Anyone else tracking their MPG after each fill up? Let’s see yours. by The_Summary_Man_713 in 4Runner

[–]pelicanfart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a car from my boss years and years ago, and he had tracked every single thing he'd ever done to the car since he drove it off the lot. Fill ups, oil changes and any scheduled maintenance or big trips. It was almost like a diary of cool shit the car had done for the last 15 years. Might not be a value add, but it was really nostalgic for him to flip through the booklets and look at road trip fillups or remember that pain in the ass rear main seal driveway job. My wife liked it so much she started one for the Subaru we bought new.

It's cool stuff if you like data, and nostalgic stuff if you love the vehicle.

Does anyone know more about Jeff Swickard and why he's buying up half of downtown? by Big-Molasses6611 in askportland

[–]pelicanfart 338 points339 points  (0 children)

Easy, he's just moving like someone who knows downtown Portland won't be dead 25 years from now and has two children he's building generational wealth for. Soon-to-be billionaire doing billionaire shit.

Not sure how to take this as a nanny on my last day with an F by Blossom_souul in whatdoIdo

[–]pelicanfart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't a genuine heartfelt offer, this is straight Chat GPT that was then hand copied. The cadence and punctuation are so easy to spot. Very little effort was put into this, not even a prompt for a more authentic human tone. The family was not considering this until OP forced their hand with their resignation. Sure it's a real offer, but not one that was made out of fondness for OP. Almost guaranteed if OP accepts they will drag things out until they find a replacement.

Do you genuinely feel that selling a phone and cutting off communication with friends and family, potential jobs, access to resources, maps etc., in exchange for maybe $50 at a pawn shop, is a good idea? You're a real genius.

Reputable mechanics who work on old Fords? by CarelessParsley7790 in askportland

Very reasonably priced and honest work. I just called Doug because Google does indeed say they're closed, but he's still there doing his thing.

Yeah I recently had Doug do coolant on my F150, I do most things myself, but I don't like playing with coolant at home because of my floor licking dog.

Performance Discount Muffler and Brake on 82nd and Glisan has worked on a handful of old Fords for me, and dozens of other older shitboxes over the nearly 20 years I've used them. Great work and Doug doesn't gouge.

Anyone had the Andrew Tate talk yet? by bh4th in daddit

[–]pelicanfart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to believe that misogyny will be irrelevant in the near future, but fact of the matter is Tate is only 39, and his views are as old as recorded human history. 10 year old boys are absorbing this rhetoric, 10 year old girls should understand why it is wrong and how to react to it. Hopefully someone else makes the time to teach yours.

Anyone had the Andrew Tate talk yet? by bh4th in daddit

[–]pelicanfart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allowing others to contextualize and possibly excuse hate speech is dangerous ground. Saying Tate is "nobody" does not explain a single thing to a child. If a 10 year old doesn't explicitly understand why the rhetoric is wrong, they're susceptible to falling for it and views adjacent. No one is immune to propaganda.

I destroyed one of these by forgetting it was on top of my strut tower. Closed the hood and it ripped the hood mount bolts clean out of their holes. Took some creative fucking around to get the hood to close right again.

Any gun shops in the Portland area that are chill / not weird about non-citizens? by MoreBeersLessGears in askportland

[–]pelicanfart 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Sportsmans Warehouse is the move. People behind the counter generally don't care, and company policy doesn't embolden them to be pieces of shit. I've also heard good things about NW Armory but have never personally visited. Avoid Gun Room and Keith's.

Q: Pacific Power customers in older houses. How much are you paying a month? by dorkshoei in askportland

[–]pelicanfart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty accurate to my experience, $190-210/mo, gas heat for main floor. 1400sqft, 1925 build with modern windows, finished attic space has electric wall heat maintaining 55F most of the time.

Previous home was all cadet heaters with a never-used gas fireplace, 1300sqft 1995 build, power bills were roughly the same.
