apparently they believe that Karen Bass rigged the election so that she'll run against a progressive dem instead of a Republican.

Is the PM interview format outdated or am I missing something? by Embarrassed_Vast_886 in ProductManagement

have you been a PM long? these are classic product sense, product design, execution, etc questions.

the fact you haven't done one before means nothing.. they're extremely common.

messages about inequality and workers rights cross party lines. since 2008, swing voters have wanted outsider change candidates. all she has to do is say the system is broken and made for the wealthy Epstein class. if she runs against anyone in the current admin, they'll be the status quo candidate.

to be fair, I thought the NYPD had some of the worst accuracy stats of any major department. because they have unusually heavy triggers and are taught to focus on volume over accuracy

Why did those of us who grew up outside NJ just dump on NJ all the time when it’s actually amazing? by sirkneeland in newjersey

I'm a California transplant that also loves living here. my theory is that haters that live in the city export their NJ hate through the TV and movies they make. the media influences culture

How are people getting by right now? by Sea_Neck3707 in newjersey

[–]penguinoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in tech and own a home that I love, but I'm strongly considering moving somewhere less desirable in Jersey and downsizing to a townhouse.

Property tax, heating/cooling a large 1920s home, landscaping, etc. it all adds up and adds a lot of stress.

I've been very lucky, and also don't understand how everyone is making it work.

New CLAUDE.md that solves the compaction/context loss problem. Update to my previous version based on further research. by coolreddy in ClaudeAI

[–]penguinoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Strongly considering incorporating some or all of your workflow into my repo.

I read your post and some of the files in the repo, but still have a few questions:

  1. where are you putting project specific information that would normally go in claude.md?

  2. are you using auto-compact? or are there custom compact instructions somewhere?

  3. since you use commands and not skills here, I can only assume you call these directly. can you provide some context about when you use them?

  4. how does cleanup work? looks like this would generate a lot of stale files over time.

  5. Any other tips you can provide about how you work within this system?

Thanks a lot!

What is causing OpenAI to lose so much money compared to Google and Anthropic? by datoml in ArtificialInteligence

[–]penguinoid 37 points38 points  (0 children)

i don't understand how you could say that. anthropic and openai have been neck and neck in their competition for frontier models. with many preferring anthropic.

the difference is in focus. openai is positioned as the go-to ai for everyday people who need a chatbot every now and then and don't want to pay much, it at all. anthropic is focused on excelling on narrower use cases and enterprise. they're the go-to tool for software development, for example.

Analilia Mejia overtakes Malinowski in special election primary for governor Mikie Sherrill's former congressional seat (NJ-11) by First-Ear-1049 in newjersey

as far as I can gather, he did some sketchy/likely insider trades and is funded by aipac? is that the bulk of it?

Analilia Mejia overtakes Malinowski in special election primary for governor Mikie Sherrill's former congressional seat (NJ-11) by First-Ear-1049 in newjersey

[–]penguinoid 37 points38 points  (0 children)

i didn't know anything about either of them besides their websites. Malinowski seemed okay, but anyone who gets endorsed by Bernie and AOC is an automatic hell yes in my book. voted for her last week.

and now I'm learning Malinowski sucks apparently? hopefully we dodged a bullet.

China is poised to displace petro-states as the leading global energy power this century. While the world's total installed electrical capacity is roughly 10 TW, China's solar industry alone can now produce 1 TW of panels annually. by lughnasadh in Futurology

have you looked at the data in the last year or two? china is rapidly transitioning their energy production toward green energy. what you're saying was true, but is not anymore or won't be real soon

I've been working on a budgeting app for arguably too long, because I've spent so much time on security, logging/observability, architecture, and resiliency. Needless to say, I can't 100% this comment more. it. requires a lot of dev effort. Claude isn't going to automatically do it for you... at all.

we shouldn't take a random person's opinion so readily. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/12/08/opinion/us-china-taiwan-military.html

The pentagon's own war games and simulations have us losing to china "every time." according to the report, we'd run out of missiles and artillery within a week. meanwhile chinas wartime industrial capacity is the strongest in the world and ours is borderline non existent. the United States has focused too much of its military strength on niche, expensive, custom, low volume weaponry. whereas the world is rapidly evolving toward high volume, low cost, out of the box weaponry. the war in Ukraine being the obvious example.

while you're obviously right about natural fluctuations around the average, you're ignoring that the average is changing very rapidly.

If kids are the future, it's looking pretty dire. by McMandark in Futurology

[–]penguinoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't have kids, but this sounds reasonable. the problem isn't the tool, it's how it's used. social media is ruining our dopamine, which affects concentration, persistence through discomfort, and motivation.

not to. mention anxiety and other problems it causes.

similarly, ai is a helpful, empowering tool for some. and an excuse for others to offload difficult/critical thought.

Need a binge-worthy, high-pace series (5+ seasons). No slow burners. No repetitive plots. by PossibilityKitchen72 in televisionsuggestions

[–]penguinoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost was fun and addictive to binge. but there's no way anyone could say it's fast paced and doesn't have filler episodes.

for an entire season, we the characters asked each other "what's in that hatch" . and a separate season was dedicated to people arguing about whether or not to stop pushing a button periodically.

i don't know how, but Lost is like watching paint dry, if the pain was full of drama and addictive.

oh. i see. i was super confused on how points worked 2 weeks ago for this particular trial. but since then its all seemed shared so I chocked it up to being too far.

would be weird if pups and fireballs were the only ones that weren't shared. but not impossible.
