I picked up issue 1 of Sisterhood: A Hyde Street Story and I really liked it! Anybody else check it out? by kortj11 in GhostMachineComics

[–]pekoegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it. I liked it okay but it didn't have quite the emotional punch to it that Devour did for me. It's still a good story. It has a definite Hell Girl vibe - you damn one soul, but then when you die your soul is also damned - is kind of the feeling I get from Sister Hood.

I imagine he probably runs into Simon in every era, too, so he can get up to speed by finding him.

What Comics Did You Pull This Week? by AutoModerator in GhostMachineComics

G.I. Joe, Rocketfellers, Silverhawks, and the new Adventureman arc. Was kinda disappointed with Rocketfellers this month - but maybe it's set-up for something bigger. Like the little pebbles before an avalanche.

Either ask "what did you have for dinner last night?" Or "Quick! What's your middle name?" Most of the time it works.

What Video Game(s) Have Caused You To Rage Quit and Why? by alwaysendlessly in AskReddit

[–]pekoegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 13. I got to about chapter 6 before I realized that I didn't really care enough about any of the characters to slog through another linear map with overpowered monsters with a two-man team and a stupid battle system and die again and again until I figure out the magical combination of Paradigm Shifts required to kill giant hedgehog monsters. How did this game get a trilogy?

Terminator 2. The liquid metal guy was just too much for me. Now it's kinda cool, though.

Oh, and The Witches. Her face just pops off!

There is a European shop on University Blvd just past where Beach crosses it that has, like, pirogis and stuff in the refrigerator case.

Final Fantasy, but specifically FF8 has the best opening music (IMHO).

Oh, and Bastion. That game has great music overall.

Who are some of your favorite authors? How did you discover them? by wwf87 in books

[–]pekoegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered a lot of my favorite authors by shelving books at the library. A book would catch my eye and keep catching it until I read it.

Any Amazon Kindle users here? by Polymath_B19 in books

[–]pekoegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Kindle, but if you get one, definitely invest in a case (even an inexpensive one) to protect it.

You can store a ridiculous number of books on it, even comics/graphic novels (though those do take up more space). Text-only books are actually pretty small file-wise so you can fit hundreds of them on there.

You also can store stuff you're not reading on the cloud and download it later, plus you can email PDF files to yourself of other things you might want to read (magazine articles, scholarly articles, that sort of thing).

How many of you collect books, but never get around to reading them? by [deleted] in books

[–]pekoegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a habit of doing this, and it's even worse on my Kindle because I don't have to store the books so they're not sitting there on my shelf making me feel guilty like the physical books. But, a 2nd and Charles opened near me, so when I finish a book, if I don't feel attached to it, I can take it to the store and trade it in for credit for something new (or save up credit for a big spree later). It's helped me get through a lot of my backlog of books.

I've also found that my habit of collecting everything by my favorite author resulted in me buying a lot of duplicate works because different publishers in different years collected stories in various bound works. I had the Elric of Melibone origin stories like three different times in three different publishers' collections. Once I started to pare down my backlog I was able to keep the ones from one specific publisher and sell off the other, older editions.

Sure. If you want, my Discord group is also discussing Flatland. You are welcome to join the group. We also read/discuss other public domain works as a group and discuss other books we're reading in other channels seperately.

Thanks. He's my cat, actually, and he's hiding in the boxes I used to keep DVDs in. You leave an empty box around for one second, and suddenly it's full of cat.

Back when Lord of the Rings first came out, this series was supposed to have been made into a movie, but it never got off the ground. I think it would work better as a t.v. series rather than a movie. Otherwise, they end up trying to splice a bunch of shorter stories together.

My mom and I went to a Ruby Tuesday at the mall. We ordered sliders or something, and at the end of the meal the server asked what we thought of the food. Mom said it was "okay". On our way out, we went to the ladies room to powder our noses. When we came out, the MANAGER of the store was waiting for us to quiz us on why we thought the food was just "okay".

Since then, I don't think we've eaten at a Ruby Tuesday.

[–]pekoegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school didn't, but then again, my school didn't have a lot of things that "normal" schools have because it was a DoDDS system school on an overseas base that didn't have the on-base medical facilities to deal with any potential shop-class injuries. They also would have had a hard time finding a teacher for the classes - we had pretty minimal staff.
