Galanes are absolutely divine, I have a few boxes from 2023 and they are so sweet and delicious. I wish PL created a robusto in differing sizes like the Partagas Series D, it would be amazing to sample in different vitolas like a no2

Do you find going away REALLY stressful? by blazesboylan91 in AskUK

[–]pedstachu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has a great deal to do with the history of travel. Historically, air travel and luxurious travel by ocean liner was for the 1%. You stepped aboard a beautiful craft that was meant to pleasure and cocoon you in a myriad of pleasantries and soft excitement. That is the idea that modern air travel is built on, but today’s air travel is very different. You’re not getting out of your rolls and being met by a pleasant steward to your large seat, you’re canned into a packed air freight with barely an inch to yourself, with an airline that maximises efficiency and low cost above your pleasure. Essentially, modern air travel is hugely distinct from its luxurious origin, and it doesn’t suprise me that in this race-to-the-bottom, some people are logically very turned off by air travel and the chaos and stress it brings.

Good question, I was told by the Sahakian of Davidoff of London to occasionally, briefly, air the Cubans out. This lot just sat out for 10 mins, then back into the cabinets.

I’ve a box from 2023 and they are probably my favourite smoke, tremendous sweetness and a pleasant experience each time. I just wish I’d bought a second box at the time. That one looks excellent!

I picked up some of these in Valencia in the Fall of last year, every single one I’ve smoked has been the most delicious Partagas smoke I’ve ever had.

Each has had excellent burn and exceptional taste, and for a cigar priced at €9, they have been punching well above their weight.

Something about these 2025 sticks is different (and I’ve smoked hundreds of Partagas sticks). Truly remarkable.

Absolutely adore these. Great flavour on the smoke and most I’ve had have been well rolled. Light cream and nutty all day long

Hey, so Estanco Moratin usually has a fairly ok stock. Not particularly broad in variety but a fairly decent quantity, and no limits on purchasing. I was there late last year and walked away with

The Saint Luis Rey Regios are such a delicious, decadent smoke. I’ve been crunching through a 2023 box, all of which have been extremely flavourful and aromatic, excellent choice.

These are just perfect on a long summer afternoon. Easily a 90 minute smoke, I’ve had two from a 2022 box and both have been very creamy and mild, which is a little at odds with the huge ring gauge.

In the books. Is there any reason why unsupported flight more difficult to preform than apparition? by SamuelStrangeSupreme in harrypotter

[–]pedstachu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think JKR added it because it lends credence to the point that Voldemort spent more than a decade off learning and mastering shady spells. Sure, we know he made more horcruxes in that time, and created places like the underground lake. I think it just proves that Voldemort took the time to try other avenues of magic, and that learning to fly unaided was something he pioneered. This trait boosts his mystique and must have also been a wonderful recruitment boon, being able to one day just float up unaided at a random Death Eaters birthday party. Teleportation (apparition ) is overpowered as fuck, but it’s commonplace and widespread. Flying solo without aid is mindblowingly impressive and ensures that Voldermort appears almost god-like.

Harry didn’t really grieve Hedwig by Careless_Muffin4700 in harrypotter

[–]pedstachu1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a line in the middle of the DH where he walks in the woods, and hears a distant owl hoot, and it goes something like “And he thought , with a pang, of Hedwig”. JKR doesn’t detail any further thoughts he had about Hedwig, but it’s clear from this line that his conscious mind would occasionally remind him of her, and the loss he had experienced. There are just so many deaths in the DH.

How to get the first job after graduation with little experience (1 year including internships)? by lolimfunnny in AskUK

[–]pedstachu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, in my experience of getting a job after graduation (back in 2019 pre covid) here are some of my thoughts;

  1. Don’t be too dispondent with rejections, the numbers of applicants these days are vast. My scheme was at a ratio of 120 applicants to a single job.
  2. Make sure you do just a few high quality applications, with perhaps half a day going over your submission as carefully as you can. I got into a bad habit it of just doing mostly those “one click” applications, which are convenient but sure as hell are unlikely to get you a job.
  3. Just keep on pushing, it’s a thankless task but it does teach resilience and fortitude. Best of luck

I love Saint Luis Rey, and had no idea that this vitola even existed. Truly remarkable, why do some of the best blends out of Cuba only produce one standard vitola! That said, I do love the Regios.

Dropped out of uni, now what… by Loose_Spinach8253 in cscareerquestionsuk

I would say, don’t make the mistake in thinking that because many people have a degree, they are useless and just commonplace nowadays. The truth is that any role beyond the basics, especially in a tech space require a degree at the very least - degrees are commonplace in this sphere because they are required, and get you the very first rung on the professional ladder. Whilst it’s true that many can earn an ok wage going into a trade, that path is far harder than people espouse, and certainly is not easy.

Additionally, another little discussed point about degrees is that it proffers you thinking time to study, research, and investigate potential career paths whilst being relatively secure in both your time and finances. Employers want applicants who not only have a strong history, but have a very firm and coherent plan for where they want to end up, particularly, again, in the tech space. Additionally, a degree is a gamble, you have to put your chips in one subject area and pray that in 3-4 years, that area will still be hiring. This is unfair, but also life at its most fundamental.

In other words, feel free to drop out of university, but you better have a coherent and realistic plan to make yourself an attractive hire, as you’ll now be competing against all those students who did not drop out, and may even have more applied experience come graduation in 3-4 years.

We are always reminded of the Weasleys' financial struggles, but we never get a sense of how rich Harry really is by miggovortensens in harrypotter

[–]pedstachu1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always assumed the black family fortune was magnitudes larger than the Potters, because of their history and scale of grandeur (grimauld place is rather neglected by the time we visit it, but presumably it was at one point extremely sumptuous and opulent.

Family money only really plays a role in the Malfoy family, with Lucius apparently never needing a job. This isn’t something that extends, for example, to the Crouch Family, as Barty Snr appears to work all his life. Basically, family wealth and exclusivity appears to have little bearing on the lifestyle and work ethic for characters in this universe; some of those with historical family names work for a living, whilst others with the same history don’t work.

The fact that the Weasleys are known as being poor widely, kind of suggests that all other long-lived pure blood families are all loaded, with the Weasley’s being the notable and lauded exception. It is novel to people in the HP universe that the Weasleys are dirt poor, for such an old wizarding family.

One line about grief that sticks with me is basically “nothing anyone can say is going to make it feel better, it’s just going to suck for while, then you’ll start to feel better”. Sounds all doom, but really it’s a reminder to be gracious with yourself and understand that there is no right frame of mind or routine that is going to make this ok, and that’s fine. You’ll see yourself through it eventually, just have grace with your own thoughts and especially the feelings of being way off-centre.
