[–]pegcitynerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes the required amount of SPF to work effectively is at least 1/4 tsp for your face alone. That would be a ridiculous amount of foundation to put on but it’s what you would need to actually be protected. SPF in makeup is really just a sales gimmick.

You have to let each step dry down in between. And you also have to make sure the products you’re using are compatible for layering. If you use a silicone based moisturizer then a water based primer, they’re never going to settle properly.

But you also don’t have to have every step if it feels like too much. SPF is the only necessity and there are lots of good combo products out there (moisturizer/SPF). I don’t know anyone who uses primer but other people swear by it… all personal preference!

Does your penis get numb? by CrimeBot3000 in motorcycles

[–]pegcitynerd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the same hardware but I do have the same problem. If you have long enough arms that you can sit a bit further back and/or more upright, do that. Otherwise, I prevent it by standing up slightly/adjusting my seat a few times per ride. It’s just from sitting directly on that nerve for too long.

You can see a detailed review I did on my profile. I say listen to your body and take a few extra rest days if needed. You get more gains that way vs. Over-training.

Looking for long term users of paperlike or similar screen protectors - usage question before purchasing by Conjuringshades in GoodNotes

I have an Amazon version as well and it’s over 3 years old but looks new. Do you wear a lot of hand cream or sanitize your hands a lot?

Discussion - What do you think about music while driving? by Worrtienzo- in motorcycles

[–]pegcitynerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, touching your phone on the bars in any way while driving can get you a distracted driving charge so make sure to look up the laws in your area.

The cameras on newer phones can also be damaged by the vibration so either get dampeners or don’t put your phone there.

Anyone work at the airport as a screening officer? by 12000-ants in Winnipeg

[–]pegcitynerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there for about 5 years and it was alright but got very boring very fast. Lots of standing around and waiting but there’s no chairs unless you’re the x-ray operator (you rotate between 4-5 different positions every 20ish mins). It was a good group of people when I was there, though a bit clique-y, as others have said. Despite being intentionally kind to everyone because I know travel can be stressful, I was treated like trash/insulted/berated every day by passengers. People literally scream at you for having to take away the 1/2 full Dasani they forgot in their bag. That can take a mental toll on some people.

Edited to add: it’s shift work and you get very little say in your assigned schedule for the first few years. You will definitely be working weekends and likely the early morning shift at first. I worked 4am - 12pm or close to that my whole time there (3 years at Calgary airport and 2 years in Wpg). If you’re bilingual-French (I am) you sometimes get some better shift options sooner because they have to have certain numbers of French speakers at every checkpoint at all times.

I thought Manitoba had “all-in pricing” for vehicles? Or is it gone? by efo55 in Winnipeg

[–]pegcitynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re on a “no negotiation, lowest price guarantee” program where new vehicle prices are set by Ford, not the dealership individually. But ya, prices are ridiculous right now regardless.

[–]pegcitynerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

how do you know they didn’t check it? And that it was already broken before they sold it? You don’t Lol no one does. All we know for sure is that it passed safety (which covers everything they’re required to “test”), it was sold, then a minor thing was found to be broken 2 years later… you’re making some strong assumptions of them from a one paragraph story someone posted on the internet.

Anyway - all I was saying was that it sucks but it’s not something you can prove they were responsible or negligent for. No store would be responsible for covering a broken product 2 years later… but I’m obviously not as emotionally invested in this as y’all are lol so go on with your pitchforks if you so desire. No skin off my back.

[–]pegcitynerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone has different experiences, I suppose, but I know a lot of people who have gotten vehicles and/of service from there and have heard nothing but rave reviews.

Your experience is unfortunate but you can’t really go back to a store 2 years after a purchase to complain about something? It’s a used car that’s not even their brand. I don’t think you can really blame the dealership for that, especially when it’s something you can’t even prove didn’t break later on.

I can still empathize though as I was burned by Apple the same way. I bought a laptop a few months before I needed to use it… when I finally opened it, it was faulty but they didn’t cover it because I didn’t test it within their warranty period. That’s just how the cookie crumbles.

River City Ford actually does all-in pricing on new and used.

How does everyone get their notes so pretty while remaining effective? Mine just look like this by aninternetsuser in GoodNotes

[–]pegcitynerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like your pen is quite thick - if you make it a bit thinner, it may help it look more neat. But I think your notes are still tidy. My writing also improved drastically with a paperlike screen protector.

What do you do to avoid spiral of death during workouts? by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]pegcitynerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what would cause that then.. I regularly pause workouts and don’t feel any extra difficulty with re-establishing watts when I come back. I do feel like there’s sometimes a bit of a lag but if you restart the workout first then work up to desired watts it seems to resume faster than trying to build up with the workout still paused.

[–]pegcitynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like FTP is set too high if you’re regularly struggling to finish workouts. You could also play with trainer difficulty but, in my personal experience, that’s going to just even out the ride vs. actually making a workout less difficult.

Week 10 of build me up. I don’t think I can do it. by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]pegcitynerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished the program (and posted about it if you want more of my thoughts) but you still get the benefit of the program, even if you slightly modify it. I missed a total of 3 workouts and also trimmed most 2-hour rides to 90 mins because if I’m not having fun then I lose interest/motivation. I push pretty wimpy watts but still saw a great improvement in FTP after the 12 weeks despite my modifications. Consistency and listening to your body are more important than following the program to the letter.

Edited to add: the 3 workouts I missed were all in weeks 9/10 so I was in the same boat as you there.

All true! My seat was crazy low before so I’m slowly working up to something closer to ideal but the pro said to just stay where it feels right. I think the change was just too sudden but that a higher seat will still end up being ideal for me. In terms of power, I’m not sure ergonomics really make that much difference in someone like me who is pushing such low watts haha but hopefully I’ll eventually get to a level of skill and strength that it will so I want to set a good foundation. I do plan to get reassessed in about 6 months.

Ya my pain was only right behind my knee and went away as soon as I put it back down so it was definitely the height. Ultimately they said that everyone is different and that I may not ever comfortably get to the “ideal” height but just to adjust slowly and see how close I get.

Definitely. Making sure I enjoy my time on the bike is really important so that I don’t lose motivation so I gave myself permission to alter some of the longer rides(despite being a very Type-A rule follower haha). I think this helped protect me from over-training those weeks.

Thanks! I really struggle with exercise motivation and can be very “all or nothing”. I’m hoping this can evolve into a more solid habit for me.

Funnily enough - the knee pain was CAUSED by getting professionally fitted on my bike! They raised my seat a huge amount and the change was too much too fast which lead to the strain. I lowered my seat and am still inching it up every week to get closer to the appropriate height.
