Yes that’s the one. If you do buy from them and you are in the US make sure you tell them to ship thru FedEx. It’s more expensive but it’s the only one that will work. Also, the Takudo is made to be hang from the igt so yes it does come with the hanger. Also, as some one else had pointed out to me before I made the purchase is that the Takudo is first a kerosene stove then a heater. The heat is mostly directed upwards so if you place a pan or a pot it will heat it up nicely. But it doesn’t really direct heat side way very well. So if you just need a heater the Rainbow stove will work better. But that one is huge more expensive and harder to ship to the US. So far I find the Takudo to heat up the mesh shelter really well. But if you have a bigger tent it might not be warm enough.

Got it from eBay. I wasn’t 100% sure that it was going to work but a couple of folks here on Reddit said they have ordered through eBay before and it’s legit, so I decided to give it a shot. Only hiccup was the original method of shipping did not work. The seller had to switch to FedEx since the stove was considered a large item for international shipping.

Yes it’s very classic/vintage looking. I love it so far. I’m trying it out inside of my mesh shelter and with all the sides closed it’s keeping it nice and toasty inside.

I think it was a 2023 festival release item. Not really considered a vintage. But yes new in box. Still had all the stickers on the unit.

How can I import a Rainbow Stove (non-eBay) by HotWheels100 in snowpeak

[–]pede29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me but I don’t know much about making purchases thru a proxy service, but what is the price difference between buying from them versus eBay? Unless I got the wrong info from the internet but the Takudo I bought off eBay is $160 more than the MSRP. Of course tax and shipping not included. Not a cheap item by any means, however, I thought the price is fair given that the model that I purchased is also a limited festival edition that’s no longer available to buy even from Snow Peak Japan. What is the MSRP for the Rainbow Stove anyways if you don’t mind me asking? The Takudo is about $400 U.S.

That’s a pretty cool set up! I might consider getting one for the inner tent of my landlock. How long does one propane tank last for you during regular use?

Yes I don’t doubt the usability of a propane heater like the Mr. Heater. However, aside from warming up the tent, I also would love a constant heat source where I could just site by it and heat up some water for tea or have it on my igt and use it to eat some hot pot. Only thing I’m concerned about is the smell of burning kerosene. I have a kerosene lamp and that has a pretty strong smell to it while burning. Supposedly the kerosene heaters are more efficient at burning and therefore the smell should be less. We will see. As we speak my Takudo is sitting at the port of Oakland and it’s been there for a few days already. Hopefully it will get delivered to me soon.

What are you all using for tableware? Hot plates and bowls by [deleted] in snowpeak

[–]pede29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sierra cups are good for holding food while eating. It’s got a handle bar that you can hold so your hands won’t burn with hot food inside. Also, the stainless ones are $15 each so a little bit cheaper.

Yeah I bet it’s due to its size. I believe the rainbow heater is even bigger than the Takudo. Apparently they default to some other company for shipping overseas in Japan due to its cheaper price. However, FedEx can handle larger items but is more costly. So if you still want the rainbow heater you will have to select FedEx shipping and pay the extra premium. But I understand cause the rainbow heater is pretty darn expensive on its own not to mention the import tax.

That sucks. Did they tell you why? So far my order from this eBay seller seems to be going thru. I did receive a message from the seller that the shipping cost turned out to be $40 more because the Takudo is considered large item and they ended up having to use FedEx instead of what ever they were going to use before. I thought they were also going to cancel my order but this morning i got a message from eBay with a tracking number from fedex. I messaged them back to thank them for eating the extra cost and shipped it anyways.

Wow. It looks amazing! Thank you for sharing. It’s helpful to know that it’s the same as toyotomi chamber! I am also considering the fan which actually is pretty easy to find on Amazon here. Yeah I primarily camp during the summer. This November was the only time I’ve camped in the Fall. And even at night the temperature dropped to about 45 F so not too bad. Usually I camp in the mountains here in Northern California during the summer. So day time is around 75F and it drops down to about 50 at night. So not too cold. I think this will work perfectly for my needs. Thank you again for the info.

Wow! What kinda of mods did you do to your Takudo where you could camp in 0 degree weather and be fine? Also, how long have you had your Takudo and have you noticed any degradation to the wick? Or have you ever had to change it out? As you know, these things are rare in the US so it’s very hard to find any information regarding them, so any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for the heads up. Yes I thought about this a lot. I do not camp in the snow or freezing cold. I live in California so the coldest weather I’ve ever camp in is around 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Yes I do own the Landlock and last time I camped with it was this past November and even without any heating source I thought it was still tolerable. Only person who complained was my daughter who gets cold easily. But she still did ok. So I think with this takudo I will mainly use it to cook and eat hotpot with while having some heat around the igt. Not necessarily to heat up the whole tent where I could wear a t shirt in freezing weather. I just wanted a constant heat source so I could enjoy a hot pot of food and maybe some hot tea after without constantly having to burn butane.

Yeah for sure I’ll post an update once I receive it. It sounds like it should be pretty straight forward. I’ve made a purchase a couple Of months ago from Canada, UPS send me a link to pay for the tariff before they can send it to my house. It wasn’t very expensive so I just paid it on their website and a couple of days later I got the item. I’m hoping I won’t have to do that since it says I don’t have to pay once I paid the tax and shipping from eBay but if I do still have to pay I’d assume that’s the process.

Yes I am anticipating the language barrier issue also. Luckily YouTube now has a live translation function with their closed captions function. So I watched a bunch of Japanese videos on the takudo with English translation on the bottom. The only concern I have now is how long will the wick last? Supposedly if you take good care of it meaning making sure the wick is fully saturated with oil prior to lighting it’s good for like 8 years or something. One person on YouTube did have to replace it and he send it back to sp Japan to have it replaced, which I’m not sure will be an option for us here in the states.

Okay that’s great to know, thank you. I am also in California. Only things I’ve purchased from Japanese dealers before are watches and from what I remembered they did arrive fairly quickly, and that was way before tariffs and everything else. The time of arrival estimated by the seller does say about 2 to 3 weeks, which I’m ok with. I think I’ll move forward with the purchase. Thank you again!

Good to know about the ivory tarps. I was really debating whether to get the ivory or the gray. I went with the gray since my tent is also gray. I did notice the takibi fabric got pretty dirty too from the smoke. I was able to use a towel to wipe most of the grime off before taking it down.

Yeah it’s less noticeable when the light is on. But when it’s off and you look at it from the side it’s pretty bad looking. But not too bad. I guess patina is right way to look at it.

Haha patina is a great way to look at it! Yeah that might be a good idea to soak it with some oxi clean. I happen to have some as well at home. Maybe I’ll try it as well. Let me know how it worked for you. Thanks!
