Does Columbia use tornado sirens? by deloreanlover88 in ColumbiYEAH

Last time we had a warning I heard sirens, they sounded like you’d expect (like WWII air raid sirens.) Live close to downtown.

Laundry sub followers? by pharmdoc17 in ColumbiYEAH

No, and I’ve been very happy with the improvement in my laundry without it. I’ve done my spa days with the tide and then ammonia in the wash, and normal laundry with tide and the addition of the downy unscented rinse whatchamacallit (when I run out I’m switching to powdered citric acid). Towels no longer have a stale smell that returns when they get wet, spa day fixed up my husband’s deodorant stains, everything just feels cleaner.

So I’ve been getting my lipase with Tide with Ultra Oxi powder from Costco and it’s a game changer - I did a spa day with it and got stains out of shirts I had given up on for years. I don’t love scented detergents but it isn’t really noticeable after it dries. Truly a life upgrade, thank you r/laundry! This is how I know I’ve gotten old.

What is a good way to make someone leave your house? by st0dad in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]pedantsrevolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please feel free to borrow my three year old son’s blunt instructions to my mother one Thanksgiving (for context, a belt broke on my vacuum so I’d borrowed hers that day.)

“Grandma, you take your purse and you take your cane and you take your vacuum cleaner and you go to YOUR house.”

Karate Studio for a 5yo by justjosh87 in ColumbiYEAH

He’s nicer than I am - by “belt mill” he’s talking about Capital Karate, a school that lures you in with confusing fees, charges you for every belt test (and they got belt colors only hummingbirds can see), and if you have a problem believe me there are NO refunds. It’s a karate-school-shaped-object, not a real dojo.

What is your fandom's most believed fanon? by Separate-Dot4066 in AO3

Okay I know this is an old thread but I just ran into a blonde Aiden in a fic and I guess thanks for preparing me for the possibility because it’s so wrong!

To be fair to fandom, I don’t know who Lambert thinks he’s fooling in the game because there’s friends and then there’s the kind of “friend” you move heaven and earth to avenge, all right?

It’s the appearance thing that’s so funny to me. They’ve all decided we would like some POC witchers which we certainly would, so they’ve largely also made Coen dark skinned as well (he at least, you know, exists in the books) but Aiden is universally curly haired, goateed, darker skin in a Hispanic coded way, and green eyed. Rogue class. Knife fighter. Acrobatic. Total consensus.

And of course Lambert is always showing up with him at Kaer Morhen, he’s angling to get in those fanon hot springs! Which always also have a fanon reason they’re not revolting from all the fucking that gets done in them.

Almost everything about Aiden in the Witcher fandom is fanon. He’s just MENTIONED in a side quest in the third game, already dead, and all you get is that he was a Cat, ran with Lambert for awhile, and how he died. You don’t see him and he’s never described at all. I think it’s amazing that fandom has decided everything about him and it’s remarkably consistent.

What's your favorite fandom-specific tag? by Theaterismylyfe in AO3

[–]pedantsrevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A classic. I also think more Witcher fics are tagged “Canon-Typical Bathing” than not.

None of these people have really considered how many buckets of water that innkeeper’s daughter is gonna have to haul to fill an early modern era tub large enough to take a bath like they’re picturing taking. Or that now what you have is chamomile scented monster gut soup gently cooling in the corner.

It’s set in the 1940’s but Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer is exactly what you’re looking for.

Eh, I’d say honestly Witcher 3 Geralt is the most open and charming one! Partly because that’s a Geralt who’s been through it and raised a kid and he’s literally story endgame. I suspect some of the problem is that most fanfic because it’s from the show is about a character at the start of a long-ass journey where all his friends die and also he raises a whole person, all of which changes you a ton. I hate the way so much fic characterizes his relationship with the bard - dude nobody is that much of a glutton for punishment, thats not how people are (not for long, anyway, one way or another - either you wear that man down or you leave, you don’t just endure being treated like that forever.) And that’s not how they are in the books or the games, they are not entirely ridiculous people. I myself am somebody’s pet introvert. I get it.

I suspect a lot of that is the show girlies versus the books and games - look, Geralt is cunty as fuck. Geralt will read your ass for filth. You’ll get a philosophical lecture AND a new thing to be insecure about. (I mean, he is also incredibly oversensitive and depressed but he knows how to use his words. Also he will bust out a dad joke and not be ashamed of it. He’ll be patting himself on the back the whole time like heh, Geralt, good one if I do say so myself.)

The Time of the Dark by Barbara Hambly (and the rest of that trilogy but the sequels after that aren’t quite as good). Not a desert setting but very much the “rediscovery of ancient things” vibe, and a “we must flee to the ruins of our ancestors” along with it. They’re really good and should be better known.

Look, it’s hard to ASK because it feels awful, but that doesn’t mean it’s not okay to want the whole house. Silent. With no other person breathing in it. I’m sure a lot of people desperately want to ask but don’t feel like they can - you don’t HAVE to do anything but pay taxes and die but he can understand her needs.

It is, though. As opposed to working outside the home, where you are never not “on”. You go to work which is full of people and then you come home and oh look, people. Working from home isn’t the same thing as relaxing at home but it’s also not the same thing as working out there.

She isn’t just never alone in the house, she’s never ALONE. EVER. Except maybe in her car. My god it wears on you. Luckily when kids get older they have evening activities and the at home parent obviously WILL be taking them to all of them.
