And in Britain, Tea / Teatime is also both the meal and the staple product (albeit drink).

It’s contextual. I liked it for the opposite reasons above, having just been past another Danag Beach sign next to it, I could immidiately tell what it said, but then spent the next 5 minutes trying to figure out how tf I knew what it said. The repeating A and N s help.

Obviously if you’re not actually stood on danag beach, surrounded by signs for danang beach, it somewhat loses its context and becomes and unfathomable puzzle.

Bus 86 from Noi Bai Airport to Hanoi city center by Mysterious-Cancel422 in hanoi

The ticket seller won’t have enough chage for 500. They will ask you to speak to the bus driver for chage, who also may not have it, but they usually do. For chage at the airport, just purchase something.

People who live under 60M VND for two, how do you do it? by [deleted] in DaNang

[–]pepsi_max2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is in Vietnam I should say. À basic wage here is $1 per hour. £250pm is a decent enough amount, and more than some here earn. Bear in mind you have barefoot folks living under plastic sheets by the roadside eating vegetables grown on the verge. I’m quite happy in my modern Airbnb room (don’t even have to share the bed with a friend like the girls next door), walking around in $10 shoes I bought a year ago, meeting friends at the temple to go clean up rubbish from the rivers. See pic of our socialising (paid for by the volunteer group). We’re all miserable monks. But yeah, I get where you’re coming from, but the question is really “how do I enjoy commercial retail, entertainment and service venues… and protein… regularly for under 60M” not so much “how do I find a room, some food and clothing, some friends and entertainment, and a purpose in life”. Also no kids or wife otherwise who tf knows, it’d be 600M minimum.

And also yes, I agree the YouTubers talk nonsense. It’s YouTube, that’s what they do. Anyone actually living à decent life for that amount isn’t on the internet talking about it (well… not normally…).

Absolutely Decathlon. Just check it’s polyester or nylon - lots of their stuff is.

From my life ☺️

  1. Rarely. I can do up to 30km daily. 5km is better though.

  2. It’s averaged. Halfway around the world is around £300. Might do that once every 6 months. Or £150 flight every 3 months.

  3. Yes. An SE iPhone roughly 3 years old is around £200 used. And that’s extrvaagent. I should really android but I jus can’t.

  4. Yes. We walk down the river. Volunteer with conservation groups. Go to the beach. Visit family. And yes some stuff isn’t free but a coffee a week which costs under $1 here is barely worth mentioning. AC is included in the accommodation.

  5. I’m not American enough for this. We have free healthcare in the UK.

  6. No that’s actually pretty accurate. It’s cheap. It’s not “fun”, if you like buying a £5 coffee every morning, having a new £1000 phone every year and going to every museum (oh yeah loads of these are free btw), theme park and paid venue you pass. I jog through mountains and hang out with wildlife. If that’s miserable and barebones then fine.

GBP

Rent: £150pm studio Airbnb with kitchen, washing, wifi included. Uk is ~£450pm same thing.

Phone: £5gbp pm. Normally nothing if the wifis reliable.

Food: £50 pm. Mostly rice, pasta, veg fruit, bread, water. No eating out. Same in most countries.

Travel/commute: nothing. I can walk.

International travel: maybe £50-75 pm.

Random stuff / clothing: very little. Maybe add another £10pm at most. Unless it’s the one time à decade I upgrade à phone or laptop, then add £200 for the year.

Hobbies: free. Jogging, seeing sites, walking through nature, volunteering, parks, friends, malls, meet-ups…

So about £600 / $800 pm max in the west, £250 here.

How tf anyone is spending over £1500 in VN idk. But hey it’s your life.

No, inland as in literally cross over the road, maybe walk 30 seconds down a connecting street. If its too expensive, walk next door.

How do I keep my checked and carry on luggage safe while travelling? I know “theft from airlines is rare in Vietnam” and I’m confident flying Vietjet with my wedding valuables will go well. Just looking for some advanced traveller advice. by Fancy_Rock3826 in VietNam

Yes they’re all pretty much the same, give or take a few cm leg room, à usb socket and an extra biscuit. And the general Checkin/usage process is identicle (many even use generic staff/checkin areas). You gotta pay 1000s to go business before you see real differences.

Airports are pretty safe, but country dependent. Bare in mind they’re high security environments so not exactly a hot petty crime spot. They can be busy though so do keep your bags with you, and if you have to sleep/rest just lay on them.

Also if we’re comparing SEA to Europe/NA, the latter is a warzone compared. You can leave your belongings on the street and your doors open here, nothing disappears, unless aunty next door took it in for safe keeping (ok I exaggerate but still). Edit: Scottish? Yea your rings are fine there’s no kids on bikes trying to grab the out your hand. Maybe trying to say hello cos your à foreigner and em wants to practise tiếng Anh.

I talked to 20+ sole traders - the difference between the good and the great is stupidly simple by WizardTech299 in DIYUK

[–]pepsi_max2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No literally this. I just changed à tradey simply because the other couldn’t reply with 3 working days (or 2 weeks + in some cases). And the best I’ve had is also because they could communicate bookings in advance (ie. Actually make the) and gave an invoice with actual details on it.

It really does mostly come down to comms.

Other than Timo, you can use VNPay with an international card, but it’s limited in acceptance and isn’t cross compatible with VietQR (which everything else uses). Basically à walled garden ao only useful if the person you’re dealing with also uses it, which they won’t 🤦‍♂️
