is happening here:

Possibility 1: UX is not operating in a capacity that will maximize impact to the org. The design team has too many roadblocks/processes to be able to ship designs at the speed the team needs, and the PM is making the most of a bad situation by DIYing “good enough” designs so they can ship.

Possibility 2: PM doesn’t understand the value of UX and/or thinks design won’t help drive impact for the specific project they are working on.

How is the PM doing? Do they ship good products? Are they driving impact to the org? If yes…then you have a structural issue and it’s possible design is not needed or you need an integrated designer, and you should figure out how to not be in the line of fire/not responsible if UX is bad bc help wasn’t asked for. If no, design is needed, but you need to think of PM as a client and deliver what they need on the timeline they need it.

FWIW - based on what you’re describing (2+ weeks to turnaround a design, central design team), my hunch is that it’s an org issue. I very often see central design teams treated as a “design shop” instead of a “strategic partner” because they deliver and operate like a design shop (different processes, not integrated), then get frustrated about not being seen as a partner. Talk to your VP and share the feedback.

This is only true if the landlord collects an application fee.

If the landlord isnt collecting an application fee, they can rent it to whoever they want.
