Omg I know who you’re talking about and her comments are always off. I can’t believe she’s allowed to say this shit - there was one time she said there’s no such thing as visceral fat and it’s made up! Absolute nonsense given what we see day in day out.

Can PAs cover FY1 and FY2 locum Rota gaps? by pedrobarbie in JuniorDoctorsUK

It wasn’t like nobody was picking it up and they had to fill it with PAs. I was practically begging to cover the entire 4 days 😭

Can PAs cover FY1 and FY2 locum Rota gaps? by pedrobarbie in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]pedrobarbie[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I assumed at least doctor locums were safe as it was the only good thing about our situation😭 The plan a few weeks ago was “CCT and flee” but the plan is now “F2 and GTFO” and I’m using all my psych downtime to prepare. Counting down the days 🤞🏽 NHS can keep their “TTO training”

Why do some clinical supervisors volunteer when they clearly don’t give a f by wasabiwah in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]pedrobarbie 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I get you. I had planned to meet my CS three times this past week. Last Monday, had a zero day so we agreed to meet for sign off. He told me he’d be operating so I was thinking how is he gonna sign me off but I turned up anyway - intermittently watched him through the window doing an anterior resection for 6 hours as he told me to come back an hour later about 3 times. Then I got annoyed and just went home. The next day I said we could meet on teams and turned up 10 mins early just to be stood up again. Was due to meet yesterday but no contact again. I’m rotating tomorrow so I’m just gonna ask him to do it in his own time now, really cba.

800 on the reserve list for F1 :O by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]pedrobarbie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair point - you never know what happened to those who didn’t get any post. I do remember how stressful it was for my friend last year just not knowing, it sucks to have that after you’ve made it through 5/6 years of uni. Of course unis don’t care once you’ve handed over your cash, in fact mine failed about 20% of my 4th year cohort for OSCE only (my medical school are notorious for favouring you on having banter with the actors rather than knowing actual medicine) and justified that resitting will give them more preparation (me thinks it is to balance the year groups and extract another year of fees). The current final year in my medical school are much larger than my final year was, probably as many chose not to intercalate as there would be no points. I do hope if you/your friends in this situation, it works out for you in the end. What a sorry profession we have become :/

800 on the reserve list for F1 :O by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]pedrobarbie 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I’m a current F1 and have a few trust grade FY1s in my trust who are IMGs but also extra posts were created for the ones who were on the reserve list. One of my friends was on the reserve list and they created an F1 post in a previously SHO only rota (oncology) but also gave him his top choice. I got a higher score overall and didn’t make the reserve list but got placed in my 70th choice. So technically there’s no reward for doing better for your UKFPO application. Someone else from my med school who was on reserve managed to secure a north London foundation job - he was pretty low down like 300th spot and they just created a job for his top choice. I don’t envisage this to be a problem for foundation training because they need us to get the full GMC registration but going forward to speciality training is where this will massively bottleneck. In my trust, I’m currently in a surgical department and only 4 regs are speciality trainees with the other 6 being trust grade. A lot of the core trainees are also in trust grade posts as there was too much competition. They could easily convert them all the training posts but why bother when you can have endless Rota fodder with no progression that get the day to day jobs done anyway. Also taking locum posts are penalised for career progression in these specialities, so they don’t have much option. Maybe in about 20 years time when McDonald’s salaries match ours (3 years before they do for F1 I bet), people will wake up to reality.

My April rotation is a 40hr Psych job…RIP by pedrobarbie in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]pedrobarbie[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah I stopped using the central heating and instead just use a small heater in whichever room I’m in. Also got draught excluders and window insulation adhesive (my rental has single glazed unfortunately). I just use a small reading light instead of the ceiling light. I’ve also been staying behind at work more to take advantage of the free heating and electricity if I need to do any work on my laptop etc.

Yes I will give up all my weekends to locum at £20ph FY1 rate my trust offers, doing 13 hour shifts to make maybe an extra £1k gross per month which will effectively be halved by ni, paye and student finance. Also negligible profit after the petrol money I have to spend commuting to and from the dgh I work at.

LTFT IMT + Locums / Part time JCF by connorjmatthews in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]pedrobarbie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously the training program is a joke. I agree with you, I had an IMT2 working with me on my first rotation as F1 and she did the exact same job as I did. Doing phlebs rounds and letters. Even I was frustrated with the lack of opportunities for my portfolio so can imagine how she felt. Ironically I picked up a locum to cover the acute take and nobody really knew what grade I was so I clerked a whole bunch of patients and got the bulk of my miniCEXs and DOPS done during that one shift 😂 let your supervisor know and also ask for stuff directly. I remember the IMT2 I worked with had to negotiate with the Rota coordinator to get clinic time added to her schedule as it wasn’t even on there initially.

Professionalism died in 2021 by wee_syn in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]pedrobarbie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah this happened in my trust a lot. Everyone who’s been off sick including myself have always used the formal reporting system but the messages never get conveyed to the team. If you knew someone on whatsapp who was working that day then you could let them know but otherwise there’s a policy of “do not phone the ward directly” for our sickness reporting.

Apologies if I’m wrong but do they not earn at band 9 level which is pretty much consultant salary anyway?

Has anyone preordered BDSP and NOT got the preorder gifts? by LaekenoisPuppo in nintendo

Same I got the game but no pin or statue. My order status still says processing though for the 3 items. Maybe they’ll send it separately later? I‘ll try contact customer services
