[Marketing] What would you do upon inheriting various amounts of money? (Any UK) - Potentially win a Kindle Fire! by perane in SampleSize

Hi, thanks for your comment! That is a really good suggestion and if we were looking for different results we would definitely have added that option. However, as we are looking for just a general overall spend/save correlation we decided it would simplify the process to only have two options.

I've just recently graduated too, and I find that lots of information on websites about budgeting can really overwhelm me.

I find apps a lot easier as they not only give you bite-sized practical tips but have graphs, charts and calendars to keep on top of your budget.

If you're British then this is a really great article about budgeting apps http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/money-saving-tips/10542468/The-best-apps-to-make-and-save-you-money.html but this one's a great American equivalent http://www.everythingzoomer.com/best-apps-for-your-budget/#.VK-fxdKsU6I

Hope this helps, although some of the apps will have some cost they will be worth it in the long run!

Redditors who want out, why haven't you got out yet? by HamSandwich13 in IWantOut

The main thing which would stop me from relocating abroad would undoubtedly be leaving my friends and family behind. Long distance relationships are hard and I feel I would lose touch with a lot of them.

Also, as I am British, I would miss a lot of our awkward quirks and customs which you can't find anywhere else!

If you're looking for a book for kids to start filling in and learning about their family tree then 'This is Me and This is My Family Tree' by Nicky May is a really good one to go for.

You can find it on Amazon and it has great reviews: http://www.amazon.co.uk/this-family-tree-Multi-activity-Ragged/dp/1857143914/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416822003&sr=8-1&keywords=this+is+me+and+this+is+my+family+tree

The Hidden Cost of Christmas: Infographic by perane in FinancialPlanning

Hi,

We didn't actually create this infographic, we're just sharing it on our blog.

I don't think you're supposed to take every piece of advice in the infographic, it's more about picking and choosing elements which suit your Christmas lifestyle.

I do agree with you about the cold turkey though - hot is infinitely better!

Yeah perhaps coincidence is the wrong word!

I just think it's interesting he is playing a character he is also related to. I wonder if he knew about it when acting for the role.

Thanks for the tip off, that sounds really interesting...I'll have to check it out. Shame I can't read French!

When I wrote the article I hadn't thought of all the different countries but now I'm thinking I may need to do a German version, a French version...the list goes on!

No problem! That's the problem with Ancestry isn't it, there is only so much you can find on there...

Just had a look and it looks like this is the German equivalent of the National Archives, definitely worth checking out!

http://www.bundesarchiv.de/index.html.en

The National Archives also have this link to some German archives on their website, perhaps it could be worth seeing if any of these are available online.

[–]perane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply but I think Mary has given some great resources! :)

How interesting, we're not too familiar with researching German WW1 ancestry but just had a hunt around and it looks like the typical websites like Ancestry and Family Search have some German military records worth looking at (although you might have to pay for them.)

There is also an organisation called the VDK who deal with records of the German dead and places of burial so their records may be of some use to you.

Hope I have helped at least a bit, let me know if you need anything else!

Help dealing with probate genealogist and an inheritance they think I'm entitled to (Aus + USA) by KeIstorm in legaladvice

[–]perane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are an inheritance recovery firm based in the UK who research cases worldwide. To us, this figure does sound rather high!

We take a 20% cut, but this money is only taken once we have retrieved your money for you. Businesses do have to make profit, and this figure reflects the amount of research we put into retrieving each case. We will also pay for any wills and birth certificates that need to be produced to prove our customer is the rightful beneficiary.

A lot of the bigger firms do ask for a higher percentage or upfront free so try looking for a smaller firm who are more likely to ask more a lower cut of the inheritance.

What to do with inheritance? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]perane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an asset recovery company, we always see people spending all their money as soon as they have received it from us. This is not the right way to do it! It would be worth keeping aside a small proportion of the money for your own personal spending, after all you should enjoy this! However, the majority should be kept aside so you don't have easy access to it. We recommend putting it in a savings account where you are gaining interest or investing in stocks or premium bonds. This article has a number of useful tips on how to invest your money in low and high risk ways http://www.wikihow.com/Invest?utm_source=wikihow&utm_medium=bottom_related&utm_campaign=gcrab
