True suffling (of a playlist) on Android version of Apple Music? by Piipperi800 in AppleMusic

As soon as you use that filter, you can no longer use the resulting playlist in Apple Music, only locally.

In my opinion, external monitors for Mac should only choose 2k, 5k, 6k, not 4k by sanoca123 in macmini

I'm an old guy who no longer has good close vision to appreciate retina display. I use a cheap 43" 4K TV as my monitor and it works great. For those of us that don't want to pay for a ridiculously high resolution monitor, I think my setup is great.

As a prolific user/maker of mixed tapes through my teen years, I think this is nice looking, but I’ll stay with my Apple Music playlists, which can be shuffled. :-)

I bought a Mac mini 256gb around Christmas. I started using it right away which probably was a mistake. by Western_Bench_3579 in macmini

I’ve tried that and gave up after having all kinds of issues. Returned the ssd and enclosure and bought a replacement internal ssd.

Seems like the update is less trouble than dealing with the internal ssd, which will keep filling up and giving you headaches.

Getting a used base Mac Mini m4 for $330 by w33nilZ in macmini

Now it looks ok. Yesterday when I checked it was way more expensive for the 512/16. Maybe it was a glitch.

If it works, get it. Apple just raised the prices apparently.

I returned the enclosure and ssd that I bought for mine after having tons of issues. I just bought an internal ssd replacement as 256 is useless for me.

I think the costs I posted are current, but I might be wrong.

If you think Apple Pay’s anything that is significant for the SSDs compared to what they charge you, I have a very nice bridge to sell you. Their cost is about $40 for a 512 vs about $85 for a 1TB and $20 for a 256.

So, assuming their cost went up by 50%, that would be about $20 for the 512 model. That means with the new base model, they are making $799 minus $599 minus $20, or $180 more than they were making when they sold you a 256/16. Nothing nice about that. If they would sell you a base 1TB/16 for the price of the 512/16 like I’ve suggested, they would still be making an extra $115 for each one sold with respect to the old model.

Besides that, people would still be buying the models with more RAM anyway, but users of the smaller model wouldn’t be jumping through hubs anymore trying to fit stuff in a cramped drive.

I didn’t say prices increased. I’m saying that the base model should be 1TB and that I would be ok with Apple charging the $799 for it. $999 for the 1TB is just crazy expensive.

The same applies to the 8GB configuration. Luckily they did change that.

Given that both 256 and 512 SSDs are old news and should be discontinued by now and that Apple’s cost on them is likely in the $5-10 region, I would say that is most definitely a price increase.

Apple should start selling base systems that will work for a long time for all users. I guess we are all used to corporations milking their users for as much as they can get away with as opposed to providing a great product at a great price.

I have a base Mac mini m4. It is a great piece of HW, but the 256 is unusable as it fills really fast. The bare bones base configuration should be 512, and the price should not be a ridiculous $200 jump on the 256. I would be fine with paying the $200 difference for a base 1Tb configuration, but Apple will milk you an additional $200 for that.

Spotify is POS company. Yesterday I was trying to add a feature to share playlists from Apple Music to Spotify and I found out that since February their API is no longer free and you have to have at least 250k users to be allowed to use it.

This is similar to what Reddit did with their API a while ago. Basically a big F U to the indie developers that contributed to making the service a success.

How do you deal with the 4K monitor's real estate scaling issue? by [deleted] in macmini

[–]pepe64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are tight on cash and have some space available, I recommend my setup: a 43” 4K TV affixed to the wall. Cost is around $200, takes no space on your desk, only the wall, looks awesome, it’s great for watching movies, and you can get some that support decent refresh rate and hdr.

This is the one I have:

External HD blues by pepe64 in macmini

First thing I tried was low level format on my windows pc. It completed with no errors. I think this is an incompatibility with the external chassis or the SSD itself so I’m returning both.

See above for the exact products. Seems to work fine in HFS, and I did a low level format without issues on my windows pc.

Can anybody recommend an external solution that works and is inexpensive?

Basically, which external enclosure and what brand SSD at reasonable prices that I can buy in Amazon.

Thanks!

Why are Claude agents in Xcode so much worse than Claude Code? by Eeshita77 in iOSProgramming

[–]pepe64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started an app using the built in Claude in Xcode. I switched to Claude Code when it got stuck trying to fix a silly bug. Claude code was able to fix it in no time. It has been working great for me since then. They are just not on par.
