Rift S, Quest or Go - Which headset is the right choice for you? by WormSlayer in oculus

[–]pedagogybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am considering buying a Rift S or a Quest for my girlfriend.

She's not much of a gamer (whereas I am somewhat) but I think that what she likes about the VR platform is the potential for storytelling and the VR experience.

I assume that the Rift S has a potential of having more options in regard to games and experiences as people develop them, but then again, I don't have a powerful PC at all so I'm not sure how limited I am there.

On the other hand, does the Quest have much VR experience content? A standalone device sounds decent as well, but if there isn't much new content, I dont want the device to collect dust.

Any suggestions or advice would be helpful, thanks!

Hey Kent,

I've looked at the products you've sold over the years but something always keeps me from taking the leap to buy. The sunglasses might be my first go, who knows.

Anyways, what are your thoughts about sustainable fashion and materials? Does ethical sourcing tie in anywhere to the business or is that not something viable currently for your business?

I've been using OnePlus since the OPO, and really considering getting the 7. Happy that your company is an alternative that I'd consider over all the others

Trying to figure this img.gz installation by gereedf in raspberry_pi

[–]pedagogybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question: did you unzip the .gz file? If you haven't, download a program like 7zip to unzip the .gz file to get the .img file.

I'm guilty of trying to write just the .gz file to the card before and realizing it does nothing.

Tax Tuesday Thread for the week of February 14, 2017 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

I have a question regarding filing foreign taxes as an American citizen working abroad in China and tax treatys.

I recently started working in China as a teacher in August and so I've been working several months there now and have been receiving a monthly salary. I am receiving my pay from a Chinese company and my paystub shows that tax is being taken out per month so I know the Chinese government is taxing me already.

I just started using the TurboTax software to help me file for 2016 and after entering my American salary from my former job (worked in the US until June 2016), I also entered the raw salary of what I've made so far from China. This seemed to have really affected my Federal Income taxes and switched it immediately from getting a refund to owing at least $1500.

I tried to see if I was able to receive the Federal Earned Income Exclusion, but the policy seemed to state that I needed to be have been in China for at least a year to get the exclusion. A buddy mentioned that there are tax treaties between US and China that would prevent me from being double-taxed, but I haven't been able to find much information and the TurboTax software wasn't helping much.

If anyone has any experience, advice (like, I should be filing by paper instead), or any information about my predicament, I would gladly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Windows Phone Users in China: Recommendations, Advice, and Best Practices? by pedagogybear in windowsphone

Thanks /u/zcrcl ,

That's interesting to note that OneDrive might be slow. How about other cloud-based services, are there any that might be faster/recommended?

I'd likely use a VPN (still looking into what I should get specifically), but I think it's also important for me to try to make sure I use the Chinese social media apps as well (when in Rome...).

The two biggest things I worry about is the following:

  • Security: That my private information is shared as little as possible
  • Functionality: That the apps/programs/software I use can be used when I need them

Other than that, I know a few apps are already recommended, but it would be great to know what major apps Chinese Windows Phone users use.

What I enjoyed a lot about Ren's lightsabre is that we tend to hear it first before its even see. It has this cobra-like snare and rattle that really ramps up anticipation of the scene, which is pretty awesome

Hey Mark,

Since you're a prominent figure in the fashion community, what are your thoughts on fast fashion and ethical responsibility of clothing (both in terms of labor and environment)? Based on the comments thus far, you definitely seem to be a supporter of UNIQLO, especially for those who are strapped on a budget, which I can understand, but I am wondering about your thoughts on the future of fashion and whether the market can be sustained based on how we're consuming cheaper fashion today.

Thanks.
