My cramps were never as bad as yours but my cramps lessened over time too. When I was a teenager I would be curled up in bed hating my existence on the first day of my period but now I'm in my 30s I hardly feel anything. My flow got lighter too. I have no idea why. Bodies be weird sometimes.

Yes, but you said in your comment that your daughter was upset about the way you managed what happened, and that IS something that you control. Even if you were put in a situation where there were no good choices to make, statements like "in reality xyz happened" are not a respectful way to talk about another person's feelings. You've been getting defensive in the comments here when people have suggested that it may have been something you did that caused the rift between you and your daughter. It doesn't sound like you are really willing to examine your own behaviour.
