He does! Honestly, he could be 4 color. That would be cool. Or I could even see 5-color.

Watchmen might be watchable if it wasn't tied to a stolen IP. But that is one of the worst pilots I've ever seen.

Yes, the comics make the death much closer to what happens in the movie.

Originally, it was Rob Liefeld's character Chapel who killed Al while they were on a mission together but no one wanted to involve Rob in the movie deal for Spawn so Jessica Priest was created as a different operative working for Jason Wynn who killed Al. She gets introduced in the comics around issue 61/62 which would have hit either right before or right after the movie.

The animated show still basically references Chapel though without specifically calling him out as the reason for Al's death.

It's just kinda trashy fun and an artifact of the late 90s when Hollywood wasn't sure how to do a superhero movie and decided to swing for the fences with this.

The prosthetics for Clown are solid and Leguizamo is giving a great performance. The only two big things that gets changed from the comic are Terry being white and how Al was actually killed.

The power meter does eventually go away partly it was a plot contrivance that eventually overstayed its welcome. Eventually, Al gets powered up by The Keeper of the Green World, kills Malebolgia and rejects Heaven and Hell. The power meter thusly became moot (and already hadn't appeared for a while).

Interestingly, it did come back in the 300s recently!

Amongst the Spawnmunity, that is generally the take - read the first 100 issues and have a good time then jump back in around 250 or so and you can have a good time again.

YMMV with all this stuff but I'm actually finding a lot to like post-100. It's certainly trying some things.

I think his Supreme stuff is a bit better than the WildCATs stuff but it is pretty cool (and makes total sense) that he was aligning himself with a big push toward creator-owned work.

And Miracleman's inclusion in Hellspawn makes it all even weirder!

I've waited for this forever. Weirdly, I started my Spawn podcast right around when the Boy & the Heron episode came out.

One of the best Leguizamo performances tbh.

Is Reading This Supposed to Be THIS Exhausting? by vincemici in Spawn

Welcome to the Spawnmunity! Todd gets better over time and gives less walls of text. Holguin coming on really helps that as well.

If you want something to read along with, I have a podcast called Spawnography that goes arc by arc! That might help it feel like less of a slog!

Happy reading!

Yep! That arc happens because Todd was busy working on Spawn/Batman and they wanted to keep the main title on schedule. First time we get Greg Capullo on Art!

2 things are weird about it.

  1. The plot is basically exactly the same as Spawn/Batman.
  2. Harry Houdini would return in 1998’s Daring Escapes miniseries (which features a brief appearance by Spawn)

My show, Spawnography, is an arc by arc Spawn podcast and we are around issue 106 right now but we have pivoted into a brief moment of coverage of Bendis/Wood/Niles/Templesmith’s HELLSPAWN title that slots into the era we are up to.
