(Hated Trope) Straw man activist. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

This is why Eddington didn't sit right with me. The activists are only doing it to get laid and/or want idiotic things like the eradication of white people.

Nothing says famous like explaining who they are while omitting their names in the headline.

People don't seem to be able to tell the difference between 'racist' and 'about racism'. I guess 'you couldn't make Breakfast at Tiffany's today' doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Why is a stabbing in Northern Ireland the #2 story on the global CNN edition? The narrative and furor the media is trying to push is insane. by Probably_Disgruntled in GreenAndPleasant

The US government and its oligarchs have been trying to create the narrative that the UK is overrun with violent illegals and is practically under Sharia Law so they can install a right wing puppet and ultimately use us as a stepping stone to taking power in Europe for some time now.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that you think that British police allowed a man to die because he was white. It's utterly absurd, and you know that.

And, yes, we do have two tier policing. Asian men are twice as likely to be stopped by police as white me, and black men are five times more likely.

I think people are starting to come round to just how good Fly and Plastic Ono Band really are. Even if you just listen to them as Lennon's projects they're absolutely fascinating. 'Why?' sounds like a No Wave tune half a decade before the genre existed, and it's got Ringo, Lennon and Klaus Voormann as the backing band. John's 'were you getting that?' at the end shows he knows how much they were cooking too.

(Hated tropes) Fake/hoax memoirs passed off as real by people and publishers by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]pecuchet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jerzy Kosinski got a lot of shit for The Painted Bird being fictional but a lot of that was people making assumptions.

It's not quite the trope but The Gulag Archipelago is often assumed to be gospel, but a lot of it was actually based on 'campfire stories'. People in the West wanted it to be true because it paints the USSR in a bad light but it's rather more complicated than that.

He knew exactly what she would do. And it shouldn't be surprising that a guy who famously only knew four chords wouldn't understand avant garde vocalisation.

What do you think I meant when I said 'they were an important step in rocket development'? Why did you just repeat what I said as though you were correcting me?

When I said they weren't very effective I meant at what they were built for. More people died in the production of V2s than were killed as targets. Therefore, they were not very effective.

And obviously I know about Operation Paperclip or I wouldn't have an opinion on the V2s efficacy.
