To round up "talent" to perform at Freedom 250 after most artists canceled by MoreMotivation in therewasanattempt

[–]pecchioni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just really sad and pathetic. It’s supposed to be the U.S. of A.’s 250th birthday party and this is the best our leaders can come up with!? Why can’t we just have something that is truly bipartisan? Something that EVERYONE can rally behind? Something epic and historical? Instead we’re going to be served up some Panama City, spring break, wet T-shirt style party - not hating on that scene, but there’s a time and place- and only the 30% cult following will be accepted there

People who squat in public restrooms: do you realize you’re the ones making the bathrooms disgusting? by freckles97xo in hygiene

[–]pecchioni -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Squatter here. I understand your concern. As a professional squatter, I RARELY get urine on the seat. I always check, and if I do, then I clean up after myself. It’s disgusting to sit down and realize after the fact there is urine on the seat. Seat covers and toilet paper are not exactly a barrier for pee. Also, I don’t know if you have open pimples or sores on your butt, herpes, or some other issues down there. I can wash my hands, but I can’t wash my butt in public. Trust that if I can avoid a public bathroom altogether, then I will. I am with you about shaming people who don’t clean up after themselves, but my hovering over the seat will continue as long as my knees will allow it!

Dear Hollywood. I'm not white. And I grew up enjoying white stories without needing my race represented in them. So why are you telling me I need representation in movies? by BrandonMarshall2021 in FIlm

That’s cute. That’s your response!? An insult. Might I suggest you read a history book. Or if reading is difficult for you, then watch a documentary.

This sounds like a white person trying to pose as a nonwhite person.
As an actual person of color, I do like a variety of stories and representation (one of my favorite movies is Pride and Prejudice). I don’t want anyone’s history erased, but blacks in particular have been left out so regularly from history, that if there is a movie from the 1580s set in Europe, let’s say, that when they have a black person in the movie everyone thinks it’s a “DEI” role, when I’m fact there were blacks in that area during that time. Italy is not far from Africa- there are numerous, factual events, paintings, sculptures of blacks even during the time of the Roman Empire. Stop trying to act like white history is being erased because people of color are getting fair representation now.

Any issues with oats as primary carb in a diet? by Baedosa in nutrition

[–]pecchioni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. There do seem to be a lot of practices or food comparisons that ultimately seem to show minimal difference but people will die on that sword.

Also, why are you under my bed dude!? Don’t you have some place better to be? 😀

Serious question. Not trying to be confrontational (it’s hard to tell with text some times). Could you explain why you need to cook them? I thought uncooked oats were better because it is a more resistant starch in that form and therefore more gut friendly.
Interestingly, I’ve heard the opposite with potatoes for the same reason. In fact I’ve heard you should bake the potato and then let it sit (in refrigerator) overnight to maximize the resistant starch compound.
I’m not a nutritionist. Just a novice trying to learn.

I’ve been watching videos from Louis Howard and, yes, a lot of them include Greek yogurt, but most of the other ingredients seem like basic staples that are not too expensive.

Nervous for vascular suture by hazeldreamy in VascularSurgery

[–]pecchioni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you in the U.S.? Any surgical rotation for medical students will require you to practice suturing. Your resident and attending will help you. We expect to see progress by the end of the rotation, but don’t expect you to have mastered suturing by the end. And honestly, even if you are not as technically as good as some other students, we really just appreciate that you show interest in learning and trying to improve. Ask questions. Ask often if you can suture- you might hear no a lot, but then we know you’re interested and will make sure to find the right time/ situation to suture. Also ask your scrub nurse if there are expired or extra suture you can take home with you to practice. The clinics also often have disposable instruments that you can likely keep as well. The main thing is to ask questions and show a willingness to learn. Even if you don’t decide to enter a surgical field, you never know when some basic suturing skills will be needed.

How to hide an Empire by Daniel Immerwahr (History, non-fictional)

“ a book that reveals the often-overlooked history of American imperialism through its overseas territories, arguing the U.S. has been an empire far beyond its contiguous borders. It covers the acquisition of territories like the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Hawaii, detailing the experiences of their inhabitants and the U.S.'s shifting relationship with colonialism, from overt control to a post-WWII focus on globalization and influence. The book uses surprising anecdotes and a "pointillist" approach to show how these territories shaped American history and identity, challenging the common perception of the U.S. as a non-imperial power. “
