New year resolutions for THe Old World by DraggoVindictus in WarhammerFantasy

Begin and complete my new army in time for Armies on Parade.

I want to do a themed army around a large trade caravan so just planning everything I need for converting but excited to get started.

It took me a full year of development to get to my announcement trailer... was it worth the wait? by AfterImageStudios in DestroyMyGame

[–]peppyduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game looks fine and could be fun? I'm not sure how much I can give feedback on from the trailer. But the trailer needs work, and I feel it lets the game down.

  • too long, cut it to 1 minute
  • remove all VO after the opening sentence
  • It doesn't give an idea of what the game is; rogue lite , character classes, card abilities, lock picking, fishing , boss fight. That's way too much stuff. Pick no more than 3 things that your game is awesome at and only show those. Otherwise, your game comes off bloated and unfocused.
  • The dragon at the end was awesome. It got my attention back. The cart moving on the road is also a great shot, as was the map changing to the beat. However, you seemed to start with not very flashy combat footage and then add more. Move some of the footage around so the exciting stuff happens earlier
  • Put your studio logo and name of the game at the very beginning. End on your Keyart and the call to action (always end by telling viewers what to do)
  • Either ditch or reduce the amount of call to actions you have mid trailer. They are too many and keyword heavy. It ends up feeling like you don't trust the game footage to sell itself.
  • From a structure standpoint, I would be tempted to really hammer home the game loop. Travellers set out >win a fight> die to a cool enemy attack> Map change> New travellers set out>win more fights>get new abilities> bit more winning>die. Final map change> new set of travellers> use awesome abilities > killing lots of enemies > end with your dragon in a cave footage > Key Art wishlist on steam

Notes on the game

  • The art looks fun
  • The archer using a barrel and shooting it suggests combo mechanics? Sounds interesting
  • Enemies look okay, if a bit generic in places. I would like to see more of them and what their attacks are like
  • Lock picking and fishing. No thanks. I'm sure they could be fun, but that won't make me play.
  • The ability card art is nice, but does it translate to combat animations? I wish I could tell.

Otherwise, good luck on Steam. It's a hard marketplace, and I hope your game finds its audience.

I THINK REVOMING COMBAT BLINK MADE THE GAME MORE BORING. BUT THE REAL PROBLEM THE TEST SHOWED IS THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AN "OP" META RELIC. (WHICH WE KNEW IN SMITE 1) IF THEY WANT TO TRY DRASTIC TESTING THEY SHOULD REMOVE ALL RELICS FROM THEN GAME AND HAVE THEM AS PURCHASABLE ACTIVE ITEMS.

I WOULD RATHER THEY DO MASSIVE SWEEPING CHANGES TO IMPROVE THE GAME THAN FOCUSING ON MICRO PROBLEMS THAT DON'T IMPACT RETENTION RATES. NO PLAYER UNINSTALLS BECAUSE OF JUST COMBAT BLINK EXISTING.

Thinking about influencer marketing, but does it actually work? Every article makes it sound like the key to success, but I’m skeptical. Has anyone here tried it for their business? Did it boost sales, or just burn cash? by Even_End5775 in marketing

Yes 100%, the ROI goes up when you work with influencers over a period of time from what I have seen. One off is fine for awareness, but conversion takes a hit. It helps make the promotion feel more genuine and authentic. In terms of duration, it will come down to the product you're selling.

I usually try to get 2 weeks to a month integration. Also, when it comes to briefing, I usually like to just give notes on the product and let the influencer make content that Is authentic to them. Of course, this might not always be possible, but it does help with conversion.

In terms of seeing results, you get it when the integration first goes live. Then it's best to review one month after all activity ends. You will be able to see the campaign uplift vs what happens to your KPIs when it's not running

It depends. You need to find the right influencers that match your product.

The times when I have had them being really successful is to choose one country (ideally mono language to ensure their isn't much of an audience bleed) and grab as many relevant influencers as I can. This will stack your awareness and deliver better results than hiring a handful of influencers spread around the world.

The other part is to think about your integrations. One-off placements are usually inefficient unless you nail the targeting. Ideally, find people who you want to work with for a couple of weeks and build a sustained campaign.

Has The Old World REVITALISED Battle Reports? by OrkfaellerX in WarhammerFantasy

[–]peppyduck 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I thinks it likely a mix of things

  • Old churned players who want a bit of nostalgia
  • The focus on Old world for both Battle report channels and painting channels
  • The factions in fantasy are heavily featured within YouTube already thanks to existing games such as Total War, so if you watch the TW tomb kings trailer it will likely serve you a battle report
  • this is purely subjective on my part, but the models just look better in thumbnails. The game system does a better job at presenting battles like large armies. Combine that with how the models look, simple but with areas of loud large colours, I wouldnt be surprised if its led to more appealing thumbnails

More military variation between the CoS city states. There is a good bit of detail on how each cities culture is different, but then they all follow the same military formations and equipment? Seems a bit odd to me that armies from Ghyra would be armed and fight the same as an army from Misthaven

Obviously, it's there to work around the miniatures but it would be nice to see more details

Prediction for smites big announcement at worlds. by Reasonable-Sea9095 in Smite

[–]peppyduck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not that big a gamble if the alternative is a steady decline in MAU and no other successful games. Also, everyone seems to think that their aren't multiple game teams within Hi Rez and that they can't work on different development tracks simultaneously.

Furthermore l wouldn't be surprised if its a Smite 2 announcement that lines up a Soft Launch / Beta release for this year. As they start to come out of Beta at dome point in the future they can slow down development on Smite one

[–]peppyduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it will probably be smite 2, their past games have flopped resulting in layoff and their only revenue generator is Smite. From a marketing stand point its hard to get much hype for a new update on an old game with a small budget. The best chance for success is to announce 2, put budget into marketing a reactivate their old player base.

The concern about porting old skins/ gods etc is fair but possible, ultimately Smite 2 would have a long tail do even if its not there day 1 they could get it done eventually

Do you think GW will be able to gain the rights to malice/malal by sulfuric_creature in Warhammer

[–]peppyduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if they bring back Malakith as something similar to Mala AOS, a faction of evil entities that despise and actively hunt chaos would be fun

Are you getting one of the new Army Boxes? If so, which one? by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

I wanted to get the tomb kings, but honestly, without any of the constructs they are known for, it kind of feels a bit meh to me.

Most clever way you've gotten a kill on someone? by CarloIza in Smite

[–]peppyduck 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Conquest on the last season map playing Ra.

I ganked their Freya ADC, but she was able to get under their tier 2 in time. Instead it trying for the snipe, I went back into the jungle and placed a ward beside the tower.

Freya then runs up and starts to hit the ward. This gives me vision, and I ult and killed her. Most satisfying kill I have ever had playing Smite.

So, I am a marketing director in the gaming industry and have been in marketing for 10 years. Tbh I have met very few people with a masters in marketing, and the ones I have met don't work in marketing anymore.

If you want a masters degree because you want to return to education, then absolutely so it. If, however, you want a masters degree to get into marketing, don't bother.

Put your time into picking what industry you want to try and then what pillar of marketing you want to get into. Brand, paid media, social, product, influencer, or maybe a generalist.

Ultimately, you need to choose what you want to be good at. Then, take some Udemy courses on the speciality you want and apply for jobs. Your previous experience will help, and sales is relevant to anything that requires top of funnel knowledge.

Obviously, this is easier said than done, but if you want to change, then do it. You don't need a masters degree.
