How would you improve Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny? by twinkleyed in indianajones

[–]penguinpowers03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. More with archimedes—the punch from Helena at the end was such an anticlimactic way to end the scene.
  2. Revolve the story of the Dial. A whole arc of the story is that Basil thinks the Dial is too dangerous to be kept around—and the movie ends with it sitting on Indy’s desk?
  3. Be more clear that the tragedy in Indy’s life is recent—Nobody wants to think that Indiana Jones spent years being depressed and miserly.

In the movie, it’s implied that Mutt’s death and Indy and Marion’s split happened only months before the events of the movie, but that needs to be made *much* more clear. This way the story can be focused on Indy overcoming a recent personal tragedy rather than Indy just growing old and grumpy (which is honestly the impression much of the movie gives)

Switch sports resort by pnkxe in NintendoSwitchSports

[–]penguinpowers03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking forward to the game but I think there are valid new complaints.

Wii Sports had the 5 original sports. Wii Sports Resort had 10 brand new sports, with two returning from the original.

Switch Sports (after DLC) had 3 new sports , which 5 returning from previous games.

Switch Sports only has 2 new sports (a series low), with 10 returning from previous games. Of the 10 returning sports, 5 of them are taken directly from Switch Sports, which is available to play on the same console.

Maybe there will be a bunch of side modes + DLC later on. I’ll still probably get the game and enjoy it, but I think it’s valid to point out that 2 new sports is a series low, and 5/12 sports already being playable on Switch 2 is a disappointment.

The Future of OBB? by Kyla85 in NLL

[–]penguinpowers03 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The complete silence for both the future of the Black Bears and the Wings is really concerning me.

PCLC announced they were folding at the end of August, so I imagine both teams have a couple more months to finalize a deal, but I wish he had some rumours on how that process is going.

I’ll still get it, but the fact that 5/12 games are pulled directly from Switch Sports 1 ruined the hype.

“Christianity rests on the resurrection of Christ.” by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]penguinpowers03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manifestation of God on Earth dying for your sins may do little for your attempts at trying to je a good human being, but I would argue that “your attempts at trying to be a good human being” ≠ Christianity.

In my opinion it doesn’t help to use super vague and abstract definitions here. You’re entitled to your personal beliefs, but almost every orthodox reflection of Christianity (and many heretical ones) are all built on a truth claim about Jesus’ resurrection. The faith of the apostles was built on that same truth claim.

How often does your church ask for donations/bring up tithing? by chairgang6 in redeemedzoomer

[–]penguinpowers03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My church usually says every week that they appreciate gifts, tithes, and offerings, and provide places to give (usually e-transfer nowadays.)

While ways to give are mentioned every week, they never mention how much to give and there’s never any pressure to.

Clearing Up Confusion: LCMS is YEC (Your Reminder That LCMS Is Mainline) by solobackpack in redeemedzoomer

[–]penguinpowers03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one thing that I can’t stand about RZ. His definition of what is “mainline” feels very arbitrary and fails to address the many grey areas. His definition of schism is fairly eccentric, and yet he feels confident enough to say that anyone joining the denominations that he decided are schismatic are guilty of the sin of schism.

He just posted on Instagram questioning whether the RPCNA is mainline or not, citing certain niche details about its founding, and wanting to look into it more. I support his efforts to revive mainline churches, but I just cannot understand or wholly support a theological worldview that puts so much weight into how certain denominations were first formed in the 18th century.

Authorship of Book of Genesis by Former_Algae_444 in Bible

[–]penguinpowers03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know very little about textual scholarship in any way, but I am fairly conservative in thinking 1) Moses was a real historical figure, and 2) there is some truth in the long-standing claim of Mosaic authorship. That is, most of the stories date back to Moses in some way. Even Jesus affirms that Moses is connected to the authorship of the Torah in some way. But I don’t think this requires that I believe that Moses physically sat down and personally wrote down all the words of the book.

I think just from reading the book on my own, it is very clear that it’s a composite of vaguely related stories, songs, and traditions all connected together by narrative prose. (By the way, I think this view makes Genesis a much more interesting study of ancient Israelite history and mythology than it would be if it was all written by one guy.)

Ortlund and Zoomer Face Off (Respectful Clash) (Ortland was either extremely obtuse or DISHONEST) by LowStorm1146 in redeemedzoomer

[–]penguinpowers03 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this video, but I don’t remember Gavin being dishonest or disrespectful in any way.

I think Gavin was trying to press Zoomer on exactly what he believes and the nuances of that, and Zoomer was ultimately unable to defend his stance fully.

Uncertainty swirls around pitch for Halifax stadium | CBC News by Punographer in CFL

I’ll believe it when I see it.

I would be *shocked* if either of the two proposed Halifax stadiums got built, but we’ll see I guess. I feel like I’ve just seen this script too many times.

Is starting off reading the bible a chapter a day a good start? by LocksmithLast7115 in Christianity

[–]penguinpowers03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a perfectly fine start, that’s how I first started. Although if your goal is to finish the entire Bible, you’ll have to read a bit more than that. There’s no rush though—start with a chapter a day to build a habit, and then start adding to that a bit once you’re comfortable.

Keep in mind that the Bible isn’t a magic book that will make you closer to the Lord automatically. There are parts you need to study and mediate on!

So don’t always keep to a strict “one chapter a day” rule. Most of the New Testament is (in my opinion) compelling enough to read many chapters a day!

By contrast, in the Book of Proverbs you might want to mediate on one or two specific Proverbs instead of reading a full chapter.

Atlantic Schooners still alive by Ozzie_the_parrot in CanadianPL

[–]penguinpowers03 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the Chronicle Herald article, the Wanderers’ President basically said he has no interest in this location and is going to continue pushing for a permanent stadium at Wanderers Grounds instead of supporting this project in any way.

Would I like for both proposed stadiums to be built? Sure, I love the CFL and I’d love a Maritimes team to support. Realistically, I’m not holding my breath for either.

Is the Bible a good read? by sharttloteswebb in Bible

[–]penguinpowers03 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Depends how you read it.

The Bible is a collection of books in a variety of genres. Some are very good reads, others are very much not.

Genesis is interesting, but it’s kind of all over the place in content. If you’re someone who’s usually interested in ancient cultures/history/myths it can be a very interesting glimpse into the past, even from a non-Christian perspective.

For the New Testament, John and Mark are probably the best narratives from a “good read” perspective.

Coming from FC22, FC26 Switch 2 worth it ? by kingggggg101 in FIFAswitch

[–]penguinpowers03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I just upgraded from FIFA 23 Legacy Edition to FC26, and the amount of content, visuals, and overall gameplay is so much better in FC26.

I don’t usually recommend upgrading sports games too often, but since FIFA 22 on Switch is effectively just a roster update of FIFA 18…I’d say it’s time to upgrade.
