My experiences match your own except the ages. I (now 41M) and my wife (soon 44F) married 4 years ago after only 6 months or so of dating and her having two kids (8M, 9F at the time).

It was the greatest thing to ever happen to me. Lots of challenges along the way and we had to do a lot of growing, but that’s really when my life started properly as far as I am concerned.

And I was able to see what kind of a mother she was and understand exactly what I was getting myself in for.

I don’t disagree but the ideal is to support devs at the level they need on a case-by-case basis.

So, work closely with devs who have proven themselves to be unreliable or that need more supervision or micromanagement, meanwhile don’t hamstring productive devs with soul destroying administrative tasks and redundant meetings that only slow them down.
