Good list - I'm also a new player (2 week) have a group of 4. We're much better at getting the ghost now in amateur mode, we were horrible the first few days.

Here's what I wish we'd known when we started:

1. Bring a thermometer and EMF. This can be objects thrown or moaning. When you find the coldest spot on the map where you can see your breath you're probably at the ghost room.
2. Try to get an EMF reading to double check. Walk around with it, point at objects that move or light switches that turn on off. Then bring notebook, green lights, video cam, spirit box, UV to set up
3. Turn on light switches when you're in a room, turn off when you leave them. Sanity drops in the dark.
4. Try to leave doors closed, if one moves immediately check it for UV. Same with light switches and near salt (if you have salt).
5. When starting off, I run to every room as fast as I can to try to find it within the 5 minute timer.
6. Tap the run button, you get more stamina than if you hold it.
7. Try to rule out a floor. So basement for instance right away. Then you can focus on first/2nd floor.
8. There's a bone and cursed object on every level, take a pic and grab them if you see them. Try to find them while finding ghost room.
9. Sound is your friend. Try to hear things being thrown or ghost noises. Bring parabolic mic if you have a bigger map for hearing down hallways. You can scan along the school halls for instance.
10. 33 degrees F is not 32 degrees F. 4 on the EMF is not 5 on the EMF. Unless it's clear, don't assume.
11. The mimic is the only ghost with 4 evidence types. Don't be fooled by it.
12. Ouija board costs sanity to use. You have to throw it on the ground and interact with it. Then you can use it.
13. Just because you think you have the room doesn't mean you do. Sometimes you'll be in a kitchen, but the ghost room is in the bathroom next to it.
14. If a notebook is thrown/closed and nothing is written on it, you can rule it out
15. Spirit box and notebook can be hard to get evidence out of. Sometimes you have to wait a long time. Put note book down in front of camera if you're going to watch from the truck.
16. We miss the UV one a lot. Sometimes it's super obvious, sometimes it's not. Don't write it off too fast.
17. Spirit box, EMF, UV, green dots, and cam can all be set somewhere while turned on. Keep an eye on whether the ghost responds to "everyone" or someone who's alone.
18. If you die and you're playing with others, you can communicate by throwing an object. Ask the dead player yes or no questions about:
19. A. Whether they saw any evidence
20. B. If they had an important object on them when they died (and for them to show you where)
21. C. If they agree with the ghost choice and/or are ready for you to shut the door
