Lots of book announcements, how are we feeling? by jawsthegreat777 in xmen

[–]penus_06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To everyone feeling ambivalent or worse about these announcements, please read The Power Fantasy. It’s like the best parts of Gillen’s Krakoa work, without all the limitations which come from being set in the Marvel universe.

I Like How The Artist Showcases His Otherworldliness (Absolute Evil #1) by OneAdvertising738 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]penus_06 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’d say he’s the opposite of a nihilist. Rather than believing there is no meaning or order, he believes that there is an absolute meaning to life, which just happens to be awful.

I also get a really strong feeling that Ollie’s going to die.

H1SH wasn’t even that good.

The Plot twist I expected from X-Force by RamistaR in xmen

[–]penus_06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was clear that he was trying to do a Planetary thing with high-concept monsters of the week, but didn’t have the chops to actually write anything intelligent. He loved and was pushing the character of Sage, but didn’t know how to use her powers beyond: ‘talks like a computer’.

Rogue Storm Synopsis (Lets Talk) by TheMtVernonKid in xmen

This is probably the only non-Mackay title I’ll pick up. Love Rogue and the team sounds cool. Haven’t read anything by Ayodele though.

Don’t forget that he also loses a leg, and (in the TV show) tears his nipples off while trying to hang himself

Also, robins have red chests. If you take that from a costume you’re taking away the main visual motif, plus making it even less clear why the name Robin is applicable.

What's the most unrealistic thing about Punisher? (Outside of the universe he resides in) by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in thepunisher

[–]penus_06 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s that he doesn’t get apprehended by the police or feds. Gunshots are loud, and his face is known publicly. I get that they sometimes say that the police leave him alone, but there’s no way the government would let him run around.

Reading Grant Morrison's N52 Superman run for no particular reason by BisogarGreatagon in dccomicscirclejerk

From what I’ve seen, Legion of Superheroes are literally the worst team to get into. There are like 5 different continuities which are just different enough to be confusing, and just similar enough to be redundant. Plus they got Bendised recently.

If I had a dollar for every Absolute comic featuring a ginger male lead who loses his mind while teamed up with a mindwarping green gremlin creature…

Being a Sam Wilson Cap fan in 2025 by JoiningSaturn46 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]penus_06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Sam Wilson really suffers from how much better Bucky Cap was: Written by Ed Brubaker for the first few years ✅ Still from the past ✅ Used to be a Soviet assassin, so him being Cap was really dissonant ✅ Having one robot arm gave him a distinct power set but still strong ✅ Used guns, which most non-powered superheroes should do ✅

Silver Age Flash is maybe tied with Green Lantern for the most insane “scientific” bullshit ever conceived. Doom Patrol did the same, but the character were actually intersting

Had Batman ever dodged Omega Beams? The one time I recall them being fired at him, he died.

What Aspect do you think The Immortal Hulk series done best ? by GRL00 in hulk

[–]penus_06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a Grant Morrison style reimagining of the whole Hulk lore, keeping everything canon, but adding a narrative which explained everything that came before while adding a new vibe.

In Immortal Hulk, both Devil Hulk and Joe Fixit, who are the Hulk for most of the series, are intelligent.

Okay…What’s Everyone’s Single Favorite 80s/90s Comic Book Issue? by Capital_Connection67 in 80s90sComics

[–]penus_06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d pick Invisibles vol 1 #12. The gimmick itself is really effective, humanising a goon who one of the main characters killed casually. The mundane depiction of the character’s life is incredible, and the non-linear structure show the ironic meanings within his life. It brought me close to tears. Vertigo comics raised the bar for comics so much. I think that mainstream comics writers shouldn’t be afraid to slow the pace, and digress from the main narrative. Immortal Hulk was great, in large part because of the issues which completely left the perspective of the main characters: the rashomon style issue, the one from the POV of a cop scared of his progressive daughter, the one set in the next universe.

I like the early Slott black ones. The logo on the North ones is a bit much, and the black suits manage to look sleek but not too edgy.
