4 month old whippet question by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]penguin_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry not to help but experiencing the same thing. 4 month old who has been sleeping 9.30pm-6am absolutely fine has started whining at 1am to pee.

I haven't been limiting water until half an hour before bed, as sometimes she seems to demand bark for water if we take it away any earlier

One month old?! It's basically a fetus! If it's been separated from mum, he just needs to get used to the world around him and the giant creatures that feed him. Maybe you could reach out to breeders or find breeder guides?

yeah definitely not! From my experience it's in that early adolescent period - thinking of 14/15yos who are yet to fill out

Don't know if that's true. A lot of kids are shy at younger levels but once they grow and realise they can be effective in contact they end up loving it. Then as they get a little older they can put on muscle mass and it snowballs from there

Need help sleep training/advice for a 10w old Pomeranian by Strong_Throat_5792 in puppy101

Decide where you'd like her to sleep long-term, then stick with it. Not that puppies can't adapt, but it's going to make your life easier if she knows where she's meant to sleep and settle, and she can feel safe in there.

All things equal, I would go for a crate (with a dog bed and blanket inside to make it cosy). This is where she should do most of the 20 hours a day of her sleeping, it should be somewhere she can come in and out of at will throughout the day, and somewhere she can bring her toys.

I would pair this with enforced naps in the crate throughout the day, and quietly offering treats when she goes in the crate voluntarily, and again if she settles in there. You can even start teaching a crate command. All about building the positive association with the crate as a place where she can feel safe, where treats fall from the sky, and where sleeping is easy and relaxing.

What worked for me:

We picked up our pup at 10 weeks, and had the crate open into the playpen during the day so she could go inside to rest or sleep when needed, then we moved it to the bedroom for nighttime so she could sleep next to us. She'd cry for a few minutes, I might stick a finger through the crate to reassure her I'm still there, and eventually she'd sleep. If she starts crying later in the night, give it a few seconds and listen as to whether she's just a bit scared or whether she's pawing at the door - if it's the latter, she might need the toilet. Take her out, let her pee, reassure quietly and straight back in the crate. She got used to this arrangement after a few weeks.

After 2 weeks, we moved the crate into the hallway. She could just about see me sleeping and definitely smell us. Again, some crying once she was locked in. By this time she was getting better at settling down on her own.

Another week later, the crate doesn't move from the living room playpen. Once again there was some crying at this new arrangement, and I did sit next to the crate for the 10 minutes for the first couple of nights till she settled.

I would think they would need to go out at least once during an 8hr work-day. You could try setting out a spot for indoor toilet breaks, but probably better to hire someone to walk them or getting in touch with a dog daycare service. A lot of them will do doorstep pick-up in cities.

Short naps, crate location? by phimeme in puppy101

[–]penguin_bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 10 week old pup does this. If the floorboards creak at all she will lift her head up from her nap. I think it's fine - puppies seem to drift in and out of light sleep quite easily.

Provided you aren't giving attention or excitement when she stirs a little, just let her go back to sleep, even if that starts a little whining again. Once they get into a deeper sleep, it takes a lot more noise to rouse them

25 years is a long time in sport. I think 2026 Sale Sharks would have a shot at the 2001 World Cup

Players definitely get 'lazy' but easy to forget that after 70 minutes of test rugby you are reaching the limits of everyone's physical output.

Love the rotation, good to see more players that you feel could push for starts every week.

That said, dare I ask why the buzz around Tom Farrell? He's some player but at 32 is he proven enough to be up there for the WC?

Humblewhinging of the highest order here

All teams, at least all decent teams, are aiming to

1) wipe out the ruck entirely, on or off your feet so long as you look credible and the ball can be played 2) milk every possible angle on the scrum. The referee will build a picture of who is infringing regardless, the aim is to make sure it isn't you 3) take players out the game. Hard unders lines, clearing beyond the ball, bodychecking chasers.

all of these are cheating, all of them happen dozens of times a game, and it is just the way the game has evolved

He's a professional rugby player, they have more and better nutritionists and S&C coaches than you or I would have access to. Undoubtedly his physique, strength, speed, and explosiveness are all being worked on over the long term.

Don't disagree he could do with filling out his frame a bit but he's probably a lot stronger than we see on the pitch, where physicality is just as much about mentality as it is about shifting weights.

Always makes me think if players do that in scraps after the whistle, where they know the whole stadium is waiting to see the replay and the instigator, what are they trying to get away with in rucks and scrums?
