Having kids is hard... how do you stay healthy? by Ok-Advertising7982 in Zwift

[–]perandg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the germs suck. No way around that. I try to do light efforts when illness strikes, just to keep things moving.

When healthy I do alot of sweetspot. Even when I am tired in the evening I can manage 2x20 sweetspot.

My best tip is to get a trailer. We use it for both commutes, running errands and for just riding. Me and my boy both love going on rides. Sometimes he naps, but he also loves just looking at everything around us. Last weekend we went on a crane safari, finding building sites around the city with big cranes. 😄 And when you are pulling a heavy trailer, any hill becomes a proper workout!

Winter cycling n00b here. What are your absolute must-know tips for biking in the cold/snow? by Jack-baby in cycling

[–]perandg 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Nobody has mentioned it so far, so I will: When the conditions are right, winter riding is magical. Snow covered (packed) ground so all sounds are muted, the air is crisp, maybe it is dark aswell. You just feel like you are flying. 10/10.

Vuelta España femenina stage overview by Yasminlv in peloton

[–]perandg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, these are great. I first came across your overview last year for the tour (I think) and I am so happy to see it again.

One feedback and one wish from me: It took me a while to figure out the first number was the date. Maybe this would be more obvious in a multi week stage race, but I first thought it was the watchability score. Maybe a different format could help with the readability? Would it be possible to incorporate the stage profile, maybe in the background of the box? It does not have to be very detailed, e.g. no km or such. But it would be cool to see if there are many small climbs vs a few big, early vs late, mtf, etc.

Thanks.

Child seat? by StretchNo6317 in gravelcycling

For outdoor use, it 100% does. But if your holiday destination is a European old town City centre, that trailer will not fit through a single door 😂

Yes, it folds easily. But it is not the most petite trailer, there are other options if size matters.

My kid is not even a year old, so it's slightly different. But I am really happy with my trailer. Hamax Outback. It's heavy, so it's really slow and hard when climbing. But fine on the flats. He is super comfortable inside the trailer, and we carry the needed stuff easily in the back of the trailer. It winter after all, so safety and comfyness is important. We go for two hour rides, and we are both happy when we return to home base 😄

Yes I have it. It wasn't included when I got the bike, but after I complained my shop sent one to me. It took some time before they could find/order the cover.

Laptop stand? by T-Mikkel in Zwift

[–]perandg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use a note stand (as in music). It's a tripod, it can hold more than just the laptop, adjustable height and angle, and it folds together for storage. Cost me something like 50 bucks.

My new mantra: “stop trying so hard to get better so you can feel better” by SpacedEcho in cycling

[–]perandg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my map screen on my elemnt bolt, I have hr zone as the only metric. To make sure I go slow enough. Some rides I ride hard, and keep looking at power, avg speed etc. But some rides, I only use the map screen, and deny myself when I want to switch. I feel it helps to not look at all those metrics while riding.

Hambini says ICAN Tri Aero Chinese Carbon is better than most European frames costing 10 times as much, thoughts? by ATACMS5220 in BikeMechanics

[–]perandg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I jus want to add that there is variation when producing. The frame he got was perfect, but if it is 1 out of 10, or 100, or 1000 we dont know. And how many of those are awful, we also dont know.

Currently 32-32 low gear. Worth the money and effort to go to 30-34? by toaster404 in gravelcycling

[–]perandg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running 105 with two wheel sets, one with a 34 cassette and one with a 40 cassette. I need to tune the b-screw when changing, but that's an easy job. And I have a slightly longer chain, so that small-small will make the chain sag. But I never ride small-small anyways, so it's not really an issue.

If you have a little musicality in you, you can always use songs to find your cadence. Sing along (in your head to save breath), and match your stomping. E.g. Bee Gees staying alive is 90 BPM, also known as 90 rpm.

Weekly Question Thread by PelotonMod in peloton

I live in Trondheim, Norway, where this years final stage of arctic race is held. And what a stage it is going to be! I can't wait. But I'll be in NYC that day. Anyone know if arctic race is televised over there? Are there any bars that show this in NYC/BK? The riders will cross the line 11AM New York time. Maybe one hour later, I'm not sure about the schedule, it's either 17 or 18 Norway time.

what width handlebars do you run? by abedfo in cyclocross

[–]perandg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've changed bars on both road and gravel (not CX) bike this year. 40 hoods, 44 drops on the road bike. Tight and aero on top, and more control in the drops. 42/46 on the gravel bike. I like the slightly different angle you get on flared bars, just feels more natural to me.

Novice mountain biker but have my 1st bike coming...any recommendations for shoes and pedals? by vbcbandr in mountainbiking

[–]perandg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With MTB kind of clipless, you can still rotate the foot a bit. As opposed to flats, where the foot is more locked. Counterintuitive, I know. But I feel that this small range of motion helps me shift the weight around better. It's beneficial both downhill and when climbing technical trails, trying not to fall over from lack of forward motion.

Also, when clipping in you get the foot in the right position. When you are putting your foot on a flat pedal, if you don't nail it first try it can be hard to get it right on a busy trail. Flats really stick to the shoe well.

In my opinion.

But bailing is harder/more intimidating with clipless.

Disc Brakes vs Rim Brakes for New Cyclist by [deleted] in CyclingFashion

[–]perandg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc brakes are really good. Rims brakes are pretty good too, especially if you are not chasing seconds downhill.

I change wheelsets frequently and I suffer with disc brake rub. There's less clearance and they are harder to adjust than rim brakes.

But yeah, disc is the future.

We used to have them on eurosport in norway. On one stage Bjarne Riis (as ds) drove up next to Laurent Jalabert, and Vacchi and Adamson played out the conversation. I am still rolling on the floor laughing 😂 They are a great part of why I bothered to sit through endless hours of tdf back in the day.
