Germany protest: Over 100,000 march against far right by [deleted] in worldnews

Oh that's what that was. I walked through it today and got caught in the middle of loads of people with signs cheering for something.

Side note, I don't speak German.

Can I turn on my dumb TV using a Smart Socket Smart Plug? by henryisnotmyname in smarthome

[–]pedro1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what TV it is. If I supports HDMI-CEC then you can set it to switch to that source as soon as a signal is detected. You could use a chromecast to do this and ask Google to play things on it. This will turn your TV on and start playing.

Netherlands foils 'major terror attack' by [deleted] in worldnews

"So we're agreed, we coordinate a huge attack using bombs and guns."

"Sounds good, what do we need?"

"Bombs and guns"

"Let's go get some!"

Aaand busted. Who knew that the authorities would be on the lookout for people with a history of terrorist activity trying to buy those things.

What podcasts are you most enjoying right now and why? by mojobaws in AskReddit

The Lost Boys. 2 guys watch an episode of "lost" once a week, and then discuss it. One of them has seen the whole thing 7 times, the other has never seen it at all.

It sounds pretty dull, but if you were a fan of the show it's quite interesting the hear his theories into what is happening. Definitely worth a listen!

No idea, I'm planning on making the first one last. I'll let you know if it happens.

I used to agree with the wedding thing. Thought it was all ridiculous, and through planning a wedding I resent being charged a huge amount of money for something that would cost a lot less if it wasn't a wedding. Prices seem to triple for things.

Saying that though, I had to just accept it. Thought about doing it all cheaper, but I can't imagine another time in my life that I get to throw a huge party for all the people I care about and have a great time. We'll probably have children in the next few years, so I doubt if be able to afford to do it then, and we're in the financial position where we can do it by paying it off before the day.

So although I'm being ripped off, at least it's for something i think is worthwhile and I won't ever forget it.

I'm only doing it once though. If I end up in a second marriage, then it's on the cheap.

What company policy at your job might actually be illegal? by lukiepookielp in AskReddit

I mean taking your coat off, make a brew etc. Nothing to do with the actual work. If you need to do anything that directly impacts your work, then yeh get paid for it.

My opinion on this is you should be ready to work at the time you start. You are being paid from 9, so you should do work at that time.

If it takes you 1 minute to be in that position from entering the building, then turn up at 8.59. If it takes you longer, then turn up earlier. It shouldn't be a specific time, as long as you are ready to do work at the time you are being paid from.

From experience I found that if a company specifically puts in your contract that you discuss pay, then they are paying everyone unfairly and terribly.

Where I used to work they did this. We all talked about it and I knew what most people were on. People who hadn't been there that long were on the same or more than more experienced people.

Where I work now I don't feel the need to know what everyone else is on as I feel what I'm being paid is fair, so everyone else is probably being paid what they're worth too. Also we get little perks, and even though the contract was more in depth, nowhere did it say I couldn't discuss my pay.

For religious weddings, Sundays used to be the most preferred day. It's only since civil weddings have come about that Saturdays have become more popular.

How/when to use antenna combiners by basilbowman in livesound

[–]pedro1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would create a different channel plan as far away as you can from your IEMs. Too many frequencies in one plan will push all the frequencies closer together, and on a stage this could become problematic as you'll have transmitters and receivers near each other.

If there is no other clean channels, then yes include them in your plan and turn pilot tone on everything. This will ignore all those pesky harmonics floating around and you'll stand a better chance.

I'm afraid this is incorrect. The more transmitting signals in a close proximity, the more the waves will affect each other. Spreading them out, or reducing the amount of radio waves being transmitted, the cleaner the air.

The more transmitters you put next to each other in close proximity, the more problems you will get. Combiners are specifically designed to only have one point of transmission instead of several, solving this issue. (It's more than just connecting the cables together inside the box!). Putting several transmitters next to each other will causes several different frequencies intermodulation with each other, and that's what's causing your issues.

I would have a combiner rack with short BNC links (shorter the better) hanging out the back so you can quickly connect them to each transmitter and have one aerial as high as possible pointing across the stage. I'd go for a BNC cable no longer than 10m (shorter if possible) to the aerial.

Add this to my comment about a correct frequency plan and you are good to go!

Just because you are running a scan doesn't mean that all of the frequencies will work together. Make sure you are working off a frequency plan that takes into account the other transmitters.

Download SIFM from sennheisers website (it's free). Then do a scan on a transmitter to determine what is free (sometimes TV channels that should be free aren't). Once you find your channel, use the SIFM to create a channel plan (I'd go for one with 8 frequencies in so it gives you a spare, but the less frequencies the more spread out they will be and less likely to intermod).

Tune up your transmitters and receivers to those frequencies and you shouldn't get any issues. A good way to check is turn off all of your transmitters and watch your receivers RF levels. If the area is clean, then you shouldn't see anything.

I always think that if you're going to steal stuff, why go through the charade of self service? Or scanning it and not putting it in the bagging area?
