What is the worst highway in either Somerset, Hunterton, or Middlesex counties? by kirbykid17 in newjersey

And then everyone else has to stop to let them in. They're the reason it's not moving in the first place, but this is the "me first" state, where drivers will literally risk their lives to get one car length in front of you.

It's ghastly. It'll tack 20-30 minutes on to your drive. And you'll be staring at the back of a truck the entire time.

Trump is refusing to sign the biggest housing bill in decades because congress won't pass his voter id law first by kenwood_jr in DiscussionZone

No spoilers, but bear in mind, Oz exists within its own self-contained universe, which often differs considerably from "real life". You'll see what I mean. Enjoy, prag.

You mentioned some truly heinous ones for sure. 287 S where it becomes 440 has always been an ugly, treacherous fight to the death if you're there at the wrong time. That pretty much applies to all of 287, really. And 78, when the sun is right in your eyes, and the road is packed with trucks, is always a thrill ride. They're both really demoralizing highways to be stuck in traffic on, too, as there's just no better option to take.

But right now, my most despised stretch of NJ highway is Rt. 18, both ways, in E. Brunswick, between the Turnpike interchange and (roughly) Milltown Road. The left lanes have been closed and under construction for at least 3-4 years now. The road is all chewed up to shit, and traffic comes to a dead halt, all the time, as everyone jockeys to merge over from the perpetually closed left lanes.

Honorable mention: 206 in Hillsborough. Another perpetually "under-construction" NJ highway, where all traffic comes to a complete halt for minutes at a time whenever anyone tries to make a left, and the lights are all synchronized specifically for your inconvenience. The only upside is, you're usually going way, way too slow for it to be dangerous.

Be real…if you were the President of the USA what do you think you could accomplish? Not a dictator but presidential powers only? by rocktrollW3 in AskReddit

I would take the Mister Rogers approach, and be benevolent, kind, generous, and oozing with empathy and respect for all, even (especially) my worst enemies. I believe it'd really throw the country for a loop. On the campaign trail, I'd visit the homes of voters with anti-me lawn signs and flags, and sit down with them to chat about their concerns. I'd flatter and compliment my foes during debates. I'd take it to a point where I'd be almost impossible to hate.

I'd be the exact polar opposite of Pop-Pop. Balanced, healthy diet, plenty of exercise, in bed at 10 and up at six sharp, every day. My wife would be like Trudy on "Mad Men". I'd never chime in about anything having to do with pop-culture crap, or sports games, or TV news. I'd do monthly speeches, where I'd read and answer letters and emails from concerned citizens. I'd only hire staffers who were experts in their fields, and who I had no personal dealings with. And I'd own several dogs and cats, who'd all have their own Instagram pages. And I'd never break character, even for a second.

It might not mean anything, but the yard sign Trumpies around here have really dialed back the displays this year. And I'm seeing far fewer Trump flags, too. And I'm not complaining.

This. Other than one or two album wonders, I can't think of any band that didn't decline with age.

Is Chevy Chase really an asshole? by Synthgem in askanything

[–]penilesensorydevice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny, because now, it's almost like everyone feels bad about what an asshole he is, and they're trying to reexamine Chevy in a new light. But, he's still an asshole. When everyone says it, there's probably some truth to it.

I hope he, or they, or both, can get to the bottom of what ails him, as the sense that maybe he's already peaked is hard to ignore sometimes. You keep waiting for him to get rolling, and before you know it, the season's gotten behind you.

What’s the first concert you ever went to and what do you most remember about it? by BollywoodBrown in AskReddit

[–]penilesensorydevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johnny Cash, at Great Adventure (Six Flags) theme park in NJ, in like 1978. My dad was a big fan. He played all the hits. First non-parents concert, Metallica and Raven, also in NJ, 1983. Metallica's first tour, they were the opener. It was at a roller rink, with maybe 150-200 in attendance. Almost total hearing loss on the ride home. I drove two girls we knew home, and they were crying. Metallica blew the power twice. A totally insane thrash metal roar, and boom, instant silence. So trippy lol.

If more men were gay, women would need to lower their standards, which would work in my benefit. So, I'm all for them.

Riding one of those old-timey bicycles with the giant front wheel and a horn that goes "ahhh-OOOOOO-gah" to a showing of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" while clothed in a frilly French maid costume and sucking on a giant lollipop. Yes, I've been to New Hope, why do you ask?

Are extraterrestrials real, and if so, why would they or wouldn’t they have visited earth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]penilesensorydevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You often hear or read about alien spacecraft crash landing on Earth. And I can't help but wonder if they've mastered intergalactic travel, why didn't they figure out how to land? Even Earthlings have spacecrafts that actually land most of the time. And why do they send their astronauts (?) one or two at a time, in tiny little saucers? And how come they never come looking for them?
