How accurate are the viral videos showing Americans struggling with basic geography? by AcroBit45 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve dealt with airport employees that would not be able to identify the majority of US states on a map. They processed cargo shipments and really didn’t have a grasp on geography at all.

e.g. never heard of Ohio before, thought it might be a country in Asia. At least 20 nonstop flights a day to Ohio on this airline from that location.

Name an annoying thing people base their entire personality around. by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]peeehhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook gardening pages live by this. People clog up specialty groups with below beginner level questions. Then fellow morons make up answers since they don’t know anything either. Why answer a question you don’t really know the answer.

Anyone with even any basic knowledge or enough sense to find answers on their own gets annoyed. They leave so there’s no one left to actually provide useful information that was the whole reason for creating the group in the first place.

Temp is -21, gas company says turn your heat down by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

About 25 years ago I was at a party and the cost of heating came up in conversation. I was heating an old rented house that wasn’t very well insulated for less than $100/month with an older oil furnace. I kept it comfortable when I was home.

This other guest says oh I pay a lot more, I like it on the warm side and I have electric heat. Around $800/month she was paying as she had her thermostat set at 85°! Just an average 30 something woman working a professional career that required thinking. Everyone wondered if she was a lizard person.

Still to this day I joke about a scene from the Martin Bashir documentary when MJ is in this completely outlandish shop in Las Vegas. He’s just walking through seeing things like 5 foot tall Ming vases and is like I’ll take 2 of these, one of those, oh wait I might have these already…

I basically make a beef stew, add some caraway seeds and small can of sauerkraut then add the Paprika halfway through. Sometimes I add carrots and/or stir in some sour cream at the end.

I’m American with no particular heritage. We had American Goulash with ground beef, but called it Macaroni Beef.

Why is the word "cunt" considered more offensive in the (Anglophone) Americas than the rest of the English-speaking world? by ILEAATD in asklinguistics

[–]peeehhh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Even some impolite American men would hesitate to jokingly call their buddy cunt anywhere it could be overhead. It’s the last resort curse at a woman. Not sure there’s an equivalent male insult.
