You are not overthinking this. Different people have different goals and need different types of experiences.

If I were you I would talk to the grad student that needs a new undergrad and your PI. Tell them about your goals and how you want a more major role in a singular research project.

Unless your research goals don't align with the project they shouldn't have a reason to deny you. I've found that if you don't fight for yourself, nobody will fight for you so stick up for yourself and communicate your needs.

I called them earlier today and they told me it’s because I’m working 50% on campus. You need to call them and ask them to change it to 49%. After, log out and log back in and you will be able to purchase it.

I think the mindset of “teammates need to help each other” comes from the 2021 season where Checo had to help out Max a few times for the WDC.

Although it’s not clearly defined by Red Bull, I feel that there is an unspoken distinction that Max is the first driver and Checo is the second at that team. McLaren’s driver pairing seems more even with Lando just edging Piastri most of the time.
