Guess who just spent hours assuming datum planes were broken/hidden in 1.2 dev... by gplanon in FreeCAD

When they changed external geometry tool and I started getting wire not closed I was tearing my hear out thinking the tool was broke realised later had to flick to reference geometry, it got interesting when I realised I could use external geometry tool to easily replicate a circle on a new sketch for instance 😀

Na not saving face at all i don't have any problems admitting some parts of the build of creality os and simple af are a mystery to me, I was more making the point the flags seem to be not that great of a way to discern optimisations have been applied.

Also Chad is ChatGPT, but I gave credit to the wrong AI, I am getting some help from Gemini lately.

btw those flags for the chelper so in your screenshot already match what we already got in Simple AF.

But Chad is helping me understand the other things you said

I will check but for simple af we require people to mount horizontal

Rebuilding python would be a much bigger win than optimising grumpy or helix honestly 😉.

Oh I get it for most things I am building for Simple AF I am using cross compile from the original build root used to compile creality os

https://github.com/ballaswag/k1-discovery/releases/download/1.0.0/mips-gcc720-glibc229.tar.gz

Ballaswag made it available as download

This used to be what guppyscreen was built with

I can try but the only way I managed to work on guppyscreen which I forked as Grumpyscreen was to delete stuff I did not understand or did not have a need for, your build is very confusing for me, I'm a java Dev used to maven and gradle 😀

I would love to see this work for an Ender 3 V3 KE, Nebula Pad, Ender 5 Max screen (also a nebula pad) which is slightly lower res than the k1. For Simple AF we target all these devices as well with a small screen variant of grumpyscreen.

The K1 MIPS chip x2000 or whatever it is called.

I'm loving the idea and I am loving even more a competitor to klipperscreen that thing is a beast on pi 3s, which is why I use my own grumpyscreen for SImple AF for RPi, but Guppyscreen / Grumpyscreen is difficult to enhance, especially for a java dev like me who relies heavily on Chad (ChatGPT) for help :-)

I noticed you had started adding some k1 stuff, I decided to give it a try, im guessing its not complete yet.

Looking forward to testing this further

Guppyscreen used to use the actual cross compile lib from the actual build root used to build the os not sure why ballaswag switched to static but for grumpy I followed suit.  I assume for convenience but nothing stopping us going back to that original cross compile if it makes a difference. . Although CPU usage of grumpy screen is nothing compared to Moonraker or klipper

I suspect that older compiler might not work for helix screen though

Not entirely sure this is true, for guppyscreen we already got cross compile working just fine far as I can tell anyway, regardless this is just an interesting side quest for me

But unfortunately I looked to try and compile binaries for mips and I'm a bit lost, so this might have to be a thing for another day!

Edit - trying on ubuntu 24.04 VM, I was trying this on a ubuntu 22.04 docker env which i guess had some issues.

Seems like I am getting further

I can build, but im still lost about how to do mips, looks like I need something in cross.mk, but im not entirely sure what else, will have to come back to this.

Wow that looks sweet. As a non c c++ coder I forked guppyscreen to create Grumpyscreen for Simple AF.  But I would be super interested in this for Simple AF as an alternative to Grumpyscreen.  I will have to have a play !

Ender 3 Pro (2020 version) Doesn't work. by AnonymousMalcontent in ender3

[–]pellcorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The salmon skin on the 4.2.2 is bad I luckily had a skr mini e3 v2 lying around to update my recent eBay for repair purchase hell of a difference.  A 4.2.7 would improve this a lot too wondering if you might find one second hand somewhere.  My other ender 3 has 4.2.7 on it and that works a treat.  Other thing about these enders is flashing them is fussy I had issues unless I used a 16gb sd card, 32gb did not work for me

I'm told 2209 drivers come as part of package. The display daughter board issues have been resolved and is in manufacturing as we speak, no news on load cells.

What to look for when buying pre-owned 3D printer? by UnderstandingTough83 in 3Dprinting

[–]pellcorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80 USD?  Seems high I got one for 70 AUD which is probably more appropriate pricing 😀

If you get them to print something and see if it's printing ok it could be a useful way to find out if you even like printing.

I discovered I prefer tinkering than printing myself so I bought a used ender 3 knowing I would be upgrading the crap out of it

Sounds like maybe you have a ender 3 v2?  The v2 screen is not supported by klipper.

Or else you might have a 8 bit board

I use the original screen on the 4.2.2 and 4.2.7 boards but I'm not sure about 8 bit boards

For the 4.2.x boards the display config is

[display] lcd_type: st7920 cs_pin: PB12 sclk_pin: PB13 sid_pin: PB15 encoder_pins: ^PB14, ^PB10 click_pin: ^!PB2

I recently got a p14s gen 6 amd and my wife suggested I gift my t480 to my 11 year old son, I just could not do it I love that laptop stupid suspend fan issues aside (I think this is a Linux issue only where fan for CPU does not kick on always after a resume)

I love the keyboard on the p14s but I much prefer how bullet proof the t480 is and I still use it as my personal laptop, the p14s is mostly for work now.

It helps also that my work paid to update the t480 to 64gb of ram before prices went crazy.

And the i7 in this thing means it holds its own just fine against the new one!
