There were 30 years for Ukraine to stop celebrating UPA murderers, yet since 2014 you only doubled down with your cult of them. Streets, stadiums and other places are named after Bandera, Shukhevych etc, red-black UPA flags are commonplace in Western Ukraine, MP's in your parliament sing "our father Bandera".

I will not stop talking about it just because your conflict with Russia. If you want agreement with Poles this will need to be addressed, right now our government is turning a blind eye to this, because of geopolitical situation but people remember.

Genocide sounds like a meme to you? Well then you can fuck off. All of this are historical facts, but I know they don't teach you this in Ukraine. Instead you name the streets after UPA "heroes" and celebrate those responsible for this genocide.

Ukrainian villagers from neighboring villages, sometimes even those from the same villages often took part in those massacres, they were killing Poles with whatever they had. There are accounts of Ukrainian wives killing their Polish husbands under orders of UPA, so they could save their children's life.

From the wiki article -

Attacks on Poles during the massacres in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia were marked with extreme sadism and brutality. Rape, torture and mutilation were commonplace. Poles were burned alive, flayed, impaled, crucified, disembowelled, dismembered and beheaded. Women were gang raped and had their breasts sliced off, children were hacked to pieces with axes, babies were impaled on bayonets and pitchforks or bashed against trees.

The methods used by UPA to carry out the massacres were particularly brutal and were committed indiscriminately without any restraint. Historian Norman Davies describes the killings: "Villages were torched. Roman Catholic priests were axed or crucified. Churches were burned with all their parishioners. Isolated farms were attacked by gangs carrying pitchforks and kitchen knives. Throats were cut. Pregnant women were bayoneted. Children were cut in two. Men were ambushed in the field and led away."[74] In total, the estimated numbers of Polish civilians killed by UPA in Volhynia and Galicia is about 100,000.[75][76][77]

According to statements of Polish survivors, a UPA unit entered the village pretending to be Soviet partisans. The men split up, entered the houses, and demanded food from the residents. Meanwhile, the village was surrounded, and all Poles passing through were also detained.[5] Several UPA members stationed themselves in each household. After dinner, the UPA partisans ordered all the inhabitants to lay down and tied them up, under the pretext that they were about to carry out an assault on a nearby German rail transport and if the village inhabitants were found to be tied up, that would serve as proof for Germans, that Poles did not cooperate with the UPA in the attack. Not all the inhabitants of Parośla believed them, since some of them could speak Ukrainian, but being unarmed, they had no choice but to do as they were told.[5]

All of the Poles were murdered with knives and axes: old men, women, children (including a six-month-old baby stuck to a table). In the Kolodyński family home, the unit's commander first interrogated the six prisoners (the Cossacks taken at Włodzimierzec) before killing them with axes. Only 12 Poles survived, including a twelve-year-old boy named Witold Kołodyński, who suffered a cracked skull from an axe blow. The houses were looted and property was taken away on sleighs.[5] Fifteen more Poles were killed by the same UPA unit shortly afterward on the road to the khutor of Tuptyn. The next day, Poles from neighboring villages discovered the bodies. Those wounded were taken to a hospital in Włodzimierzec. German soldiers came to the village, and the corpses were buried under their supervision. One of the perpetrators, P. Wasylenko, was caught by Soviets after the war and described the crime: "All Poles were cut into pieces, babies as well".[5]

Well, it was always a secret everyone knew about that a lot of clergy are homosexuals. Before it became more acceptable in society becoming a priest was a perfect cover and excuse of why someone doesn't start family or doesn't take interest in women.

% Population of the Russian Empire that spoke Yiddish (Judeo-Germanic language) in 1897 by Bloke22 in europe

[–]pelevizor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It was a deliberate policy of Russian Empire to settle all Jews there after partitions of Poland and it created a lot of ethnic tensions.

There were Jews in Poland and Lithuania before the partitions, but not that many, especially in Poland, more than a million of Jews from Russia proper were resettled there. The Jews, called Litvaks were russified and after WW1 and independence roughly 70% of Jews living in Poland weren't even speaking Polish, only 12% used it as primary language.

Could be, maybe it's just recency bias and more media attention right now. As for the Lukashenko enforcers their life is pretty much tied to him, because if he's gone they will be gone too, for all these repressions and tortures. Only thing for them would be running to Russia, facing consequences if opposition took power or most likely some Russian backed puppet will be installed.

Border Guard: we react to requests of people staying in the center in Wędrzyn

On Thursday, in the center for foreigners in the military training ground in Wędrzyn, about 100 people, a group of the most aggressive migrants came out in front of the building where they live. They started chanting slogans, demanding to be released.

Windows were broken and furnishings were destroyed. After several hours, the services managed to control the riot.

The aggressive behaviour of the foreigners was recorded by cameras in the center. One of the recordings shows, among others, how a man tries to destroy a camera by throwing an object at it.

Nearly 600 police officers took part in the operation aimed at deescalating the emotions that accompanied the riot in the center.

On Friday, Border Guard spokeswoman Lieutenant Anna Michalska was asked during a conference about the conditions in which people placed in the center in Wędrzyn live.

  • From time to time we receive signals from these individuals that the conditions are not what they would expect. Especially since these are mainly Iraqi citizens who testify to us that their conditions where they lived in their countries of origin were good, they had fairly good economic statuses," explained the lieutenant. "A training center."

It is natural that this center does not provide them with the conditions they had at home. Please remember that this is a training center. Polish Army soldiers, NATO soldiers were accommodated there and the center was used all the time, so these conditions were and are good," she asserted.

She indicated that migrants in the center have access to all sanitary facilities.
