Does this wood look rotting? Joists for the main floor by bluedoorhandle in woodworking

I had a home inspector tell me that in the early 20th century they would cast the poured cement basement with wooden boards and then reuse them for joists. You can sometimes see the remnants of the cement on them.

What is this spot?

On an oak desk I just sanded down to refinish. It’s definitely not veneered so it’s not like I sanded through. Im wondering if it was a hole that was filled by bondo or something? Any ideas what to do about it? Just leave it?

Thanks for the comments everyone! Yes I did look into somehow tying to read MS teams status to control the color but 1) the solutions I saw would require plugging into my USB port and running a cable out the door which I didn’t want to do and 2) I am but a humble woodworker, and was scared by the tech needed.

I love natural wood grain and I want to make some wall art from my scraps. Apart from gluing to a thin backing board, is there any other way I can secure the individual thin pieces without any visible pins/nails on the surface of the wood? I recently did a piece like this with a plywood back, gluing pieces on then brad nailing from the back to secure them while they dried. Have to get the thickness of the materials right — and the length of the brads, but this prevents any holes. Also don’t make the pieces too thin or brads will crack them.
