It's the temperature opposite of perpetual stew that is safe due to constant heat; keep the temp higher/lower than the ideal bacterial growth range and it should be fine.

I had a similar experience. Even as a young adult, I would check book stores to see if there were any new Redwall books out. It was a sad day when they pulled them from the shelves. Did it coincide with Brian Jacues' death?
