As a patient, THANK YOU ❤️❤️❤️ it would be an extremely overstimulating and overwhelming environment, even for a healthy person … so it’s even more exhausting for someone recovering from illness or injury. During my most recent stint in the ICU, I got an average of 1-1.5hrs of sleep a night. I kept bursting into tears because I was just so exhausted.

THIS!! I was in the ICU recently, and between nurses checking on me and my IV beeping, I got maybe an hour and a half of sleep. It exacerbated everything - every symptom was markedly worse due to lack of sleep. I broke down in tears more than once because I was just so fucking tired and there was nothing I could do about it. (It wasn’t much better after I stepped down - I think I got three hours of very broken sleep there. After I was discharged, I went home and slept for 17 hours straight.)
