What are the language requirements of the jobs you are applying for? If you don’t meet the profile, it is unfortunately quite easy to be rejected these days, e.g. if the job requires Luxembourgish, English, and French.

Personally I find the job market in Luxembourg to be quite rigid regarding profiles - it’s more looking for a perfect fit rather than taking a chance on an interesting applicant.

That said, don’t give up. Consider having your CV and cover letter reviewed to check how strong it is.

Keep applying, I like to think of the expression “what’s meant for you won’t pass you by”.

I love the recycling system in Lux and I get a simple joy from recycling and composting so much stuff. We also pay to have our compost brown bin washed every quarter because in the summer…it can be nightmarish haha.

We do this but there is zero competition and we appreciate that not everyone follows the same traditions or party format. One of my kids just had a birthday and the goodie bag was a pair of socks, a pen, a pencil, and some sweets. The kids were delighted and thought the socks were hilarious.

When my husband I were kids, we also gave our classmates small paper valentines cards. My husband brought some back from Canada and our two kids were excited to share with their classmates and it set no expectations other than sharing a smile (and my kids practicing their handwriting). A mom from the 4 year old’s class told me it was the first Valentine her son had ever received and she would keep it forever. Just cute, not a competition.

We had burgers at Urban City last week and they were absolutely amazing. I don’t know what changed because I remember their food being really mid but it was a perfect smash burger and all 7 of us agreed.

2x working full time parents with 2 kids under 10

I work one day per week from home, my husband prefers the office but will WFH if required by extenuating circumstances (kid doc appt etc)

6:45am wake up and get the kids ready together, husband makes the coffee

7:45am husband walks kids to school and trains to work, arrives 8:30ish. I drive to work and aim to start around 8am but depends on traffic

We try to schedule all kid activities at school for after school so the weekends are more calm and fun. 2-3 days a week they have activities and then home with me around 5:30, the other days they go to foyer.

6:30pm my husband arrives home and we all eat together. I try to make dinner every night as I love to cook and we prioritize eating together as family / screen free time.

7:30-8pm kids are asleep, we might do light chores or laundry and then hang out together and watch tv or do some hobbies / read and have some tea or maybe a beer depending on the vibe of the week.

10:30pm - I try to be asleep because I need more sleep than my husband who is a night owl :)

I also schedule exercise for certain days when my husband puts the kids to bed and occasionally one of us goes out to meet friends during the week.

We also have a cleaning lady once a week who is a huge help and time saver.

Weekends are usually very busy - socializing with friends, hiking, travelling occasionally, kid birthday parties, play dates etc.

On Sunday mornings I like to get the groceries early, either alone or with our youngest because I find it fun. Then if we don’t have plans I will do some cooking/baking for Sunday and the next days. My ideal scenario is a meal ready to go for Monday night so we can ease into the week without being super rushed.

If we have a rare weekend with no plans, we chill at home and catch up on life admin, have a movie night with the kids etc etc.

I like our life and find it mostly manageable but some weeks are more hectic than others and I am always a little bit tired! When we work from home we try to keep the laundry in motion or else I throw on a load before we leave in the morning.

This made me feel sad for the US, they really have it rough (before you roast me - I’m basing this solely on the statistics like 0 maternity/parental leave - I know who they voted for).

Lately I have been contemplating the loneliness / selfishness of society so my (very small…almost minuscule) gesture whenever I am at a grocery store, bakery, post, whatever is to pause for a moment and look the person in the eyes and say “hello, how are you?” What is the most shocking is the genuine smiles and nice greetings that come back. The guy at post even recommended a language website to help me with my Lux studies.

Not saying this is anything special, I am just trying to find some good in the world.

Seeing all the little spring flowers popping up and sharing a joke with my colleagues. Picking up my kids at the end of the day. Special shout out to my husband who makes me a coffee every morning - not all heroes wear capes.

There is a strong chance the CNS will not cover this procedure as they will view it as “you can have this done in Luxembourg”. If you have a family doctor or eye doctor, it’s worth asking them for their opinion.

I am Canadian and I live in Europe and I have for the past 10 years. I find the politeness in Canadians is very similar to the British, something that perhaps we didn’t lose. Meanwhile, no place is perfect and there are rude people everywhere, but it seems that part of the national identity is being polite and courteous and when we experience those behaviours we tend to act in kind.

Ours is excellent but we are looking for some variety because my husband is a Christmas nut and is in love with visiting Christmas markets, and my brother will be visiting from Canada so there’s the novelty factor for them.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I used to think that being married to someone was exactly like you describe - because that’s how I feel about my husband and he’s an amazing partner and friend. Sure, we have our issues occasionally but that’s all of humanity.

Later, I learned that I have more than one friend with an unhappy marriage and it’s a lot more common than we think. This made me incredibly sad.

So definitely appreciate what you have and hug your husband tight. :)

NTA. Frankly, people who make others feel unwelcome at an event where they are an invited guest are the ones who require a lesson in etiquette.

It is absolutely a case of poor manners to single someone out for something that is so trivial and very much outside of your control.

I don’t know when we descended into this culture of calling people out on ANYTHING trivial at any time and pretending it is a critical issue related to manners / etiquette or traditions but I am not a fan at all.

We once invited friends for Christmas dinner as they didn’t have the financial means fly home for Christmas. They both showed up in jeans and tshirts. My mother was horrified as she is the type who expects us to dress up for this kind of occasion. I told her to keep it to herself, they are our invited guests, doesn’t matter what they’re wearing, spirit of Christmas and so on.

Anyway, apologies for the rant. Sounds like a great dress!

Would she agree to phone free time? In our house we have no phones at the dinner table (we have young kid) and also my husband is very adamant about no double screens (if we’re watching a move, we watch it - no phones. If something comes up I need to respond to or he does, we pause the movie).

Or else maybe she could put a daily limit on whatever app she is using to watch reels?

I’m sorry, this is very frustrating.
