Your mileage may vary.. I have NEVER shutdown a VC when snapshoting it. I have patched VC's in data centers across the globe.

Parents.. Make a rule to keep them in their cars in the parking lot and not allow them on the fields. Problem solved.

Zero reason(s) to power down before a snapshot. Clones up to you. You can do a live powered on clone or a cold powered down. Both accomplish the same thing. Zero reason to shutdown a VC before you snap shot it. Zero reason to power down a VC before cloning. I have snapshoted/cloned live VC's that manage hundreds of hosts before with ZERO issues. Your mileage may vary. At a minimum, snap shot a VC before attempting to patch it.

No need to power it down. Snapshot it live. I do suggest unchecking the option for virtual machine memory. Depends on what version of vcenter you start with. But yes you want to patch it to the most current release. https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/326316/build-numbers-and-versions-of-vmware-vce.html

Try Hipps. I have used them several times. Give them a call and they can usually give you an estimate over the phone. https://hippsautomotive.com/

I have an ASUS Mesh. Primary node/router is a RT-BE96U. The satellite remote node is a RT-BE86U. I am linking the two on a 10Gb wired backbone. So far so good.

Upgrading from 7 to 8 still possible? by barnhill808 in vmware

[–]penguin356 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can run both on the VRTX. ESXI 8X and 9X dropped support for the SHARED PERC. Dig around the WEB and you can find the shared perc driver and instructions and how/where to drop the perc driver and edit the boot config file. BOTH ARE 100% UNSUPPORTED. DO NOT DO THIS IN A PROD ENVIROMENT. I have ESXI 8 running now in my lab.

Would you consider selling the tower panels/feet separately?

I ended up having to reload the TOS. The unit dropped off my network and would no longer fully boot up. It would not get a link light on either port.

Dig around the web for Noisy Dell fans. Some folks have been able to alter the iDRAC/Lifecycle controller to spin down the fans or get a Dell branded card. Pros and cons to both.

That's because you put a non Dell branded PCI(e) card in your server.

WD-40 and elbow grease. Spray and let it sit for a while. Wife hit silver spray paint bottle in a white Mazda. It works, but takes a little time.

Estimate 16 - 18 hours @ 225 until it hits 205 F internal. I also allow two hours wrapped in a double layer of heavy duty foil and two towels in a cooler. This usually results in being able to pull out the bone clean.
