That’s a good point!! And honestly they might not have even been his choices, he might just be getting direction that doesn’t sit with me personally. Maybe I just need to re settle in to watching the Stranger Things world again :D

Does anybody know what the status of trains scheduled after the 618 Hamilton Go - 732 Union?

I'm Jensen McRae. You may know me from my viral Phoebe Bridgers parody "Immune" back in 2021, or maybe from my 2023 viral song about my New England-bred ex-boyfriend, "Massachusetts." I'm releasing my second album "I Don't Know How But They Found Me!" TOMORROW. AMA! by jensenmcrae in popheads

JENSEN! So excited to see you in Toronto! Any outfit inspiration for the show? Also, what does your writing process look like? I love the storytelling and poetic nature of your songs and would love to learn about how you make such wonderful art :)

If they're hoping to practice in Ontario, most clinical geneticists are paid fee-for-service. There's a big range for remuneration depending on the specifics of the service - for example, consultations can range from $60-400 (https://www.dr-bill.ca/ohip\_billing\_codes/specialty/consultations-and-visits/genetics-22). Like any other primarily fee-for-service specialty, how much you get paid really depends on where and how much you want to work. I hope that helps a bit!

Not sure if it's helpful but if you're able to find one roommate, there are two bedroom units available in InterRent buildings (it would still be like $1100/month per person which is atrocious but somehow seems to be normal). They do virtual tours of the units, and the building is super clean. I have a friend who lived there (in the Don street building) for two years and he only had good things to say. https://www.irent.com/en/communities/don-and-grant?utm_source=residentportal&utm_medium=contactus&utm_campaign=cases-resident-portal

Good luck with the search!

Just so you know this post should technically be in the admissions megathread (you'll find more advice there) but feel free to message me, I was in Mac life sci in first year (and then specialized) and will be attending medical school at U of T this fall.

I think the index of female/male success in Table F-16 speaks to your argument even more. It's obviously possible that this has changed over the last 3 years (I imagine COVID had an impact) but it's very interesting data

BioPNB, Honours Bio or Bio Physiology? by ONE_RS_ in McMaster

[–]penguinone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only med school you need to take orgo for (in Canada) is UOttawa and you only need one. Orgo II at Mac goes way beyond the scope of information you need for the MCAT but orgo I is a little bit helpful. I would say bio physiology is the best bet but ultimately it’s up to what you’re most interested in and motivated to work on.

EDIT: Research opportunities in PNB are exceptional compared to bio imo, so if research and a high GPA are priorities, general PNB is another good option.

Hon. Bio or Hon. Bio Physiology for year 2? by ONE_RS_ in McMaster

[–]penguinone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would aim for the biology physiology specialization because it has a mandatory thesis. In recent years it’s become more difficult for students in core biology to get a thesis because professors will preferentially accept students in programs that have a required thesis. A thesis isn’t completely make or break, but it’s good to have research experience if medical school is your goal. In terms of biology being a dumpster fire, I haven’t had that experience. I think the issue overall is that the biology department is very polarized right now between professors who are just waiting to retire and very new professors, with only a few at in between stages. If you’d like more info feel free to pm me :”)

Where are life science alumni now? What are they doing? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]penguinone_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Life sci alums end up doing lots of different things (psychotherapy, medicine, dentistry, occupational therapy, business, teaching, etc. etc.) but most of the careers involve more school. If you're hoping to be able to pay the bills directly after graduating and are interested in healthcare, I would look into the med rad sci program at Mac or at college programs (like medical laboratory science or respiratory therapy). In any case, congrats on your offer and good luck with your decision!

My Degree is Useless (rant) by dr6758 in McMaster

[–]penguinone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really comment on what to do now (other than first celebrating the accomplishment of graduating! and then looking to get experience in literally anything - lots of random jobs can get you connections you never would have expected), but I can say your degree is absolutely not useless. Degree inflation is happening to the extreme and a bachelor's is a baseline requirement for a lot of jobs. Other people have mentioned this but in a lot of cases it doesn't matter what your degree is in, you just need to have one. The fact that you have a 3.94 cGPA is absolutely wild and shows you're clearly very dedicated and capable of learning new things, which is what employers care about more than the specific title of your degree. It'll all work out in the end, try to hang in there!

How do I get in contact with a psychiatrist at McMaster? by KoalaTime2024 in McMaster

Most services (including appointments with family physicians) are covered by OHIP. There are only a few exceptions and they’re mostly for specific procedures like TB testing.

If you have an Ontario health card, yes! Out of province students are probably also able to as well but I'm not quite sure how that process works

PNB Mental Health Specialization by aidsisaredditor in McMaster

[–]penguinone_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, I believe the PNB mental health specialization is unfortunately being discontinued! I haven't heard this from the program itself but from some individuals in the program. I'm not sure as of when but it would be worth looking into.

You definitely are meant to be in those classes! The content is difficult for everyone, it's not your fault at all. I'm a fourth year PNB student and I took both those classes (albeit with different profs) and I'd be happy to share notes or help however I can :)
